  • Compact and easy to use
This product had good reviews and my neighbor bought one because a few of our cars on our street have had wires chewed by rodents. The neighbor said it has worked for her so I’m giving it a try. I wasn’t able to mount it under the hood because there is no place to put it. So I place it under my car each night. It’s not the most convenient, but I think it’s a good spot because the strobe lights are most visible. Obviously I can’t hear the sound, just have to trust that it’s working. It’s compact and hopefully very effective. It cost me $900 to repair so I hope it keeps the rodents away! Fortunately, the damage was covered under the comprehensive car insurance. ... show more

  • Seems to work; so far, so good
ours (ZN-509) is utilized beneath the belly of a trike which lives outside under a bike cover & a metal carport when not in use. our bike mechanic discovered a 'nest' (of some sort) fashioned in the compartment which houses the air filter of our trike last winter during annual "winterizing" & regular maintenance. at a loss, we decided to give this gizmo a try since our options are relatively limited. thanks to fellow, kind, community members' reviews, we bought this Loraffe model for the trike situation & another 'big brother' Loraffe for our 10'x12' metal shed out back (the much larger, triangular shaped, "4-in-1" model w/ two speakers & flashing LED's). both products have been used for a month & so far, so good! the one in the shed is plugged in 24/7 & the one on the concrete carport pad beneath the trike (this model above) runs on batteries. we haven't had to replace the batteries yet after 1 month but it's only "on"/ running during the evening & wee hours of morning. i see no indication of any rodent invasion in or around the trike since appropriating this unit about a month ago... again, so far, so good. i like the compact size of this model & might imagine it could impart lots of beneficial uses in a wide variety of places or applicable situations. iow's, it's small & portable & will run w/ standard AA's (3). yes, it's made in China. yes, it comes w/ a 1 year warranty. yes, you must remove the back plate to install batteries b/c that plate is secured by 1 tiny screw (the kit comes w/ a handy, tiny screwdriver + 8 tiny "zip" ties & 2 extra tiny screws). personally, i see no problem w/ this design but ymmv. Conclusion: would I recommend the product (or, Loraffe in general)? so far, absolutely. would I buy again? whelp, hopefully not b/c we hope the two we've already invested in will work as intended/ advertised for years to come. the ZN-509 emits both ultrasonic sounds & LED strobe effect lights which 'cycle' through 5 stages about every 113 seconds. there is both a red indicator light & a beeping sound emitted from the unit (per manual) when low power (<3.3 volts) is reached & batteries need replacing. there are two switches: an On/Off switch and the "Test" switch. that's it. we dwell in the ATL, GA suburbs (for context) in an older subdivision & our property (about 1/2 an acre) is adjacent to about 2 acres of natural, wooded area which also extends around the rear of our property line. we've been here about 17 years & rodents (mostly squirrels & field mice) have been the major culprit of our rodent dilemma. between the Loraffe's, the annual owls & hawks, we're optimistic that that dilemma will prove mitigated once and for all... time will tell. ... show more

  • Works great!
Works great! Haven't had any mice in our Tundra for 2 weeks now. Battery lasted about a week, but it's been pretty cold.. If it was warmer, I bet we could get 2 1/2-3 weeks on the batteries. Definitely buy rechargeable batteries for it, wayyyy cheaper than buying new batteries all the time. Motion sensing, could be better though, it seems to go through the cycles even as we drive. ... show more

  • Doesn't keep rats away
This review is for the Loraffe Battery Operated Ultrasonic Rodent Repellent. The rat population in New York City increased substantially during and after Covid. Rats started appearing in neighborhoods that never had rats before. When I opened the hood of my car one day and saw rat feces and what appeared to be urine stains, I knew that one or more rats had started hanging out there. . I know for a fact that rats will chew wires. Rats got into an electrical equipment room at work and chewed the wires. This caused quite a problem. Hence, I started looking for a way to keep the rats out of my car. I decided to try this ultrasonic device. I put in it 3 brand new Energizer lithium AA batteries and even checked them with my battery tester to make sure that they were good. Unfortunately, it didn't keep the rats away. I suspect that in order to conserve battery life, the device is probably not loud enough. Thus, I tried something else. I went to Home Depot and bought a can of Tomcat rodent repellent spray. I sprayed it unto a rag, opened the hood, and wiped down all the areas that had rat feces and urine stains (I had previously thoroughly cleaned them). It seems to be working. I no longer see rat feces and urine stains. ... show more

  • Works but has design issue
I’ve been using this electronic repellent in my covered outdoor barbecue to keep mice out. It worked well for one month before it stopped working. Changing batteries didn’t help. I then noticed corrosion on the battery terminals. I scraped the terminals clean and reinstalled batteries, and the repellent worked. If the terminals corrode after one month the manufacturer should improve their battery terminal design. ... show more

  • Works Well
It does not seem to bother the dogs. A tip is to attach it to the opposite side of the batteries otherwise the zip tie can block the battery drawer. It has a low battery alarm that I once mistook for a problem with a newer truck that I bought a couple of these to protect. It’s a great feature.

  • Repels pests
We use this on one side of our crawl space near the access, great help where rodents might be trying to get in and also would help in shed or garage. No poisons to cause concern for cats and dogs and wildlife. We like the electronic repellents and have used them for years.
