  • Much safer and more accurate than an axe
So far this thing is great. I mounted it to a 2x12x21 inches long. The 21 inches is just how long the board was, no science behind the length. Splits wood pretty easy. My 75-year-old mother loves it. She split 9 logs about 7 inch diameter into 1/4s and would've done more, but it was all she had. I split the first 5, to showed her how, she split the next 9. We used a 2 pound sled, roughly 14 inch long handle. Just hold the log with one hand and give it a couple good taps until the log stands on it's own, then smack it hard, most split by the 2nd or third hit. Very satisfying, safer than swinging an axe and more even splitting for an unskilled lumberjack. Been calling mom, Ma Bunyan. ;) ... show more

  • Works very well
Does its job. Better if anchored, and holes are provided for anchoring

  • It is as easy to use as shown
Very fast and easy to use. Mounted the SPEED FORCE kindling splitter on a round, and had a stack of kindling in no time at at all.

  • I had my doubts.
Yes I had my doubts about this log splitter but now I’m a believer. The cutting edge is very sharp and can later be sharpened if it is needed. I used a large maul that you can see in the first picture. The hardest part is getting it started with a few small taps. I didn’t screw it to a tree stump, just placed it on the ground. Once started all you need is one or two good blows and then the logs will split. I didn’t even swing the maul very hard to split it. What I really like is that even an uneven piece of wood that can’t stand up straight can be split with this. In the past I’ve used the axe side of the maul and wedges to split wood. This way is a lot simpler and safer. Unfortunately if your logs are larger than 8 1/2 inches you will have to split them the normal way. Then you can use this log splitter. I have a four foot diameter fire pit and now I can easily split three foot logs. For under twenty dollars this is a steal. If I attach it to a log or other surface I’m sure it will split wood easier than having it on the ground. I even picked it up after splitting the logs and there was barely an indent on the ground. Great product and it made me a believer. ... show more

  • Insane deal.
I own two of the original name brand splitters and have ordered perhaps half a dozen knock offs from Vine as extras and gifts for family. Huge variance in quality and price. Some good, some terrible. They all split good enough. So really it comes down to price and aesthetics. If you want heirloom quality go straight for the name brand. They are amazing. However, if you're looking for the best bang for the buck in a pretty nice package, this is it. The design is more attractive than most of the off-brands. This also has the sharpest blade I've seen on any splitter. Perhaps too sharp if you have little people around. The welds are a little messy, but otherwise this thing is an insane deal. Don't hesitate. ... show more

  • A great tool for adding wood to the fireplace.
The SPEED FORCE Kindling Splitter-Log Splitter-FireWood Splitter is a great tool for splitting small logs and splitting larger pieces of store-bought firewood into kindling. I find it works best if you attach it to a stump or log to hold it steady. Smaller logs it dispatches pretty well with a small hammer sized sledge. Medium sized logs really need a full-sized sledgehammer to split. I find hard wood is not easily split with the tool. Ver large logs require a different method. It's very mobile and can be used at home or while camping. It's an affordable tool for splitting logs for the fireplace. ... show more

  • Hammer Log Splitter
Never saw an item like this! I have a remote cabin and like to have items that serve two or more purposes. My sledgehammer now has one more job. Just set the log to be split into the bladed holder and give it a little tap with any sledgehammer and get that fire roaring. Worked great as advertised.

  • Not easier than an axe
These style of splitters have proliferated, and I was hopeful that it would be safer and easier to use than a standard axe, or splitter/maul and sledgehammer. While it's arguably safer, it's a lot harder and takes a lot longer. If you like hitting things a lot more than necessary then maybe it'll work well for you, but even soft small logs don't split with this without a lot of effort. ... show more
