  • Save your money and skip this one
Size: 4.3-INCH
This device is made with the quality of a cereal box toy. The pictures and discription are misleading. The unit is very small and the only software provided is on a CD. Most new PCs don't include a CD reader any longer. The instruction book doesn't provide any instruction on how to download software/drivers. If you were expecting video quality to present or upload ... looks elsewhere. ... show more

  • Good magnification. Can't see on pc.
Size: 4.3-inch
This is a nice digital microscope. Does it's job magnifys well. Focuses well. Adjustable led light function is nice. Adjustable parts are plastic but functional. Disappointed it doesn't include a micro Sd card Hooked up to my PC . The picture flashed in & out. Read on a review it's plug in & play. Bought the Sd card still didn't display properly on pc. I don't have a cd rom on my computer. The manual which doesn't give much info says to send E-mail for info on how to get the software/ driver for microscope. I'm not very computer savy so would have liked more help in the manual. Also couldn't record a video. In my opinion this is a good digital microscope but for the price the manual should be a little more thorough. Also should include a Sd card. ... show more

  • A Kid's Microscope that An Adult Can Totally Enjoy as Well - Great for Teaching
Size: 4.3-INCH
I really didn’t expect a lab quality microscope. I was expecting a nice, sharable toy that allows more than one person to see the screen. So my expectations were not high and that was a good way to approach this, because it's kind of exactly what you'd expect for the price. Not really high quality, but gets the job done. It takes a lot of patience to use this and it really only works well on objects that are flat or close to flat. On coins it works fantastic. Showing the kids feathers and different fabrics also was a delight and they look great. The kids got a lesson in patience and being gentle with this at the same time. On the other hand, even the thickness of a large bug is too much for the focal length of this lens to show clearly. I didn't set up the computer stuff because for my purposes just using it with the built-in lens is perfect. Because of that, I can't tell you about how it works as far as uploading and showing images on the computer. So if you would like to introduce kids to the world of microscopic stuff, or if you're a coin collector or hobbyist looking to see detail, this is a good purchase ... show more

  • Want to Introduce Littles to Science? Great. Otherwise, pass
Size: 4.3-INCH
Honestly, I should've read the other reviews first before picking this one up, because I had higher expectations than this microscope could possibly meet straight from the box. This review is based solely on the unit out of the box with no buyer updates. It's much smaller than I expected, and the depth for focus is extremely limited. Good, not great, for flat objects (and yes, I realize its marketed for coins, which would be work for beginners). Without slides to flatten other samples that your child can collect, this is pretty much limited to paper fibers, leaves, and similar objects. It is not for small children who do not have fine motor skills and/or the ability to not strong arm the device. The software is archaic and frustrating but eventually workable without being an IT specialist. If you're looking for a cute, fun bonding project as an introduction to science with anyone under 12, this may work. If you're looking for anything else, hard pass. ... show more

  • The little scope cam that could, for the most part.
Size: 4.3-INCH
The box includes: The scope cam A plastic base with a mounting rod A mounting bracket, with height controls A minidisc that includes a copy of the slightly dated amcap software An unbranded 32GB MicroSD card A Micro USB cable A Manual An extremely basic "Introduction to coin collection" guide The entire scope assembly measures 6.75x4.75x7 inches when collapsed, and weighs 15.2 oz. It is indeed standalone, and includes a 18650 li-ion cell, with a marked capacity of 2ah. It also has a microSD card slot, for standalone capture and recording. There is also a brightness control on the right side of the scope, for adjusting LED ring output. The focus ring on the scope is exceptionally large, and is accessible from both sides of the cam. This makes it easy to adjust the focus, without jarring or moving the position of it. Stills can be captured in VGA, 1.3mp, 2mp, and 3mp, modes. Videos can be captured at 1280x720 (upscaled, not native), and VGA (Effectively NTSC - 720x480) None of the above resolutions greater than VGA are native. So all the scope is doing is upscaling the image, leading to larger pixels rather than a truly larger image. The aspect ratio does seem to change though. One thing to note: To take advantage of the complete focal length of the scope, you need at least 12 inches of vertical travel. The included mounting rod only offers roughly 2.75 inches of travel. It's not an issue, there is just additional room for expansion if one chooses to use a longer rod. The vertical rod is a bit of an unusual diameter, so if you're looking to modify the scope for greater coverage, you'll need a rod with a diameter of 0.552 inches (14mm) to do so. The menus have settings for various functions of the cam, and video feed. You'll find settings to adjust image resolution, video resolution, subject alignment, system language, sleep time, light frequency compensation, time and date, software version info, and usb I/O configuration. Image and video quality modes are, as I stated previously, all upscaled from 640x480/720x480 (NTSC), and is not native. so anything beyond the lowest resolution is going to result in increased pixelation. Also, I would likely recommend using something other than the included software, as amcap was released originally for use with Windows ME/2000, and will likely give the user issues when trying to interface with it. It's an extremely old utility, though I do believe it's being maintained by a third party now, so this may have changed. Personally, if you want something fully featured, and free... I would give the Vividia Borescope utility a shot. It's packed with more than enough features for this camera. There are tons of variables that can be configured through it, as well. On that note... The scope seems to function quite well. I've had no problems capturing video clips, or stills with it. If you're aiming to capture at a higher resolution, I would recommend capturing media natively, and postprocessing through an AI based utility. This will give you the best result, without any pixelation. Also, it might be useful to note that this camera uses MJPG encoding. It does not support anything modern, such as h.264 encoding. Overall, it's an excellent little scope, though a bit overpriced for its functionality. One can find similar scope cams, minus the integrated display for around $10. I used to own one, but it failed after approximately 5 years of use. Aside from not supporting higher resolutions natively (without upscaling), it does everything it needs to. I would recommend giving it a shot, if you have the budget for it. The only things that may be considered an Achilles heel, so to speak, are the lack of higher native resolutions, and the lack of any other encoding methods to properly support said higher resolutions. Those can be worked around, with third party utilities though. Some of the above are a limitation of the sensor used in the cam. Unfortunately, this is a hardware limitation. ... show more
