  • Amazing paddle
Size: 16mm
Worth every penny. Accurate, forgiving, powerful. My shots were better using this paddle by my fourth game, there is a learning curve.

After over 30 hours of play, I feel this is a top-level paddle. It is one of my favorite paddles I have used. This paddle provides a nice amount of power to this consistent 3rd shot dropping, control player, with a (currently inflated) DUPR of 5.536. It does require more concentration to add the higher level of consistency. On my topspin serve return, I have been able to hit my returns deep more consistently. I have found my performance in hand battles feels quicker. I would attribute this to the thinner 14mm paddle. I have been able to open to my forehand quicker and it has not sacrificed the more solid feel of a 16mm. On touch shots, I find myself top spin rolling or undercut slicing more to keep the ball on the paddle surface longer so I get more control. It does not catch / cushion the ball as dramatically as less powerful paddles, but it is not a rock / board without touch. The surface grabs and creates noticeable spin. The sounds when hitting a ball is a little more muted and less crisp. There are opponents who have expressed their feelings about the different sound so you get to hear about that. The sweet spot is smaller. When I hit the ball towards the edges of the paddle there is a difference. In play where the ball is being returned faster or with more spin, I do myself being forced to play more focused to hit the center of the paddle as it is less forgiving toward the edges. There is a stigma socially amongst the best players around with having this paddle. I won a firefight hand battle at the kitchen line against one highest caliber players in the area and one of the other players made the statement that it was the paddle. When I later asked the high caliber player why he did not get one of these paddles, he stated that he felt if he got one then everyone in the group would have to get one because of the advantage it creates. So that is part of owning this paddle right now. ... show more

  • Overrated and definitely not worth it.
Size: 16mm
I play a ton of pickleball and have many paddles. This one is certainly not worth the price. First at this price point you'd think you would get a cover but not from Joola lol. Second, the customer service is absolutely horrible. My paddles nfc wasn't working. Tried calling their customer service number but you can only leave a voicemail. Then I sent an email and got an automated response days later with no solution and no follow up since. Ended up just returning this paddle. For anyone that's reading this review and in the market for a paddle trust me on this and by a crbn paddle. They are so much better than this paddle slightly less expensive and you get a cover. Oh and their customer service is top notch. ... show more

  • With great power, comes great responsibility
Size: 16mm
I've been playing pickleball now for about 7 years. My mixed DUPR rating is 4.8. Women's double is about 4.4. I'm not much of a singles player. I'm a 40's female. My main paddle is a Holbrook Power Pro, and I am partly sponsored by them. However, in the past, I have played with several original Joola Hyperions (Ben Johns and Simone Jardine). I've also played with Vatic Pros, and Paddletek. My style of play is mostly defensive. I'm a defensive specialist, and I pair up well with offensive players in doubles. Why is all that important to this review? Here's why: I've been playing with this paddle on and off for the past month. I've used it in a few doubles sessions, and one singles session against a male player. What I've learned is that this paddle is really meant for an offensive player. Not just offensive, but you need to be near pro level to really drive this paddle. The power is noticeable, and more so than my Holbrook Power Pro. But, it's not dramatic. When I first got this paddle, I was expecting an absolute cannon, but it's much more subdued than that. Maybe the Gen 3 paddle, with it's thinner and tighter core would be that cannon. The Perseus is redesigned such that they traded power for durability. And, that's ok with me. The bigger issue is that this added power makes it difficult for a player like me to control when dinking in the kitchen. So, like I said, I'm a defensive player. And, my style of play is better suited to control paddles as opposed to power paddles. It's not to say that you can't have great control with this paddle. There is a lot of friction on the surface. But, for me, when dinking in the kitchen, or trying to pop up smashes, I often find myself not decompensating enough for the added power. And, that leads me to hit balls out of bounds or not where I want them to be. I guess I need to get used to the power. But, in reality, it's just meant for a pro. And, really, when you watch pros in the PPA, where this paddle is approved, that's pretty much all they do: smash balls and play aggressive offense. That's where this paddle shines, and where I'm struggling with this paddle. Which brings me to my final point. As everyone has mentioned, this paddle is only approved for the PPA tournaments (where all the pros and high level players play), and not the USAPA, where I and most amateurs play. And, it's because of this, I can't really recommend this paddle if your DUPR rating isn't at least 5.0+. I would say even that your singles rating needs to be at the very least 4.5+ for this paddle to make any sense. Otherwise, it will be relegated to the one off use at rec play or local tourneys, or even worse, it will make your game so inconsistent, you'll be struggling with your rhythm. However, I still plan on keeping this paddle, because as I grow as a player, I want to become an all-a-rounder, as opposed to a defense specialist. And, I think this paddle will help me get there. ... show more

  • Top notch pickleball paddle
Size: 16mm
My wife is really into pickleball all of a sudden and she's coaxed me into joining her and now I really enjoy it. I've been trying to find the 'right' paddle for me and that has required a lot of 'trial and error'. You can read about them, try them out in a store but until you actually play with it you can't tell if it'll work for you. My task is further complicated by by the fact that I'm still trying to figure out the qualities I want and what works best for me. So what do I like about this paddle? It's very well made and since I was looking for one that provided a more rigid feel than the others I've tried that's important. I don't know how much the 'propulsion core' has to do with it, but it does provide excellent control. I think that's the strength of my game and this paddle definitely allows me to leverage that. Obviously, like any equipment for any sport much comes down to personal preference and 'feel'. If you're on the hunt for a new paddle this one is definitely worthy of consideration. Highly recommended! ... show more
