I tried saving money by purchasing the cheap bug catchers which I ended up sending back. I decided to try the Katchy one, and within minutes I had SEVERAL fruit flies! I ended up buying myself a 2nd one, and one for my neighbor as well. These things work great, with or without the liquid you can add to the center. They’re not noisy, the light isn’t disturbing, it’s by far the BEST out there! Super easy to put together and change out the stuff my pads. The sticky pads will last quite a long time, I don’t change mine until they’re pretty much all covered with bugs. Once we got rid of most of the flies/bugs, we kept a sticky pad in there for over 1 month and it still remained sticky. These pads are high quality! It’s kind of satisfying when you hear a larger fly get caught, as it sounds like a machete when hitting the fan blades. Katchy catches all sorts of flies as shown in my pictures. Just don’t touch the white area of the pad, stick to touching the blue “pull here” section or your fingers will get stuck. I'll always recommend Katchy! ... show more

Love how effective it is, honestly from the original model which I’ve purchased days before, it is much more effective because it is a 12 volt 6 watt model versus the original which is only a 5 volt usb and 5 watt power. The duo has an added scent cup as well hence the name. From what I can tell the sticky pads in the duo are also more sticky than the original one. Oh yeah and about those pads they are very easy to install and the product is overall very simple to set up, it literally took me 2 minutes. No mess. Just don’t fill the scent cup more than half way full of the apple cider vinegar and dish soap solution or whatever you want. People have said it will spill, hasn’t happened to me though as I’ve regarded people’s warnings. Anyway it’s a very safe alternative to the bug zappers and whatever else, this method is much better. The light is very soft and adds a neat effect to the area almost like if you had some strip LED’s it’s cool looking. Flies love it and fly right into it and get sucked in, I would advise using it on both highest levels light and fan. Now the noise, I personally love it, it’s not loud and is a very calming white noise to go along with my fan and ac. Even without anything running it isn’t jarring and not a pain to listen to. I was having a terrible time with fruit flies, gnats, and drain flies. I tried some of the various fruit fly traps and baits but they really did not do very much to reduce the problem. I was looking around and discovered the Katchy Duo 2-in-1 Insect Trap and decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did because it really works! It is very simple to set up and use EXCEPT for filling the liquid bait capsule on top. The instruction booklet just directs that it be filled with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap. The problem arises in trying to open the capsule and it is even worse to close the top and lock it in place (I am a senior citizen so my eyesight and hand strength are as good as they once were). To open the capsule, the top needs to be rotated about 3/8ths of an inch counter clockwise. To put the cap back on, it is very hard to see how position the top so it will go back on the capsule enabling it to be locked in place. After much frustration and spilled vinegar, I finally noticed there were tiny protrusions on the side of the top and on the side of the base of the capsule. They were very hard to see as I did not know to look for them. Once I found them, I marked them with a silver permanent marker that makes them easy to find and use. As can be seen in the photos (sorry for the poor quality), when taking the top off, hold the base steady and gently twist the top counter clockwise 3/8ths of an inch and then lift the top off. To put it back on, line up the marks and rotate the top clockwise 3/8ths of an inch. It is recommended to use the Katchy Duo in automatic mode. This will turn the Katchy on when the room is dark (this is the most effective time to attract and capture the files). The device is not designed to run 24 hours per day. If you do that, the units lifespan would be significantly reduced. The device works by attracting the flies (with the apple cider vinegar) and when the flies arrive, they are sucked in and blown down to the bottom of the Katchy where they are trapped by very sticky board. When the sticky board is full, simply replace it. I use the highest setting for both the light and the fan. For best results, the bait capsule should be refilled with apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap es needed. I have found that it needs to be rinsed and recharged every three days. The device will work if you do not refill it regularly but it will not be any where near as effective. ... show more
