  • Kasa KP125-M: The Best Matter Over Wi-Fi Smart Plug on Amazon
Style: Matter Compatible Size: 2-Pack
In my opinion, the Kasa KP125-M is currently the best Matter-compatible Wi-Fi smart plug available on Amazon, with Linkind as a close runner-up. What sets the Kasa apart is its versatility—most of its features can be accessed through the app alone, without requiring a Matter hub. App Compatibility and Setup While the product description claims that the Kasa and Tapo apps are interchangeable, I found this to be inaccurate. The Tapo app failed to connect to the smart plug, whereas the Kasa app successfully connected within seconds. The Kasa app is not only more user-friendly than AiDot (used for Linkind devices), but it is also significantly better than the Smart Life app typically used for Tuya devices. One minor inconvenience is that you must manually select the exact model of your device from a long list during setup. However, once selected, the connection process is instant and hassle-free. Features Comparison Unlike Tuya smart plugs, which are limited to basic on/off remote control, the Kasa KP125-M offers a host of advanced features: 1. Energy Monitoring: Track the energy consumption of your devices. 2. Connection Quality Display: View the signal strength from the plug’s perspective. 3. Geofencing: Automate the plug to turn on or off based on your arrival at or departure from specific locations. 4. Complex Automation: Integrate the plug into sophisticated automation scenarios. Additionally, the Kasa app allows you to run firmware updates immediately after connection and checks for updates periodically—demonstrating that the product is actively supported. Matter Compatibility I successfully connected the Kasa KP125-M to the Apple Home app without a Matter hub, which reinforces its compatibility with the Matter standard. Other smart plugs I tested failed to connect to the Home app without a hub. Privacy and Security Concerns The Kasa KP125-M is a product of TP-Link, a Chinese company currently under scrutiny for potential security risks. There are even discussions about a potential ban on TP-Link routers in the U.S. starting in 2025. Whether this impacts your purchasing decision is up to you. Personally, I consider these concerns speculative at this point, as no definitive evidence has been presented. ... show more

  • Setup worked on the first attempt! Easy Alexa add too
Style: Smart plug Size: 2-Pack
The media could not be loaded. Setup was (compared to other smart plugs I've used) pretty straight forward. There were several steps, but I only had to attempt the setup once per device (I ordered 2) and it worked the first time, so that was a win! Even though the units were brand new, I did have to do a firmware update on each of them, which added a minute or so per device to the setup time. Once I had created an account with the required app, signed in via the app I had to download (kasa app) and entered my wifi password into this app (choose your security risk adventure yourself) everything worked well. I used this to put a pair of lights on one plug and on the other I connected it to a woodburning stove fan. Added both in a room, and customized the name for each item. Adding them to Alexa was easy, after one item was added to alexa, (enabled in the Kasa app) after I initially added the second device to the kasa app, that named device was automatically added to Alexa. transcript of my video review follows (note I was a good distance away from Alexa device so when I have alexa turn things on and off, I had to turn my head to speak more clearly, which has nothing to do with these plugs and their app) This is a 2 pack Smart Plugs they work with the Kasa app and they tell you to download that. In here they've got an on off button. I actually write that on the plug because months, years later if I move around or even if I move to a different house or something like that, it helps me to remember which plug goes with which app. And so on. But about to get these set up. I'm actually replacing some others that from a different source that didn't make it possible to upload the Wi Fi when changed Wi Fi devices. Hopefully these will have some better options for updates. Got it all set up. App wasn't too difficult to connect to. And had to do an update, firmware update. And then after that I was, I was able to connect it to the Alexa app. Alexa, turn off the front lights. Okay. Alexa, turn off the front lights. Okay. Alexa, turn on the front lights. Okay. I then set up the second one. It was easier than the first because the app already had my Wi Fi password. And that's a warning. You will need to input your Wi Fi password eventually. Plus allow for a location setting. And maybe some scheduling type stuff, so consider that whether or not you want to do that. After all that, I was able to connect this to Alexa as well. The second one went faster than the first. Alexa, turn on the stove fan. Alexa, turn on the stove fan. And just getting ready to start a fire, so I got stuff in the wood burning stove, but I wanted to get the fan on the thing. Pretty cool that it works. ... show more

  • Perfect/Compatible Smart Home Plug Option
Style: Smart plug Size: 2-Pack
We absolutely love our Kasa Smart Home Plugs! We have most of our lights and lamps plugged into them and synced with Amazon Alexa for some really convenient smart home features. Setting them up is super easy, and they’ve made controlling our lights a breeze—whether it’s through voice commands or the app. Every once in a while, we’ve had some trouble with syncing between the Kasa app and Alexa, but with a little patience, I’ve always been able to get them working again. It’s a small hiccup, and the overall functionality is still worth it. If you're looking to upgrade the smart features of your home, these plugs are a fantastic purchase. They’re affordable, reliable, and a great addition to any smart home setup! ... show more

  • Easy to Use
Style: Smart plug Size: 2-Pack
Been using these for a couple years now. Think I got my first ones as an office White Elephant gift. Now I have the plus, lighting strips, and the smart switches. App works really well for scheduling but I typically just control everything through the Google Home App. These are easy to set up and control as well as move around and reuse in other areas. They are bulky so can be hard to get them plugged in if you don't have a stand walk plug. All in all they work great for lamps, appliances, anything that you want to power directly and turn smart. ... show more
