These lights have a lot of advantages compared to other lights. The wrap around design provides excellent lateral visibility, which a lot of lights lack. Blinking light are more visible to drivers and save battery life, and there are multiple blinking modes. I use the high power blinking mode, which puts out 170 lumens and has a life of 6.5 hours. All these advantages make the rear light an excellent option. The front light is not as useful. It has 320 lumens, but it is spread out over a wide angle, making it useless for illuminating the path ahead. A blinking, powerful light in your field of view is distracting, so I've found I can only use the solid light modes, which have a low battery life. I use the front cobber along with a good quality headlamp, which is very good for illumination. The mounts are a mixed bag. Even after a few months of practice, I still can't get them on/off quickly. The lights are held in place by a square plastic tab. So far, they seem perfectly secure, but they are difficult to use, and I've already broken a corner off one. Everything is very replaceable on these mounts. You can buy a new mount and strap for 5 dollars from knog. The rubber strap is an O-ring so it is very easy to replace. ... show more

Reviewing the Knog Cobber Medium rear light: his has some cool design features. The charging port is a male USB plug, which fits into any USB-A receptacle with no cable required. The plug forms part of the mount mechanism and tucks away safely in use, and seems to be waterproof, which is cool. The mount is perhaps the best feature - where most light mounts are a clunky fragile afterthought that sticks way out from the seatpost (or whatever) and always gets bumped and twisted, this is an elegant magnetic-assist mount that sits very close to the seatpost. The light itself wraps around the post so overall it has a very low-profile design that looks cool and stays put. But that male USB charging plug? There is nothing to stop you from plugging it in backwards, in which case it does not charge at all. There's a green glowing ring around the power button if it's charging correctly - it's up to you to notice if you plug it in backwards. Couldn't there be some feature to make it only fit the correct way? Or have charging contacts on both sides of the plug? But the biggest problem I have is that it's not bright in daytime. At night or twilight (which to be fair, are the only conditions Knog has shown in their advertising) it's plenty. Most lights are. However 99% of my cycling time is in daylight, where murderous Uber drivers are blasting around, staring at their phones with dark sunglasses on. I need a bright daylight-visible light with a harsh, attention-getting flash pattern. This is not it. I have a couple Niterider Solas lights (whose batteries no longer last through my long weekend rides). They (and similar Cygolites and others) have a lens that focuses light so it's visible from a great distance directly behind you. This corncob-style light has bare LEDs in a broad 180-degree pattern. It's more visible from the side than my Solas at night. But it's barely visible in daylight from any distance. I measured with a lux meter in a dark room - a Solas 100 (100 lumen) with a shot battery measures 10 lux at 3m in the central beam; a Solas 150 (150 lumen) measures 26.5 lux at 3m. This Cobber Medium rear (rated at 170 lumen) measures 3.6 lux from the same position. I suppose the lumen rating includes all that light on the ground, and in the trees on the side of the road? Just be aware, it doesn't represent how much is visible to drivers behind you. Regarding battery life - on the brightest blink mode, it ran out and died on a six hour ride. Less-bright modes are not worth considering in daylight. Be prepared to babysit it and shut it off whenever possible on long rides, or charge it up from a battery at stops. The charge port is completely inaccessible while mounted. The mount has no angle adjustment at all - it doesn't need one because it's so omnidirectional. On a seatpost, half the light output is toward the ground. On a seatstay, half is toward the sky. Makes no difference - even if it were dead level the same amount of light (not very much) will be pointed at drivers behind you. In short, If you need a daytime light, don't consider anything that doesn't have a focusing lens and an aimable mount. For a night and twilight commuter light though, this is pretty good, low-profile, and nice-looking. PS - Knog has a Mac & Windows app called Modemaker that lets you customize the brightness and blink pattern of the Cobber lights. It doesn't seem to be worth the bother - it has a bewildering array of constant and blink patterns, none of which are any better or worse than the ones that come stock. And it omits the most important information - how bright, and how long the light runs, in each mode. You might find references to using the app to figure out runtimes - that seems to only true for some "PWR" models that I've never seen. No info at all for the Cobber lights. It's a lazy piece of software work that you will try once, then delete and forget it existed. ... show more

    • Bright but quickly burns battery

Not exactly what I was hoping for. This light delivers some very bright flashes, has amazing viewing angles, and an impressive array of flash patterns that can be even further customized using a companion program. Unfortunately, the battery runs out very quickly! Their website lists a few expected run times for the various settings but they seem wildly off to me. For example the "rolling flash" setting supposedly gives eight hours of run time, but my unit only seems to last one hour in this mode. Additionally, the light seems to lose charge overtime regardless of whether you use it. For example, I've charged it and not used it at all for a week, then when I get caught riding a night I find the light is completely dead, while the $15 dollar cheapo rechargeable tail light I bought is still going strong after a week of constant use! This all might not be a problem if it charged quickly, but it usually takes 5-6 hours to get a full charge. Given the price and the fact it's whole marketing revolves around it having super energy efficient "Chip on Board (COB) LEDs", I expected a bit more out of it. All in all, if you don't mind charging your bike lights every night, this light may be great for you. If you're like me and only want to deal with charging once a week, maybe look elsewhere. ... show more

    • Craaaaazy bright and really innovative design - Knog took the rear light to the next level!

Bright is an understatement. This is at least 10 times as bright as the light I had on my bike previously. The light has two mounts it comes with; one for what I think is a seat/rack stay and one that mounts to your seat post. They both have rubber contact pads, so they stay in place and don't mar you seat post or seat stay. The rubber grommets they come with are really thick and strong, too. And unlike the cheap lights you see on here, the grommet stays on the light when you take the light off the bike, so it's pretty difficult to lose them. The light has a built in USB dongle so you don't need a charging cord - it can plug into any USB port to charge. This light is extremely well made. I plan to order quite a few more from Knog. They are expensive but your safety on the road is what's most important. But be warned - you should not look directly at the light when you turn it on, especially in the dark. This thing will literally blind you for several minutes if you aren't careful. But that is also a fair trade-off! Thanks KNOG! ... show more
