  • A Simple Solution to an overthinking problem

When architects are too ignorant to realize that if they design their buildings with two-pronged lightbulb sockets without checking to see if replacement bulbs are even available to be purchased at Lowes, Walmart, Home Despot, or any other convenient merchant, then we who moved into their buildings are totally screwed when a bulb blows. These converters are cheap, sturdy, and do the job. I suggest that if you have the insanely stupid two-pronged lightbulb sockets, that you buy a handful of these before you need them, so that you can use the screw-in bulbs available everywhere. ... show more

  • So glad I found these!

Moved into an apartment complex that has these prong thingys where the light bulbs go. Never seen them before in my life, go to Lowe’s to see what I can find and left empty handed picturing what it will be like living by candlelight for the next year because who in the income based apartment world can afford 6.00+ for a damn light bulb. Thinking I might just move, and tell ppl it wasn’t because of the lightbulbs, I first googled these 2 prong monstrosities and found I was not alone! A guy in my same boat posted a link to Amazon selling these genius nuggets. Sure my apartment will be the only one without fire resistant lightbulbs, but I won’t have to burn candles now so who’s really winning? On a serious note i do want to address that because these are an attachment, they do extend the bulb from whatever fixture you put it in for example in my bathroom I have open bottom globes above my mirror and they hang down lower than normal but it’s not noticeable or a hazard. However if you have say a enclosed globe or a ceiling fan with a bowl fixture where the bulbs sit horizontal in a circle they not fit or will touch the fixture itself which i imagine would be a fire hazard so for enclosed fixtures bite the bullet and put those boujii 6$ bulbs in there. Everywhere else these work great ... show more

They fit standard light bulbs, I live in an apartment complex that use pronged light bulbs which are expensive and they expect us to pay for them when they burn out, so I looked for a product that would convert them to regular bulbs and came across this product. It works great and I have even shared some with family and friends. ... show more

  • I wish I thought of these years ago

Our apartment came with several of these terrible GU24 ceiling fixtures. I spent several years paying $7 per battery only finding them in certain stores as they are uncommon - until I had the good sense to look up adapters on amazon. For the price of basically 1-2 GU24 bulbs, you can buy a set of adapters like this one and go back to using <$1 screw-in CFLs that you can get everywhere. I think the idea behind GU24 was efficiency, as wasteful incandescent bulbs would not work on the GU24 base, and I'm pretty sure these fixtures are in my house to meet some sort of energy/efficiency standard, but it seems to have been a failed venture overall - the GU24 bulbs are several times more costly than the screw-in CFL equivalent, there is a tiny fraction of available bulb types (different wattages, LEDs, etc that are MUCH easier to find with the standard base) and good luck finding even one or two options in most stores. Notes on the adapter: These are a simple design, no moving parts so I imagine unless a dying bulb shorts or heats up the adapter it won't break. The adapter is small and only effectively adds only about 1.5cm of length to whatever bulb you're using - so if you have a tight fit in your light fixture be aware, it's not a big difference in size but you may have to use it with a shorter bulb. I bought enough to convert every single fixture in my place. Sure, I could try putting in an incandescent but who buys those anymore? I'm happy that I'll be able to use normal CFLs or special types like LED without paying a huge premium for that dreadful GU24 base! ... show more
