  • As good, if not better, than my $400 board.
I don’t actually have a board-hire business in Montenegro, but I could start one! Over the past five years, we have bought eight or nine SUPs (Stand Up Paddleboards) some of which we have passed on. So, I now feel qualified to write objective, comparative reviews on my last few boards. The last one to arrive, was just tested today, so I’ll start with it. It has one of those somewhat strange names that Chinese firms pluck out of the sky – a BigFly. (?!) Perhaps it loses something in translation! However, that slightly negative observation is the only negative comment I have about this board. Everything else is strongly positive. Coincidentally, it arrived from Amazon last week on exactly the same delivery as another board from a different vendor. Kudos to Amazon for their packing – perfect, compared to that from the other vendor (nameless) which was abysmal! (Unfortunately, on its trip from Louisiana to Montenegro over the weekend, my bag was damaged, so I did lose a few accessories. My comments on them were based on my initial unpacking in Louisiana.) All of our boards have been fun, even the cheapest ones, but certainly, if you pay a little more you will soon appreciate the better designs and features – some of which are not obvious. I have not bought any of the most expensive, but have tried them and it is certainly a case of diminishing returns – I really do not see any significant differences between a $300 board and a $750 model. Perhaps if they are specialized for racing or surfing, that might justify the extra, but we only use them for fun. The more family members, or guests who can use them at the same time, the more fun you will have, hence the reason we have so many. Getting back to the BigFly SUP, after I had put about six boards into my “Possibles” list, I chose this one because it was the lightest colour! That’s not as crazy as it sounds – it gets very hot here in Montenegro in July and August and lighter colours stay much cooler. Conversely, if you live in Scotland, buy any colour you want! For brevity, here is a list of my positive observations: 1. Lightweight. Apart from one very early 4-inch board, we have found that our lightweight boards have stood up to rocky sea-caves and pebble-beaches as well as our heavier boards. But, they are much easier to carry. This board has a particularly well-padded handle, making it even easier. Although it is lightweight, it seems to be a high-quality construction, with precise welding of all its layers. (Drop stitch boards have to withstand much higher stresses that other inflatable items, so I think quality in construction is important.) 2. Locking-clip fin. We have several boards that are secured by a screw and sliding flat-nut. No matter how careful you are, you WILL lose either the nut or screw! (Fortunately, Amazon now sells a set of six replacement nut/screws for about a buck each. If your board has this type of fin, get a set because you WILL lose either the screw or the nut!) I have found the clip type of fin to be much better, and recommend it strongly. I eliminated some boards from my list because of this difference alone. 3. Board profile. This is definitely a feature we have come to appreciate among our many boards. At the one extreme, we have a Go-Plus board, the same length as this one (11 foot) which is very fast and tracks absolutely straight – in fact, that is all it does – tracks straight. it will not turn! I think it is because the sides of the board have no curve, so when you try to turn it, you have to push water aside. As I found out today, this board turns very easily and I think it is because the curved edges, in both the horizontal and vertical planes, allow the water to flow away. It is nicely sensitive to foot position – If you stand level with, or even slightly forward of the handle, it tracks very straight, whereas, stand a little aft of the handle and it’s a joy to handle. Throw in a back stroke and you can almost spin it in its length. (There are techniques for even tighter turns, but the water here at Kotor is not yet warm enough for me to try them today!) This was my first time on an SUP since last September, but I immediately felt confident and comfortable. This was definitely helped by the bigger than usual non-slip deck. 4. Accessories: It comes with all the usual accessories, most of which I never use. I suppose if you were to use it for surfing, the ankle-leash may be useful, But I think it just gets in the way. And why would you want to take your smartphone on an SUP? (Photographs perhaps.) Anyway, both of these are the best quality I had seen – there is a difference. (Past tense because lost in transit!) 5. Paddle. It floats! That is a big plus here in Montenegro where paddles are very expensive. Ask me how I know! No, don’t – it hurts. 6. Backpack. Equal best quality I have seen – equal to DAMA boards. Some bags are only single thickness and wear/degrade quickly because of UV exposure. Obviously, I cannot comment on the UV resistance of the BigFly bag yet, but its construction seems very good, with an outer very tough Cordura-type fabric and an inner, probably nylon-based, liner. If it is the same as the DAMA bags, they show no wear after three years. (This strong bag may well have saved my new board from damage in transit) 7. Double action pump. Don’t underestimate the advantages of a double action pump. Not only will it inflate faster but just as important is the vacuum function to fully deflate the board, making it much easier to pack. Without this, you will spend quite some time trying to get all the air out. If you leave your board inflated all year, this is not a problem, but if you pack and go, make sure you get a double-action pump. Final verdict – a really good board. Better in fact, than my previous favourite that was more than $400. It will be extensively used in the next few months, so I will add any significant observations as necessary. I will also post reviews on my other new boards – a hybrid windsurfer/SUP and hybrid kayak/SUP. (Sorry this is so long!) ... show more

  • the BEST you will find at this price!
I LOVE this SUP board! I put a lot of research into this purchase--it seemed to be the least expensive board that I could find that didn't have concerning reviews, and I am so pleased with the quality. The backpack case fits all of the accessories with room to spare for other items, and is comfortable to wear despite it's weight. The board takes no more than 10 minutes to inflate manually, and is surprisingly light. I am 5'1 and relatively fit, and I was able to go up and down about 200 steps to and from the beach with the whole pack on my back. It is also easy to carry overhead or at your side while inflated. Clean up is easy--I recommend keeping a towel nearby to wipe off the board as you deflate and fold it. There are plenty of straps in the backpack to keep things in place. Once in the water, the board is very sturdy! It sits in the water nicely, and I have used it on the gentle waves of the Long Island Sound, as well as a placid creek. The top of the board has a nice grip to it so you won't slip, bungee chords to hold down a water bottle, and D rings should you choose to attach a seat (not included). The adjustable paddle works great, but you may need to twist the clamp around a few times in order to get it tight enough to stay put! You can easily fit a second person on the board so long as you are within the recommended weight. I am so happy I purchased this board! It has brought so much joy into my summer, and I can't wait to use it again next year! ALWAYS WEAR A US COAST GUARD APPROVED LIFE JACKET! ... show more

  • Do it, Do it now!
A little background. I am from Florida, grew up in the springs, surfing the east coast, etc. you could easily call me a waterman or creekboy. I say this because over the years I have had many surfboards, longboards and had a solid SUP for a bit when they first got popular. I have wanted an inflatable SUP forever, didn't want to pay more than $200 and there are myriads of options and offerings available. After careful shopping, consideration and reading reviews - I don't believe you could beat this SUP for the money or even another hundred bucks. Sturdy, well thought out, stable and just cool. I was concerned it was too cheap, but do it, do it now. Just order it you will not be disappointed. I live near St. George Island on the Gulf side of the state and use this in Wakulla Springs river, the Wacissa and the beaches! Good times... ... show more

  • Great for price but loose fin
Great, lightweight easy to fill. However the fin fell off within the first 5 mins making it difficult to steer. Now I have to buy a replacement. May have been wrongly put on which is my fault. Overall great board for the price.

  • Great Value with lots of extras
Very sturdy; came with nice quality carry case, pump, sturdy paddle. Bonus, was dry case for my cell phone. I rolled the boat back up and it fit great back in the bag. The bag has zipper that zips all the way down ,making it easy to get the boat back in. Has only one large fin, not 3 fins as the pictures shows. ... show more

  • More stable than our expensive wooden paddle board
This is my first time trying an inflatable paddle board, and my husband was very skeptical. However it is wider and more stable than my wooden one (that cost $1000 over ten years ago) making it perfect for two people. It was easy to set up, and so light to carry. After having it a couple weeks my husband said to order three more! Two for the lake here, and two for our boat on the inter coastal. ... show more

  • Good quality board
My wife spend a lot of time researching inflatable paddle boards and decided on this one based on reviews and price. She has been using it almost daily for a month and it has been great. We had one issue after several weeks with the pump hose breaking. I contacted the seller and they immediately ship us a replacement. I would recommend this board to anyone it is stable, easy to paddle and durable. ... show more

  • Great price, package, product!
So this is easily as good, if not better quality than the name brand SUPs I had looked at. The design is great too! I’m 5’7”, 140lbs and have a wiggly 70lb kid on it with me and felt very sturdy! I have had some BAD paddle boarding experiences in the past but this paddle board made our time on the water very enjoyable. Thanks for the great product!! ... show more
