Backstory of my hair (I am notorious for doing idiotic things to it): I have been salon coloring my hair for several years now, so after the first 1.5 inches of my roots was bleached blonde hair. I had started to experiment with red a couple months ago at the salon, and learned that copper was NOT my color. So we went for a more auburn red and smudged my roots dark brown and applied color everywhere else that was once blonde. It turned out beautifully but my bleached hair does not want to hold color, so it faded again after about 2.5 weeks to a burnt orange color. My stylist approved this shampoo for me to try. I was torn between Auburn and Merlot. I wanted to keep it a darker brownish red but I wanted more deeper red on top of it. So we went with Merlot. **I had been using another brand of color wash a few years ago, and I had also tried their Copper a couple months ago, which was when I learned it wasn’t right for me. With that being said, the color wash SHAMPOO I had been using was only meant to sit for 5 minutes on wet hair.** So when I first applied this Merlot, it was in the shower for 5 minutes, only applying it to my money piece for 2 minutes since it soaks up the most color. I included a photo of what 5 minutes of this product does. I of course was panicking that I had once again screwed my hair up, but my stylist came through for me and encouraged me to try again on my damp hair since I’d just showered, and this time let it set longer “because the Amazon listing shows that it’ll get darker with every application”. That’s when I decided to actually go and read the directions (like the idiot sandwich I am). So there is my comparison photo for 5 vs. 35 minutes! The first photo is the next morning in natural light. It looks different in every lighting which I both love and hate, because in the sunlight it’s more bright red and indoors it’s more of a deeper “Merlot” which is what I want. But I am going to use it again today to see if I can achieve an even darker color. My hair is thick and has layers cut into it, and when I saturated it the second time I nearly used half the bottle, which does bum me out because it’s not cheap, but that’s okay because I chose this life. NOT TO MENTION!!!!!!: that the previous color wash shampoo I had been using DRIED MY HAIR OUT SO BAD. I had to soak my hair with conditioner multiple times after every application because it almost left an alcoholic residue that wouldn’t dare absorb any type of moisture. I mean, my hair was squeaking in the flat iron. Dry as a bone. BUT THIS STUFF!!!!!: oh my gosh my hair is so soft. I only used a couple pumps of conditioner afterwards and it absorbed it like a dream. My hair is so soft and smells so good. Overall: 10/10. Just read the directions. :) ... show more

Here’s an after and before pictures. My hair is normally med to dark brown. I didn’t want to dye it, trying to get super healthy hair, but love red in my hair. Found this Clenditioner and thought I would try it. Wow, I am in love. Not only gave me beautiful color for about 2-3 weeks it also made my hair so soft. I had stopped dying my hair a few years ago. My hair was going gray and thinning so I decided to start "babying" my hair to keep what I had left. My hair started to get healthier and thicker during this time. My only issue was the color of my hair. It wasn't fully gray, fully blonde, fully brown - it wasn't a "color" at all. It was blah, boring, and made me look older. I have been looking for something to color my hair but not cost an arm and a leg, not damage my hair, and easy to do. This shampoo has hit almost all of these points. The color is phenomenal, and controllable by you. If you want a tint of color, use it sparingly. If you want vibrant color, use it more often. I've gotten complement over complement since I used this shampoo. Everyone who has complemented my hair I've told them exactly what I'm using and how easy it is, AND affordable it is. I'll admit, I like my hair more vibrant, so I've used the shampoo more often and STILL have shampoo and it's been about 2 months. The only thing I can say about this product that is a negative, is I have noticed my hair thinning again. NOT as bad as getting it bleached or chemically, permanently dyed but still thinning enough that I do notice it happening. I do have medical issues so my hair is most likely more sensitive than others but I did want to include this in my review for those who have concerns like me. I don't think this will stop my use but I will probably cut back and live with a tint of color instead of vibrant color. I will continue using this shampoo and with all the colors available I'm planning on trying other colors and combinations as well. ... show more

The color is as expected dirt and second day /wash. I wash my hair every day and once the color fades there is time when I don’t like the way it looks but generally speaking - I even like the final one that my hair ends up having after multiple washes. It is a good product if you want to try something new and not have a permanent impact. Everything will wash off eventually. I have done 5 applications all 5 times I waited until it was fully washed off before applying again. ... show more

I had my hair colored at the salon a couple weeks ago and the red faded so quickly. I bought this (I mixed the Merlot with red) and it’s perfect! It matched the color I had done and it made my hair so so soft and shiny. I am very impressed!

I feel like this product did make my hair glossy and soft but I feel like the color wasn't all the vibrant. I think I'll try red next time instead of merlot.
