  • GM6000iED: Works well for RV. I like it.
Style: GM6000iED
The media could not be loaded. Update: Bottom line, I'm still happy with this purchase. After about 225 hours of use, the battery and electric starter both died. The pull starter had broken previously, but I wasn't concerned with that at the time since I always use the electric starter. However, with both starters and the battery dead, I was left with an unusable generator. I contacted Genmax support initially by phone, and was pleasantly surprised to get a live human almost instantly. I explained the problems I was having and was told the parts I needed would be shipped to me free of charge under warranty. There was some follow-up by email after that and it turned out one of my parts was backordered which delayed things a bit. I did eventually get my parts as promised and my generator is back up and running. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with their warranty support. It's good to know they stand behind their products. Original review: I bought this Genmax GM6000iED generator and a boeemi L14-30P to 14-50R adapter to power my RV for occasional off-grid use and as a backup power source during outages. I have a power-hungry 40-ft fifth wheel, so one of those dinky generators just wasn't going to cut it. This one is powerful enough to keep us comfortable, but not powerful enough to run all the high-power devices simultaneously. It does allow us to easily run two 15,000 BTU roof AC units, an 18 cu ft Norcold refrigerator, 50" TV, and a few small items (lights, 12V vent fans, etc.) with plenty of power to spare. I'm impressed by the overall design and quality for the price. This generator is far from silent (as any producing this much power) but certainly acceptable. It's not much louder than a typical AC unit. Placed about 25 feet away from my RV, I can barely hear it from inside. This unit may be a little heavy for some. It weighs just under 120 lbs empty, which puts you somewhere around 145 lbs with a full gas tank. No problem if you are able to wheel it everywhere but a little tougher when it comes to lifting it, especially from the ground into the bed of a truck for example. Lifting it into the storage compartment of my RV is a little easier since it's much closer to the ground. If this sounds like too much, I'd recommend two smaller units and a parallel kit. I prefer a single unit and this is manageable for me. I've put about 17 hours on it so far, 2 hours at idle without load and about 15 hours at about half-load or less. It starts easily using the pull start, electric push button start on the unit or the remote start. The display is very nice giving a readout of time since last start in hours and minutes alternating with total runtime in hours, gas gauge, voltage, frequency, and load in kW. The low idle mode works well for saving fuel when the load is lower. Low idle runs a bit quieter as well and then will ramp up when more power is needed. Access to the oil fill and drain is pretty nice. The included funnel isn't great quality but I appreciate them including it to at least get you going if you don't already have an appropriate funnel. The following accessories are included: propane hose with regulator, spark plug wrench, screwdriver, oil funnel, a L14-30P plug head and a 5-20P plug head. The inclusion of the plug heads to make your own cords was quite unexpected for me, but they may come in handy in the future. Not included, but necessary to get you running: gasoline or propane, and 10w-30 oil. Note that you can only use gasoline containing 10% or less ethanol. I point this out only because E15, which contains up to 15% ethanol, has recently become popular in some areas. Using E15 could cause problems. I haven't run it on propane yet, as it's considerably more expensive than running on gas. I chose this dual fuel model for emergency situations when I need power but don't have gas. I always have propane available because my RV has two 30 lb tanks. Regarding oil, 10w30 is recommended and in one location the manual states .21 gal oil capacity and in another location .12 gal oil capacity. In my experience, neither is right but .12 gal (15.36 ounces) is close as 16 ounces gets onto the cross-hatched area of the dipstick a little less than half-way up. I've changed the oil twice so far even though Genmax says you can wait 20 hours for the first change and then switch to every 100 hours. I'll probably change it at least one more time at a short interval before switching. Even using a full synthetic oil, the changes are cheap since you only use half a quart. I'm currently using Super Tech 10w30 full synthetic (a little over $5 per quart at this time). I'd rather spend a bit more on oil doing the changes more frequently than recommended, especially during the break-in period. It's cheap insurance to keep the engine healthy in my opinion. Only time will tell how durable this generator really is, but so far I'm impressed and I'd recommend it. If you made it all the way to the end, hopefully my long, rambling review was full of useful information to you. ... show more

  • Buying this generator was a mistake.
Style: GM3500iAED
First and for most I want to say that I like the unit, it’s a great size, makes good power, has nice features, and is efficient, a little louder than I would have liked but it’s not bad by any means. However mine only lasted 7 hours before it developed an issue that’s left it unusable, the manufacturer was some help, but the process of getting parts is a pain assuming you get the right parts the first time. I tried to fix it to begin with. Thought it was an issue with the CO detect system, got a new sensor, turns out it’s not that, likely a bigger issue on the 12v side of the generators electrical system. Went to return it but because it took so long to get parts and figure out that it’s a much bigger issue Amazon will no longer honor any kind of return. Both companies have effectively told me to pound sand at this point, more so Amazon, and neither one seems to be interested in standing behind the products they sell. Unless your luck is better than mine just go to harbor freight and buy the equivalent predator generator. It’ll atleast be easier to fix if something goes wrong. ... show more

  • I love knowing that I own a large enough inverter generator to pretty much run my entire house.....
Style: GM9000iED
This generator is perfect for my needs! I was looking at the larger 240 volt inverter generators on the market to power my house during extended power outages. I decided this GENMAX GM9000iED has the most features for the best price compared to any of the other similar generators in this category. For example, if you compare this GENMAX 9000 iED generator to the Predator 9500 watt inverter generator offered by Harbor Freight: The GENMAX has a full digital multi meter showing power usage, the Predator only has an hour meter. The GENMAX has remote start, the Predator does not. The GENMAX has an engine oil filter screen, the Predator does not. (as far as I know, none of the GENAMX competitors have any form of engine oil filtration) The GENMAX is dual fuel compatible (gasoline and propane), the Predator is only setup to burn gasoline. The GENMAX has a 50 amp receptacle built in so no adapters are needed when plugging into large RVs, The Predator does not have this. (And I don’t believe any of the other 9000 watt inverter generators on the market have it, either… at least at the time of this review) When you compare the full asking price of the GENMAX vs the full asking price of the Predator, they are the same price. (at the time of this writing, Sept 2022) The GENMAX has a bunch more features for the exact same price as the Predator. I realize either one of these generators can be on sale at any given time but for conversation sake I am comparing full price vs full price to make it fair and even. I purchased my generator through Amazon and the home delivery company who delivered my generator did a great job. Because the generator is heavier than what the typical Amazon Prime delivery truck can handle, they ship the generator as “freight” to a local home delivery company in your area. That delivery company called me on a Friday afternoon. (My deliver was scheduled for the following Wednesday) The lady who called wanted to setup a time for the delivery. She asked if they could deliver it on the following Monday, but that didn’t work for me. We eventually settled on that Tuesday, which was one day earlier than was originally scheduled through Amazon when I originally placed the order. On that next Monday the home delivery company sent me an automated text to remind me of the Tuesday delivery, and to give me a timeframe when the truck would be at my house. On Tuesday my phone beeped with a text from the truck driver letting me know he would be at my house in 20 minutes. (This was right in the middle of the window of time they gave me the day before) Exactly 20 minutes after that text, the truck rolled up on the street in front of my house. Two guys unloaded the generator off the truck and rolled it up my driveway on a furniture moving cart and rolled it right into my open garage stall. The outer shipping carton (cardboard box) on the generator had a small puncture in the side from the tip of a forklift fork. I asked the delivery guys to stick around for a few minutes so I could insect the item before signing for it and officially accepting the delivery. They gladly waiting for me to unbox the generator and look for damage. I quickly discovered these generators are shipped in TWO thick cardboard cartons (not just one) and my inner cardboard carton was flawless and so was the generator itself. I signed for the delivery and the two guys said thank you and drove off onto their next delivery. It was a very easy and painless process. I would say between Amazon, and my local home delivery company, they have this oversized/overweight home delivery/scheduling perfected. It went very smoothly! I took both side panels off the generator and filled the engine with oil on one side, and connected the electric start battery on the other side, I then reinstalled both side panels and lastly I poured about a gallon of non-ethanol gas in to the gas tank and the generator was ready to start. On brand new engines I like to slowly pull the rope cord to move oil throughout the engine before hitting the electric start button, which is exactly what I did. Once I pulled the rope 3 or 4 times, I turned on the main power switch and hit the big round start button. I started right up and ran perfectly! I am still in the process of breaking in the generator so I haven’t completely loaded it down yet but I have been varying the load with two small electric heaters, and I’ve also been varying the engine speed by turning the low idle switch on or off every 5 or 10 minutes. I have also made sure that it will run pretty much anything in my house. I recently installed a power “inlet box” on my house along with a generator interlock device on my main panel. (Everything inspected and passed) My house is not very big and every light bulb is LED. I flipped the light switch on in every room along with my TV and refrigerator running, internet modem, router, desktop computer, driveway flood light etc…. and it was still able to kick my central AC unit on…. And I don’t even have an easy start kit installed. VERY impressive! The generator runs like a Swiss watch and is very quiet, especially for its size. I have it positioned in such a spot where I cannot hear it running in my house. This thing is the best product that I’ve purchased in a long time. I absolutely love knowing that I have a large enough generator to run pretty much my entire house during extended power outages, and it’s quiet enough that I won’t have to lose my mind listening to it run 24 hours a day during outages, AND it’s an inverter generator so it constantly puts out exactly 60 hertz at roughly 120 volts. Even with my home AC running along with a bunch of lights and appliances, this generator was still running at exactly 60 hertz and the voltage maintained right around 120. Perfect! I believe this is the best inverter generator with the most features that you can buy right now. If you’re looking for a generator like this for either camping or home backup, this is the one! ... show more

  • Great generator and even better customer service
Style: GM3500iAED
I purchased this genmax generator GM3500iAED it worked great for the first year. Unfortunately I tried starting it the next year and it wouldn't start with the remote. I tested the lithium battery and it was dead and didn't take a charge. I called customer service and explained the problem and even though i was just past my warranty the said they can send a battery for free. I like that we could still use the generator with the pull start. And look forward to using this generator for many more years. ... show more
