  • Different, but pleasantly surprised
Color: Ash Super Combo
Arrived in a single box, guitar shaped, using the bag as a support for the neck. Accessories were packed in a single bag in another area in the box. Upon initial review, it has a surprising amount of sustain and sound. I am a local luthier in my region, (SE Tennessee), repairing and restoring about 2-4 guitars a week. I collect off-name guitars as a hobby, when I can afford it. I saw the Kadence and thought I'd try it. The Kadence Acoustica is a great value for a beginner. IT DOES NEED A SIMPLE SETUP, at least mine does. The neck was almost bone straight, which is fabulous. There was no fret sprout. Frets seem level for the money. But the saddle, which is plastic, was way too high. This is a simple fix which most owners can do. Simply loosen the strings so you can pull the pins on the saddle and remove the strings from that area. Sand the BOTTOM of the saddle so it sits lower in the groove. Be careful not to go too much, but you can see with your eye how much. You need what is called a break point for the strings to climb over before being held by the pins, while still keeping the action low as possible. Go SLOW, you get one chance to make it right. That is about it, at least the one I received. Tuners, OK. Not the best, but it tuned up well, fairly smoothly, with no excess play or grinding in the tuners. Electronics are cheap, but they work, and I was able to tune just fine with a fresh battery. Strings are cheap, but this is one of those guitars that demands Extra Lights. Don't try to make it louder with Lights or Mediums. The Ash top is interesting. A veneer, not swamp ash, but cut like veneer, where they rotate the log and take a thin slice off as it goes around. Instead of all the growth rings showing, you get a different look. I would have never selected Ash, (forget Swamp ash, it is not), but the resonance is surprising. I like it! My guitar has walnut for back and sides, and has five ply binding on the front, and single ply binding on the back. The saddle is held with glue and two screws, should hold forever. This is a bargain and sounds great. I know the reviews in 2023 hit this hard, and having lived in China years ago, I think they changed factories and now produce a decent product. Highly recommended for beginners, fireside plays, and even maybe as a backup for a small band if you can get the electronics to blend. For this money, just buy it. ... show more

  • Kadence A05 - Beautiful finish; decent sound - about what you'd expect for a $119 guitar.
Color: Zebra Wood
I'll be honest: I bought this guitar on a whim almost solely because of the gorgeous zebrawood finish and it did not disappoint. Sure, it's still a laminate with a very thin veneer, but at least it's not a printed picture top. For the most part the fit and finish is good with just a few minor blemishes. The fretwork was fine and the neck is thin, making it very easy to play. The electronics seem to work fine. Out of the box, it had horrible fret buzzing, but that was easily corrected by giving the neck a fair amount of relief (with the included Allen key) The factory strings are very cheap, so I replaced them. While I had the strings off, I polished the frets and conditioned the very dry fretboard. Once I got it tuned up, I tested it out. Overall, the sound is good, but nothing amazing. It doesn't have much sustain or bottom end. This seems better suited for fingerstyle play, but even then the notes don't ring out the way you'd like them to on an acoustic guitar. Again - is it terrible? No, it's about what you'd expect from a laminated $119 guitar on Amazon. It does come with a decent padded gig bag, which is nice. This would be a great beginner guitar, after minor adjustments. The finish is stunning and if that makes you pick it up to play then that's something. Please note that ALL guitars need some sort of adjustment. That's just part of owning a guitar. There are a lot of great videos online that teach you how to do a basic setup. Just because you get fret buzzing doesn't mean the guitar is bad - it just needs to be adjusted. Wood changes with temperature and humidity. If you don't feel comfortable adjusting your guitar, find a friend who can do it for you. This is a good instrument at a good price. Let's Music! ... show more

  • This guitar sounds good!
Color: Ash Wood
I was amazed by the sound quality from such an inexpensive guitar. I think it's beautiful also. I took it out of the box and tuned it. I used my clip-on tuner to verify the accuracy of the built in tuner. The built in tuner worked well but the notes on it are quite small. If you're old and poor of eyesight like me, you might be better off using a clip-on with a larger display. You need to purchase a 9-volt battery for the electronics as it doesn't come with one. I've been playing quite a while, but I consider myself somewhere between a beginner and intermediate player. I really like this guitar and would encourage anyone who plays or wants to learn to purchase it. ... show more

  • Cheap and .... cheerful?
Color: Ash Wood
Guitar is good for the price however... It is a throw away guitar. Meaning it is for a beginner. The frets are too high, the action isn't bad but the nut is plastic, the strings (which obviously you can replace) are high Guage which means tension for tuning and hard on beginner hands. The tuning pegs are the sticking point for purchase. They simply don't hold in tune for any length of time! They may be better with lighter strings, but it is not good. The electronics aren't bad, not good but not bad for $100. Summary Even for a beginner I would look at maybe an Orange (brand name) guitar at this price point. Because once you make any kind of progress you will want to burn this guitar. And, a beginner doesn't want to buy a guitar and then refit upgrade everything on it. ... show more
