  • The real plus to the One Plus: no wait time to refill the steamer!
I admit I never take time to write any customer review (though consistently read them before making any significant online purchase). However, I thought that after a year of using the Dupray One Plus steamer, I gained enough experience to share reliable insights to help potential buyers in making an informed decision. The decisive and most important factor that made me select the Dupray One Plus over the other steamers on the market (including the other Dupray steamers) is that the One Plus can be refilled WHILE you’re using it — and that’s a big deal. My house has a basement with vinyl/laminate flooring, and three levels with hardwood floors. It’s a lot of surface to clean and there is no tank big enough to supply all the water I need to finish the job with one fill (and if there was, how in the world would I be able to carry the weight of such amount of water?)! The major issue with a steamer where water is poured directly into the boiler is that refill can’t happen until the built-in pressure within the boiler has decreased enough to safely open the valve without fear of being burnt. And that cooling process takes an average of two to five hours depending on the size of the boiler. Sure enough, if you have a small boiler the cooling time will be less but you will have to repeat that cooling/refill step several times before you can finish cleaning. Conversely, if you have a larger boiler, the cooling process will be longer though not as frequent. In the end, a job with an ordinary mop that would take a couple of hours to complete will take three to five times more with that type of steamer. But as we want to irradicate our nasty germs, bacteria and viruses, the traditional mop is not an option nowadays. And this is where I really got the value for my buck with the One Plus: with one tank, I can almost clean the entire first floor of my house before I need to refill, and when it happens, I simply open the cap of the tank, fill it with tap water, and carry on with my job until I need a break! Because the tank is separated from the boiler, there is no need to cool down the boiler in order to refill. And this is how I can clean four floors in a little over two hours (which is faster than with my old mop where it was taking me more than three and a half hours to do the job with the constant wringing, water changing and rinsing — and certainly not killing 99% of the bacteria and viruses lurking on the surface). The other notable advantages are: (a) the One Plus works with tap water only. Never use any filtered or distilled water as it will ruin the pump. I know that for a fact as I damaged my first One Plus because I zealously used the filtered water of my refrigerator like I do with my coffee machine, iron and humidifier. Using just tap water and nothing else, as confirmed by Dupray’s techs, is a real money-saver (and it helps making you feel better after spending hundreds of dollars for the machine); (b) it takes about eight minutes to build the pressure needed to begin cleaning but once it starts, it will continue to provide the steam you need to clean your floor. Although you cannot control the temperature, you can control the pressure. I don’t have to use a lot of pressure on my floor, thus extending the time before refilling is needed; (c) the superheated steam leaves no streak or water spatters on the floor and the stubborn stains dissolves quickly. However, never wash a dirty microfiber pad with other clothes or rags as it absorbs their lint reduces its capacity to leave no trace. Also, never use any laundry softener on microfiber as the softener is the primary culprit for streaks left on the floor or windows; (d) the steamer comes with multiple plastic accessories that are sturdy yet light-weight, allowing you to steam surfaces other than floors (I love the lancet to clean the grout and the frames of my windows, and to power wash away any calcification or rust deposit). The long hose has a trigger that slides to lock the steam dispenser latch. Very useful when you want to safely change the brushes or the lancet, as you don’t have to shut the steamer off (and thus affect the time to generate again the production of high-pressured steam); (e) the boiler, in stainless steel, doesn’t require any harsh chemical for its routine descaling: only a mix of water and vinegar left in the boiler for 24 hours (another money saver); (f) the machine is made in Italy (NOT in China) and is covered by a 3-year limited warranty (excluding hoses and accessories), but it has a lifetime warranty on the boiler which is the most important part of the steamer. I haven’t found any similar warranty with any other steamers; (g) the Dupray customer care reps and techs are located in North America and those I interacted with were all professional, efficient and eager to help. As mentioned before, I ruined my first One Plus after four months of using it. I called Dupray and a knowledgable technician went through a series of questions to narrow down where the issue was. I uploaded a video showing my steamer not working properly, and the following day I was instructed to return my machine (with a Duprey FedEx shipping slip they provided). A little less than a week later, I got a brand new one. Even though it was not a manufacturer defect and I had normally operated it except when I used filtered water, Dupray didn’t make me wait for them to fix the pump and return my original steamer. Nothing being perfect, here are some aspects of the One Plus I wish would be different: (i) while I have very good continuous steam pressure when cleaning my floor (because you use a lower pressured steam), the One Plus doesn’t maintain full pressure when I raise the steam level to the maximum when using my lancet to clean the grout. If I want to get the most powerful jet of steam, it will last about 30 second before diminishing and I will have to wait a couple of minutes before the gauge reaches the maximum pressure level again; (ii) at the price the One Plus costs, I wish it would have a retractable electric cord mechanism, instead of having to manually wind the cord around the back of it. The brackets that hold the cord in place are not high enough and most of the time a portion of my rolled cord falls off. The accessories come in plastic bags but there is no compartment to store them neatly and efficiently or to attach them to the machine so they are easily accessible when needed. Finally, the main brush I uses to clean my floor is just a little too “thick” making it impossible to clean under my sofa without moving it (fine under the beds though). (iii) at a little over 15 lbs when filled with water, the One Plus is rather heavy to handle, particularly when steaming the steps leading to my basement or the upper floors. But it’s a downside that I accept to be able to use it uninterrupted because that’s what happens when you have a stainless steel boiler filled with water and a separate tank filled with water as well. A year later, I’m still very satisfied with my purchase and don’t regret the selection I made. ... show more

  • Big help with textured tile floor
I have a very textured tile floor that I have always cleaned with an extractor style floor cleaner (Hoover) as regular mopping just stuffs more dirt in the texture. After ten years, even that wasn't cutting it and the floor looked really disgusting. I tried half of it (it covers about 1200 square feet of my house) with a hand brush on my hands and knees, which works but is really a workout. Enter the Dupray steam cleaner. I have had a bit of a learning curve but I'm becoming more comfortable now and it does a great job. I have to say for the dirtiest of the untreated floors hand scrubbing was still superior on the intitial go through, and you do need to help it with a degreaser/cleaner if it is really bad. However, using it on this tile as a steam mop gets a MUCH better result than my extractor was, and after 3 moppings the affected tiles are becoming cleaner without the heavy scrub. I have high hopes that if I continue to use it to mop these tiles, I may not have to revisit having to do another heavy scrub ten years from now. It has also been a big help on my tile counters in the kitchen and my linoleum in the bathrooms. Did a great job on a VERY dirty outdoor gas grill too. I think as I learn more tricks and techniques this is going to make life a LOT easier, and it's certainly cheaper than replacing the floor! I think the only thing I was quizzled about was that the nylon brush tips seem to deteriorate a little quick for me. But I was using them on kitchen tile grout and who knows that I won't find that that's not how I should be using them. I thought the brass brush tips would be too abrasive for my application and scratch the tile. I need to watch more videos. ... show more

  • Know How and If You Will Use This
If you can find many ways to use the steamer and will use it often, it could be worth the cost. I am pleased at how it cleans grout, tile, mirrors, mattresses, countertops, and vinyl floors. I plan to use it to clean my car but haven’t done that yet. I also have yet to use it to clean the grill or the oven. I used it on carpet and found that it does a superficial cleaning, but if you need deep cleaning this is not the best option. I prefer a suction type steam cleaner for carpets because they truly remove the dirt. I like that I can leave the water in the unit between uses and that I can refill the tank without shutting off the machine and waiting till it cools to refill. The tank holds plenty of water to get several jobs completed before adding more water. I wish the cord were retractable; it’s tedious to wind the cord after each use. I do not like that there is no clear indicator of the level of steam you are using; the dial has no markings to show a clear setting. I just guess that all the way to the left is maximum and all the way to the right is minimum. It’s not clear where the middle setting is, even though the instruction booklet recommends medium setting for almost every task. I also wish it came with a storage bag for the attachments, but I will just get one sometime. Using the box the tools are in is not ideal for long term. The tools are easy to attach and easy to use, but be aware that the small brushes wear out quickly and you will need to order replacements. I found the window/mirror cleaning attachment a bit cumbersome to use, as you have to keep flipping it around from steam applicator to squeegee side, but it does clean well. You have to do some scrubbing on some windows beforehand, but once they are clean you can just use the steamer more often. Overall, I find the machine a good option for me, but you really have to be committed to using it often enough and in a variety of ways to justify the cost. If you just want a noncarpeted floor steamer, go with something less expensive. You should also not have “magical” unrealistically high expectations, although you can see a difference in some surfaces after cleaning. Overall, I recommend this steamer for ease of use and multi task options, but you really need to consider the high price. It is definitely an investment purchase for most people. ... show more
