  • Amazing Value. Perfect and easily playable with a high fun factor!
Color: Matte Black
Bought one a few months back in Blue Ocean and loved the guitar so much that I picked up another in the Matte Black. These guitars are great and I find myself playing them more than my higher end Ibanez and Jacksons. They are very light and the string through body provides a nice warm tone. I had high expectations from the You Tube hype, but I was shocked at the quality and playability of these guitars. Fit and finish was perfect right out of the box. No flaws. Neck had proper relief, no high frets and the guitar intonation was spot on. I swapped the strings to D'Addario .09 gauge XLs based on my preference, but the strings it came with were fine. The picks ups sound incredible, although they wiggle if you push on them so I may try to secure them better. If that is the only minor issue, I will take it at this price point. The hard tail bridge was perfect and the matte black version came with shortened bridge fork set screws as compared to the blue ocean which were slightly high, but not really an issue. Matte Black neck was slightly thicker. I found the tuners to be fine although some have said they are cheap. Bottom line is for the price point, these guitars play like they should be at least double the price. I have two and I'm tempted to get a third in seeing some of the new colors. ... show more

  • For the price? Great.
I was scrolling Amazon for another guitar to add to my collection and the finish on this one caught my eye, I read the reviews and bought it. I got it at my house two days later, and the finish is exactly as expected (maybe even a touch better in person even). It is not however perfect and for clarities sake you should know - my guitar had some damage to the area underneath my pickup selector switch. Looks like the finish cracked or perhaps something is suck underneath the finish itself. It also has a weird rough patch at about the middle of the neck on the portion of the fret board that displays the fret marker dots - it is the area where the neck and the fret board join. You may have just read that and thought - this is a quality control issue - and it is. But for 230 bucks (245 with shipping and everything handled) I can say I would recommend this guitar to just about everyone and anyone, both beginner and advanced players alike. The neck feels wonderful. The pick ups are clear and punch - almost too much! The fretboard and frets themselves really lend themselves to fast playing. The simplification of the guitar via the singular volume knob, and pickup selector switch is awesome. I have 8 guitars - I’ve never ever fussed with a tone knob. It comes pre stringed so a new guitarist is going to get a month (ish) out of it before incurring any additional costs, and those of us with a preference can just swap em out. And finally the color - it’s absolutely the best looking guitar I have. Bar none. It’s beautiful. My photograph does it no justice - it looks like you’re in a plane overlooking the beach. ... show more

  • So Happy!
Color: Blue Flame
I LOVE this guitar! I have guitars that I spent almost 10 times more on, but none of them feel as good in my hands as this one. It sounds great and it beautiful to look at. It is also had the very best setup of any guitar I have ever owned. It's like the person who did who did the setup was reading my mind and performed the setup exactly to my specifications. Don't be like me and assume that you have to spend around $2K to have a "good" guitar. Do yourself and your bank account a huge favor and buy Leo Jaymz guitars. I certainly will be buying another one. ... show more

  • Either received a "lemon" or serious Quality Control issues, otherwise "decent"
Color: Matte Black
To preface, I own many budget/midrange guitars and decided to add this to my collection after watching pretty rave reviews of the model (from 2 notable youtubers, who I'm a fan of). I was in the market for another metal style superstrat, and this being affordable with a hipshot style bridge made me pull the trigger. So I decided to pick up the Monsoon in matte black with gold hardware/cream humbuckers. Unfortunately for me, the hype ended pretty fast after I unboxed the guitar... Disclaimer: for those thinking I'm being too nitpicky about certain issues: I own guitars from Harley Benton, Firefly, EART, and Earl Slick. At similar price-points, NONE of them are the disaster that this Monsoon is, in terms of the build quality/craftmanship. Imperfections are to be expected, but this either: shouldn't have left the factory; or should have been sold as "B-stock" at a reduced price. CONS: Please refer to the pictures to get a better sense of the problems addressed below. Issue #1: The noticeably scratched up bridge saddles. The second saddle down (A sting) had gold plating chipped off and was beginning to oxidize already. It's clear the the bridge was banged/scraped at some point prior to shipping because the guitar was packaged well. Issue #2: Shoddy placement of the side dot markers. They are ALL off-center down the entire neck. Funny enough, the only side dots that are fairly centered are those on the 12 fret, however they are noticeably crooked. Issue #3: (BIGGEST ISSUE) Bridge humbucker popping up. You can see in the photo (after the unboxing) the treble side screw was barely secured at all and the lug/screws were pressed up against the high E/B strings. I just assumed that the pickup was never tightened thoroughly, so I screwed the pickup back down level and set it to a standard height while doing the initial setup. After about 15-30 mins of playing the screw slowly backed out sending the pickup into the strings again. Turns out the upper portion of the screw hole was partially stripped/bored out prior to leaving the factory. (thus backing out due to vibration during shipping and while playing). I had to screw the pickup down all the way so with wont loosen, but not it's too low for my liking. At some point, I'll plug/re-tap the mounting hole properly, as there is currently no adjustability. Issue #4 Missing paint around pickup route. This is minor but I have yet to own any guitar (of my 19) that didn't have paint along the exterior of the entire body; was this guitar routed after being painted instead of prior? Maybe scraped while the pickup was installed? Regardless this will need a touch-up. Issue #5 Sloppy Nut. No effort was made to cleanup the nut slots after they were filed in, leaving excess plastic burrs. Fortunately the guitar currently holds tune and the strings aren't binding. Might be an issue if going to a heavier gauge strings. I'll have to clean them up during the next string change. Issue #6 Truss rod cover screw access. You have to loosen/remove the A and B stings out of the way to gain clearance to bottom screws. Screw placement was an afterthought. Should have went with a 1-screw design, or spread the bottom 2 holes further apart to so a screwdriver can clear the strings (like all my other guitars with truss rod covers) Other tooling marks (fretboard) a blemishes exist throughout...but is to by expected on sub $300 guitar PROS: -Alnico V pickups sound great. High output and nice high end clarity/dynamics. Probably the best feature of the whole guitar - No need to replace them. The pots, blade switch, input jack all feel fine (for now) and haven't loosened. -Guitar is of reasonable weight and comfortable. Weighs about 7-7.5 lbs and the neck feels good in the hands. Modern-C profile (not super thin) with a flat radius. -Fretwork is good. I love ball-end style frets (fret-sprout is non existent). They could use some polish but no noticeable high frets which are buzzing/choking notes. (action is set to about 3.5/64ths) -Headstock constructed well. Unlike the rest of the guitar the headstock is well crafted (no flaws or blemishes) and the tuners feel nice (18:1 ratio). Also looks killer with the half painted/half raw wood design. -The binding is overall, good. Neck/body binding is solid and only one noticeable blemish along the inner - lower horn of the body (as shown in pic) -From a distance the guitar looks amazing! In conclusion, I'm very disappointed with the fit and finish of this guitar; so much that I have designated it as a beater, which wont get the TLC my other guitars receive. It plays and sounds well, but I own many guitars at this price point that are better built. There is little reason to consider this unless the Leo Jaymz put more focus on QC, or you're really need a budget axe with these exact specs. On a positive note, it seems like the newer batches of Monsoons with flashier finishes seem to be built better. Maybe I did get a lemon, but is it worth the risk? That's for you decide. ... show more
