  • The Best Bluetooth Remote Thermometer Gets Better Yet
I first became a huge fan of Inkbird’s products a few years ago when they were not yet well known in the U.S. For three years I have been using their superb IBT-4XS Bluetooth thermometer and it is working flawlessly. Of the several remote thermometers I own, I always reach for the Inkbird because of its rock solid reliability paired with BBQ GO, the easiest to use phone APP. Is this newly released IBT-4XC worth an additional $15? Read on to learn more. WHAT’S DIFFERENT IN THE NEW IBT-4XC? The main difference is waterproofing, meeting an impressive Ipx5 standard. We live in the Southeast known for tremendous thunderstorms from spring thru fall. This type of remote thermometer is really geared toward low ‘n slow cooks for great “Q” such as pulled pork or brisket. For pulled pork, an overnight cook may be typical while you try to get some sleep. With the older IBT-4XS, I wrapped the unit in a plastic Ziploc bag and sealed it tightly, still allowing the usefulbuilt in magnet to stick to the grill. With this IBT-4XC, no need for extra protection. The two designs are nearly identical save for the waterproofed power and cycle button now being placed mire convienently on the front of the IBT-4XC. WHAT’S THE SAME IN THE NEW IBT-4XC VS. IBT-4XS? 1) The Bluetooth range is amazing and has never failed me. In three years, IBT-4XS has never lost its connection even from considerable distances away. This eliminates the need for less reliable WIFI, unless you are determined to monitor your pit’s progress from miles away. 2) The display on the base unit is bigger and does not wash out in sunlight as easily as many other thermometers on the market. 3) The IBT-4XC and the IBT-4XS share the same FANTASTIC app for your phone, BBQ-GO. It’s a simple task to pair or unpair either thermometer. The app is fully customizable and is mostly terrific. Custom settings are all retained for future cooks. The one area where the app lacks is its only average graphing capabilities. If you desire more complex graphing, and are willing to pay more for WIFI, I also recommend Inkbird’s WIFI remote thermometer, the IBBQ-4T. However, although it has better graphing, the phone APP for the IBBQ-4T is not quite as intuitive to use, in my opinion. 4) Accuracy. I’ve used and reviewed three Inkbird remote thermometers and all are very accurate in comparison to my Thermoworks, known as the Rolls Royce of instant–read thermometers accuracy. (By the way, Inkbird’s waterproof instant read thermometer IHT-IP is reliablely accurate, too.) 5) Built in magnets to stick base unit to the grill. 6) Built in USB rechargeable battery. At first, I was not so sure I like or wanted this feature. Now that I’ve used it for three years, I do find it tremendously useful. The battery takes two hours to fully charge with the included USB cable. So with some planning ahead, it’s not difficult to have the battery fully charged before an all night cook. Once charged, its battery life is incredible. In eight hours of continuous use, the rechargeable battery still has 95% capacity. 7) A good overall probe design. The IBT-4XC and IBT-4XS take the easy to use probes. I hope in the future, Inkird makes this color coded, just like it smartly has done with the probes for the IBBQ-4T. 8) With four included probes, and four probe ports, either of these model is likely the best choice for most users. Many grills these days come with one or two WIFI probes. Yet folks like me need at least three ports: one for the temp inside the pit, and two more for different pieces of meat. For example, if you are going to bother to cook pork butt for hours, why not do two and vac seal the leftovers? By the way, vac sealed pulled pork out of the freezer tastes exactly like it did fresh off the smoker! 9) The display is rotatable in case the probe wires get in the way when attached to your grill. Also relating to the base unit, it’s easy to insert the plug and not realize if it’s not fully in. If you get an inaccurate reading, it’s likely you need an extra push to be sure the plug fully clicks in. Otherwise, the unit is very user friendly, and well designed. DO YOU NEED TO UPGRADE? This new model is $15 more and absolutely worth the cost if you live in a rainy or unpredictable climate. If your grill area is fully covered, and wind won’t get the unit wet, you’ll be fine with the original IBT-4XS. PROBE CARE: NOTE that no probe wire is fully waterproof. You just need to be careful when cleaning. When washing, you can get any area of the probe wet--just don’t run the joint where the probes meets the water under water. Instead scrub with your sponge and run a paper towel over it to complete the cleaning at the wire joint. SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE IMPROVEMENT: 1) Color coding. Both the plug end that sticks into the base unit, and the probe end need color coding ability to match the six color choices in the excellent BBQ-GO app. I’ve been working around this with colored masking tape that works fine. 2) Cord wrap system. This would work perfectly with color coding ability. However, neither of these user-convenience suggestions are deal breakers. 3) Please don’t make major changes to the app, Inkbird. Love it! CONCLUSION: Having now upgraded, I believe my new IBT-4XC is the best remote of its kind on the market. The IBT-4XC hits the perfect sweet spot—just the right number of probes (4) for most users, an intuitive app to monitor temps and customize settings, and an easy to view, charge, and use base unit. Plus waterproofing. The Inkbird IBT-4XC is the best Bluetooth thermometer on the market I have yet seen and highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Great product for a great price.
I own two pellet smokers, a Recteq Bull 700 and the bullseye 380. I got it so I could calibrate my bullseye's ambient temp and now find myself using the inkbird more over the recteq supplied probes for the bullseye. I occasionally use it on the 700 but since the 700's probes are already wifi, I oy use the inkbird I'm conjunction when I have a lot of food on. Overall , the inkbird is excellent. the alarms are loud and menus are easy to navigate. Water proof so It can be used in the rain and magnetic so you can attach it on the side of the smoker. Wifi connection works well but once you leave the house there is no way to monitor temps. It doesn't connect to the home wifi (which would allow you to monitor it from anywhere), it's a direct connection to the phone. The screen is hard to read in daylight but you can see it upclose. And the battery life lasts forever! Easy to charge as well. Great product ... show more

  • works well
I like the ease of use and the fact that you can use multiple probes at the same time. Sometimes the range of Bluetooth is less than desirable or I would have given it a 5

  • Inkbird makes great products, HANDS DOWN!
Thermometer was fully charged out of the box which is nice,I used this for 8 hrs and the battery life was at 80% when I finished. overall construction is very well built and holds up well as I dropped it a few times from about 2’. The Bluetooth feature works very well and never skips or pauses, gives you live info constantly. The App that you download is very simple to navigate and has multiple settings for meat and time. Temp probes are accurate and stay in place while cooking. Easy to read magnetic box/screen is nice because you can stick it right to your grill (non hot area). This is my new go to thermometer for sure. ... show more

  • Works great
Just for transparency, I got this unit free in exchange for a review. However I've been impressed with Inkbird's products in the past, so was willing to give this a try. Needed a new meat probe anyway. Temperature appears to be accurate. I set it to medium rare for a steak (130F) and the steak did cook to a medium rare. There was no discernible lag between the probe and the app. Temperature reads rather quickly as well when you insert the probe. It's got several useful features, such as allowing a timer so you can remind yourself when to flip burgers or whatever you want. My one annoyance (which can be fixed) is that by default, if you turn off the probe manually, it'll trigger a loud/annoying alarm on your phone within a few seconds. I fixed it by disabling the disconnect alarm. I've also mentioned this to an Inkbird rep and I hope they'll do something about that. Overall it's a solid product. Haven't had it long but for the few meals I've cooked with it, it's worked great. In terms of longevity, I'm confident in their products - I have a sous vide from them as well which has performed fantastically for 8 months while cooking with it nearly every day. ... show more

  • Just Right, easy setup
I love Inkbird products, I have their instant read thermometer and BT 6 channel, but this one is just right! The 4 channels is plenty for all of my cooks and the waterproof feature lets me feel at ease leaving it out on my smoker all summer. The BBQ Go is a snap to setup and I was up and running in just a few minutes on my Android Phone and Tablet. The app could use a little refinement, hopefully they update it soon. The preset temps are difficult to adjust, but it's easy to just add a custom preset with your desired temp(s). The app is a little easy to accidentally exit by hitting the Android Back button. You can only have one thermometer paired with your phone or tablet at once. To switch between units, you have to delete your current pairing, not a big deal, I think I've settled on using this one full time. Otherwise the hardware is excellent. I use one channel for my grill grate temperature as it comes with a couple of handy grill grate probe holders. You can set a high/low window for monitoring grate temp. The remaining 3 channels are for my meats. You can set the target temps here. ... show more
