I have been struggling trying to find a good can opener. I have developed arthritis in my hands and manual can openers cause me a great deal of pain. I don't have enough room on my counters to house an electric can opener and they are not particularly attractive anyway. I purchased a different battery operated can opener from Amazon about 6 months ago and although it was a little wonky, it worked until it simply died for no reason. I looked at reviews on Amazon for this can opener and others, and reviews from other cooking sites because I simply had to replace the one that died. After reading the Amazon reviews, I had some concerns about this one, but on other sites, this was definitely a top pick, so despite the cost and mixed Amazon reviews, I decided to give it a try. It's larger than the other battery operated one I had previously but better balanced and has a much smoother operation. It fits easily into my kitchen drawer. It does a great job on medium and small cans, but I have not had an opportunity to try it on large or really small (tomato paste) cans. I expect it will work fine with those as well. The previous battery operated can opener I used had a sharp blade that would cut into the label so you had to pick little bits of label out of the contents. I'm so happy this does not do that! It seems to have a really good opening mechanism. Some reviews complained it was too slow. I have not found that at all. Some reviews complained that you had to use a Dremel or something to modify the battery compartment to allow them to connect. I did not find that at all, and the batteries pop in tightly but without trouble. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase and grateful for the ease of operation. I hope it will last longer than 6 months, unlike the other. We will see. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I didn’t think this chunky thing would work this great. It’s heavy, pricey and uses batteries but it works flawlessly. All you do is set it in top, press the button and it does its magic. The can lid came off so smooth. No jagged edges at all. No more cutting your fingers. It’s so safe I would let a child use it under supervision. Only thing is I wish it was rechargeable and didn’t require so many batteries. ... show more

Bought this in November 2023 and I loved it.. Since January 2025 it no longer works. 13 months for $50.00, joke, don't waste your money. Very dissatisfied with the cost versus use calculation. Going to try to return or call customer service. I will update with their response.

I had to buy this when I had an accident and broke the finger on my hand. It works a lot better than I thought it was going to work. You just have to make sure to have it mounted so that the opener in sitting on the lid correctly. Then the top opens right up like lifting a lid. And no sharp edges!
