  • Fantastic printer
The lk5 is my first 3d printer and it has performed extremely well. Assembly was straightforward. I was surprised to watch it handle almost everything thrown at it. Gridfinity bases & vase bins, yeti lid holders, a pro32 soldering clamshell case and not to mention relatively fine threads. Some models with overhangs do produce a few rings but I think it's an adjustment I have yet to tweak. One model, a wire spool holder failed and I don't know why. The printer seemed to think a support was present but was not. Just air. One of my requirements was the ability to print decent threads. It is plastic output and wasn't expecting much. Threaded dust covers for a Baofeng 5rm radio were ready in under 35 minutes and threaded well. A few did require a fiddle. I print with PolyMaker Pla Pro at 220 degrees and without an enclosure. Room temp is 68-70. We had some higher humidity days due to snowfall. I got a few bad prints after a couple good and decided to checkout a filament dryer. Seemed to do the trick. A few keys that worked for me: Check the SD card. Good info and software. Strain relief how-to+ Level your bed. Then do it again. I stepped away Print a test model from the SD card Tune if necessary Download and print the shock absorbing feet from printables! Search for LK4. Different printer, similar feet Z-offset setting - your mileage may vary. I tried -.10, then -.15 and have been running at -.20 If your prints don't stick to the bed, consider a glue stick Yes it can produce plastic spaghetti. I think it was the model I downloaded or I incorrectly sliced/whatever in the software. One of the fans is a little chatty but other than that quiet with belts zipping back and forth. The mechanism employed to load new models is cumbersome but will choose my battles. I added a ribbon cable card reader and printed the attachment gear. It has to be power cycled to load the revised model list. Bummer but better. I think this is a great printer especially for the price. The print quality meets my expectations and 100% would buy again. Will add a few photos of prints. ... show more

  • It just doesn't work
This is mine and hubby's third 3D printer - and it's awful. First off, it says "95% assembled". That's a lie. Our other 3D printers that were 90% assembled needed much less assembling than this thing did. Second - as I was doing the leveling - manual only but I knew that when I bought this - as it was moving to the third leveling position, the initial Z-height was so off it scraped across the glass bed and put a long scratch in it! Third - I could not find a way to change the step increment for Z-offset. After some research, I learned it only goes in .05mm increments unless you buy an additional piece of hardware. No thanks. I managed to work around that. Test print went well. I have tried 4 prints since then and they have all been disasters. The first layers print fine, but as the print gets higher, the printer seems to lose Z-height, until it's squishing the print and then eventually slams into the side of the layers it has just finished and then - print failed. Shorter objects get printed so closely to the raft layer that it's impossible to pry them off. And that is with a raft air gap of .25mm, which both of our other 3D printers do just fine with. If I don't use a raft they print so close to the bed that it's impossible to pry them off without breaking them. Final straw for me is now the filament sensor is apparently broken and it won't print at all because it thinks there is no filament. The relatively low price of this printer made me nervous, and it seems that was justified. It is not "inexpensive", it is a CHEAP piece of junk. Don't bother wasting money on this thing, especially if you're new to 3D printing. Spend the higher dollar amount on a better printer. Hubby and I have decided this one is a lost cause, and are likely going to get another one of the same brand we already have, as those have been fairly reliable. ... show more
