The product under review is a Duromax generator that receives high praise for its performance, even when used heavily. Reviewers have used the generator to power deep water wells, homes and travel trailers. It's described as being reliable, offers steady power and has a large-capacity fuel tank. However, some users have noted that the generator is loud, heavy and may be of inconvenience for some people.

Pros

  • 👍 Dependable for powering deep water wells, homes and travel trailers.
  • 👍 Offers steady power which does not fluctuate.
  • 👍 Large capacity fuel tank that lasts about 10 hours on half-wattage usage.
  • 👍 Equipped with both electric start with key and manual rope start for convenience.

Cons

  • 👎 Heavy and tall, making it hard to move around especially for small-sized folk.
  • 👎 Comes with plastic wheels that don't hold up well with prolonged use.
  • 👎 Assembly instructions are lacking, making it hard for less mechanically inclined individuals to set it up.

Should I Buy It?

Yes, the Duromax generator would be a good purchase considering its benefits. Despite its several cons, the reliability, steady power and durability of the generator make it worth the investment, particularly for those looking for a substantial power source for deep water wells, homes, travel trailers or homestead setups.

  • Very powerful and extremely well made
Style: 13,000-Watt Dual Fuel
Big and powerful. Comes with a battery, propane line and even a complete tool kit. Simple to assemble wheels. Extremely complete and clear instructions. Comes with all require electric plug ends (not electrical cables.) Even an oil fill funnel (through no oil and must use regular oil for 8 hr. break in.) Heavy but easy to move. ... show more

  • Great and reliable generator 4 years
Style: 13,000-Watt Dual Fuel
I bought our generator Nov 2021, and seen a lot of mixed reviews. I’ve used gas and propane to fuel the generator has been very reliable, I used it a lot 2022 & 2023 while building a house, it currently is backup power for our AirBNB, and it starts and power the entire AirBNB and shop without any issues. I replaced the battery 2024 and I highly recommend this unit. ... show more

  • Upgraded from 1 to 5 star review due to AWESOME Customer Service
Style: 13,000-Watt Dual Fuel
Purchased 2 of these units one week apart in March 2022 to power our new 5th wheel RV. These units are super powerful and easily ran our RV with 3 AC units during the brutal Phoenix summer months. They were really easy to set up and we have used both gas and propane to power (husband is a contractor but didn't really need special skills to set up.) We rotated these 2 with our existing Westinghouse Wgen 7500 generator to provide 24/7 power during triple digit heat as we are boondocking on raw land with no utilities. Unfortunately, from day 1 the first Duromax unit used excessive oil. In August the first unit died and could not be repaired. We submitted a warranty claim online. During the delay between claim submission and receipt of the new unit, we spent over a thousand dollars renting a Honda generator (super loud and gas guzzler). The week after the new unit was delivered the 2nd unit died. After submitting a 2nd warranty claim, I went onto the Duromax website and submitted a 1 star review detailing all of our issues since purchase. Within 15 minutes I received a phone call from Brandon in Customer Service at Duromax. He apologized for the delay in replacing the first unit and the overall issues we experienced, expedited the replacement of our 2nd unit AND sent us a reimbursement check for the full amount we paid to rent a generator. He also provided his email and direct phone number in the event that we had any further issues. Since then, they have shipped us new carbon brushes, AVRs, an electric starter and other pieces needing to be replaced for regular maintenance. For the number of hours they are used, it is to be expected that parts will wear out. They cost us nothing as all were under warranty. We know that we use our units alot more than most. If you just need an emergency backup unit for a couple of days here and there, you will love these generators! Customer Service has made us big fans. These generators are super powerful and half the price of the "comparable" competitors (we did alot of research). The replacement units have not had the same oil issue, so we may have just gotten a bad unit. No equipment is perfect. We really appreciate that once they were aware of the problems they stepped up to make us whole and ensure that we were happy. Thanks Duromax! FYI, we tried a Predator generator from Harbor Freight. It lasted 1 week and we returned it. ... show more

  • Powerful Beast, and Dual Fuel Rocks, But . . .
Style: 13,000-Watt Dual Fuel
So I purchased our DuroMax 13000EH (Dual Fuel) in the summer of '23, where it sat in the garage until a few months ago. I don't recommend that strategy for "peace of mind", because if you wait to crack this thing open until you need it you're in for some setup time and possible heartache. EXEC SUMMARY - For Duromax 13000EH Generators (Dual Fuel), you MAY need to need to switch out the spark plugs with these: NGK Standard Spark Plug BPR6ES, 7131. BUY 'EM ANYWAY, YOU NEED TO CHANGE PLUGS FROM TIME TO TIME. DuroMax apparently put a bunch of incompatible plugs in their 2023 units and perhaps in years prior, which caused huge backfiring (such that it damaged at least one guy's carb) on propane. Duromax is said to have corrected this for units ordered in 2024 and forward. - Get a TRANSFER SWITCH installed by a professional electrician at the breaker box to complete the setup, so you can just plug your Generator into that bad boy and get the lights back on. - Consider a 100 Gallon Propane tank (or two) and keep it on-hand for when extended power outages. It stores well, and may be tough to procure if you wait until the hurricane hits or the earthquake comes. -- Get a trickle charger for the battery. That battery rocks when it's fully charged. FULLER SUMMARY As noted, I waited over a year before firing ours up. I thought the thing was going to blow up. I had finally gotten around to scheduling an electrician to install a Transfer Switch and input plug for the Generator, so we could power most of the 2,500 sq. ft. home. Before the appointment I unboxed this beast, filled it with oil per the instructions, hooked up the propane and hit the electric starter. BANG! (Pop!) BANG! This thing was making HUGE backfiring noises and refusing to start. (It ran fine on gasoline, btw.) So now the battery had drained down to "She'll Naught Taek Much Morrrre of This, Keptin" after about five tries, which wasn't very cool either. VERY long story short, I researched the holy **** out of this and found a YouTuber named "AngryBeard" who figured out it needed the new spark plugs referenced above. So I went for it and by God, it worked. Weird, but it fixed it. Got a trickle-charger for the battery. Amazon sells 'em, just like the sell the sparkies. Starts up with FIRE now, it's easier than tugging that rope. The electrician installed the Transfer Switch and we tried it out powering most of this 2,500 square foot home (NOT the AC), and it acted like it didn't even have a load on it with all of the lights on, fridge running, garage freezer going, etc. Super happy with that. Consider your fuel source when the stuff hits the fan. More on that in the exec summary. Good luck! ... show more
