AWESOME: I think these books are fantastic. I would definitely buy them for hiding small valuables. Before my purchase, I read several complaints about the books not looking real - or the pages not looking real, and that once you open the flap, you can see it is a safe. My guess is that most folks are not going to leave these lying around on a desk. If you look in the pictures at them on the shelf, you absolutely cannot tell they are not real books. They are positioned on the bottom row and then there is a close up of the row with the four right next to each other. There was also criticism about the locks. I don't even use the locks. If a thief is into books, takes this off the shelf, sees that it is a safe - regardless of there being a lock, the book won't be there when you get back. COMPARISON OF SEVERAL BOOKS: I bought four of these hidden book "safes." I bought different ones because it seemed there was no sense in having four of the same book on my shelf. So what I have done is laid them out next to each other so that you can see the difference. While they are all comparatively the same in length and width, the Paris book is definitely deeper. A couple had felt, but not this one. That doesn't detract from it though. The felt in the others was cheap and did not stick well to the metal sides (but is functional and serves its purpose). One benefit I found with all the books is that even though they are similar in size, each book is a different size from the other from the outside, making them look more like real books on the shelf. RESULT OF COMPARISON: Of the four I purchased, there was no difference in quality, but there was a pretty significant difference in price. I do think that the one that is deeper could warrant a higher price - but only that one. This was the cheapest of the four books I purchased and is a great book for the price! ... show more

Pros This dictionary book safe has a nice, realistic look There is quite a bit of room inside It is a pretty good product for the price Cons The edges of the "pages" are plastic, making it easier to spot on the shelf if you look closely Conclusion Do not be fooled by the economical price. The cloth texture on the outside of this dictionary safe makes it virtually indistinguishable from other books on your bookshelf. The edges of the "pages" are a white plastic, so you can tell if you look closely. It feels nice and solid in your hand. I originally purchased this dictionary safe as a gift for my brother who is an avid book collector. He really loves this! It is quite practical, as well. It doesn’t look like it holds much, but there is plenty of room inside. It is basically just a hollow shell. Passports, money, or other smaller valuables fit into this little safe with no problem. i would not use this as a super stealth safe or anything. its just a fancy looking lock box. well thats how i decided to use it. some people were complaining about the sides being plastic and not looking real so i wasnt expecting much. but its much more real looking even on the side then i was thinking. it would be nice if the inside was lined with felt so if you do use it it wont clunk around so much on the inside. i keep mine full of nick nacks on the table. not so much as a safe but as a fun storage box. i have many meds i take on a regular bases so i like to keep em close. but its not safe to keep meds out and about when you have parties or random people around. i work from home so i keep my meds in here all the time. and only really lock it when i have parties. so for me this works great! ... show more

    • Simple safe for hiding; not so much for serious security.
This is a simple safe that cold be broken into by a motivated thief but for stashing away small valuables that you want to be able to retrieve easily and quickly this works well while sitting on my shelf with a couple of other types of dictionaries (French/English, etc.) so it looks like it is just part of my language reference section. Since anyone who has researched this type of safe might recognize it, there is some risk but it really does look like it belongs there without jumping out at you as a fake book. The main pro is that it is easy to use. I like to keep some cash on hand but I sometimes need to get at it quickly on my way out of the house so I don't want it to be too cumbersome. It's great for that and my junk silver. It would also work for hiding away from the jewelry box that screams, "take me" if you have something sentimental or valuable that you still want to wear periodically. The large size could also hold a handgun that would keep it handy for emergency self-protection at home while keeping it out of the hands of any children. I don't have any living with me so I keep the key nearby but not obvious. If I had mischievous children I would be more concerned about the location of the key. It is enough of a deterrent when locked to keep the kids from getting inside. I have a small safe as well but it is more obviously something that would have valuables inside. the effectiveness of this product as a hiding spot in vastly increased in a home with illiterate people, as they tend not to go looking for reading materials. decent quality, functions as intended, but not fireproof, waterproof or terribly resistant to the efforts of a determined thief. in fact, when I lost my keys, I found out that it's surprisingly easy to pry open, so this is a good thing to keep in mind. ... show more
