  • Works beautifully! Installation easier on the second door.
Size: 18 Ft.
I installed this onto two different garage doors—we have a two-car garage with separate single doors. Like other reviewers complained, the rubber came bent, because of the way it is folded around the metal bars in the packaging. I opened it and hung it in my garage for several days thinking that would stretch out those fold marks but that did not work. What did work perfectly was to lay it out on the driveway in the sun while I removed the old weather stripping from the doors. The sun makes the rubber warm and soft and those folds came right out. The channel bar is a little wider than my old wooden garage doors. The instructions say to center the channel on the bottom of the door, but I thought it looked better to have it even with the front of the door and the excess of the width extending into the inside of the garage, so I installed it that way and am happy with it. I used clear packing tape to hold the metal channel onto the bottom of the garage door while I drilled holes. Even though it’s supposedly not necessary to drill holes, I did so because I think it just makes it easier to get the screws in. I attached the first 4.5 foot metal track bar first, then marked and cut the excess off the second one with a hack saw. I installed the second metal channel bar with the factory cut end on the outside of the door and the end that I cut, facing the other bar. When I stood back, I could see some light coming in between my old wooded garage door bottom and the metal track, so I put in a couple of extra screws. It tightened right up and removed those spots with the slight gap. The hardest part was fishing the rubber into the channels because the track for the garage door is in the way. This made that easier: I “fished” the rubber into the channels without shoving it in—I used two hands—one to gently bend the rubber around the door track and I found that it helped to use the other hand to press UP slightly on the bottom of the U shaped rubber to help take the pressure off it hanging in the channel. At the same time I did that, my husband also used two hands to slide the rubber down the channel. He put one finger inside the far end of the U and GENTLY slid it along, at the same time that I “fed” it in from my end. We worked together. We got a little technique going and by the time we got to the second garage door, it was pretty fast to get the whole rubber in. I was glad that we did two single doors instead of one long double door—the additional length of a double door will make the job more difficult. I read some online instructions that said a few drops of dish soap may make the job easier. I though about doing that where the rubber has to slide along the edge of the metal garage door track, but I decided against it because I didn’t want my fingers slippery—I thought it might make holding onto the rubber more difficult. When all done, this is working beautifully. I also installed a rubber threshold onto the garage floor a week earlier. The new floor threshold and this U shaped weather stripping on the bottom of the doors are working together to keep our previously wet garage floor bone dry now. And they look great and fresh. I am very happy with this product. I write honest reviews because I read reviews myself and appreciate how helpful they can be. I hope my review helped you. ... show more

  • Here’s the scoop!
Size: 18 Ft.
Overall, 5 stars… BUT - here’s what you might wanna know prior to purchase and managing your expectations: 1- as other reviewer point out, it’s a great value and easy to install. Product seems to be holding up very well since installing several months ago. 2- I used a hacksaw to cut the metal plates to size for two small garage doors. Make sure you line up the channel as perfectly as possible because you need to shove the rubber/vinyl strip thru there later and any snags can be a pain. I cut the rubber strip with just a simple box blade. 3- when installing the metal plates, use duct tape to hold them in place and line up one plate to the next as seamlessly as possible. This can take some time to get perfect… but definitely take extra time to try and achieve perfection. You will thank yourself later when pulling and pushing the rubber strip through there. 4- the “gap” this product covers. Here’s a tidbit you need to understand before you purchase and have expectations—- my old strips were crunched down and didn’t maintain a rounded shape after many years of being crushed under the garage doors. So, I bought this product to create a better seal along the floor. After adjusting my garage door openers slightly, one door has a much better seal, but the other door has about the same amount of seal to the ground/floor. Why? Well, it’s not the manufacturer’s fault… nor is it an installation mistake on my part. I couldn’t tell prior to replacing these seals that the reason one door had crushed down so badly on the old strip was because the door bottom doesn’t close parallel to the floor, it’s slightly shifted (maybe about 2 degrees) so one side seals really well, but the other side is raised off the ground a slight bit. Either I can crush this new strip down on one side to narrow the gap on the other side, or… what I’ll probably do soon is install a new threshold underneath where the door “seals” to the ground and shim that threshold up a bit to make a perfect seal. I do plan to replace one of my garage openers in the near future as well and may ask the contractor if it’s possible to (easily, aka ‘cheaply’) adjust the door, which I don’t think will be practical since the top of the door is perfectly parallel to the trim above the garage door. Adjustment would fix one problem, but create an aesthetic issue in its place. I’m OCD, which makes me take on even complex problems so they’re done “right”… which is a good trait. However, if I adjusted the door and it wasn’t parallel at the top… I’d look at that issue every.single.day and it’d drive me nuts! I’m especially critical of my own work no matter the minority of detail. ... show more

  • Good quality parts - pretty easy to install but req. some handy
Size: 18 Ft.
You have to drill holes in the aluminum BUT the profile has a groove for centering the drill bit. Also, whole thing is about 2 inches longer than the 18', so you have to trim length too. However, it was easy and took me about an hour to do. (I did wipe silicone spray lubricant into the aluminum first so the soft part slid in pretty easily.) ... show more
