  • Great Product, Better Customer Service (Seriously)
Style: Wi-Fi Biometric Lock Color: Black
TLDR: Have this lock. Recommending this lock. 6 months’ use = 90% battery remaining. Features are great. App(s) is/are fine. Our WiFi Gateway stopped working about 5 months in. Customer Service for Hornbill was quick and kind. 5 stars for Nancy and Molly - they replaced it directly to me in the mail, no fuss (aside from troubleshooting with me first, which is standard and also appreciated). Works great again. NLEDWRM (Not Long Enough Definitely Wanna Read More): Got this lock for our front door, and while we did unfortunately have to make a couple of minor adjustments to the wood in the door due to the style of lock we had and it’s age, it was otherwise a pretty direct installation process. The app situation is a tiny bit weird, but only because 1. Some of the translations to English aren’t grammatically correct, but that’s no biggie - we have common sense at our disposal, but 2. Because there are two apps that are the same thing: “Next Lock” and “TTLock”. Literally, one just has a red interface and one is blue. I haven’t discerned what the difference is, or if there even is one, but I haven’t put too much time into resolving that question to be fair. Still, those are the only concerns I have/had. The lock itself has several options to use for entry, including my main concern - a physical turn key in case the lock goes kaput or we forget to replace the dead battery in time. As of the time of this writing, we’ve had the battery up and running exactly 6 months to the day, and the battery level shows (in the app) 90%, so I’m feeling good about it’s longevity. Not sure yet if the app will alert the user to a low battery status, but I’m hoping it will at that time. Also, love not getting a million notifications. In fact, because I’ve elected to turn them off, I don’t get any unless I manually go in and turn on notifications for any particular use, but the app still keeps records of the uses, so it’s super great for if we need to see that. (We’re a “no secrets” kinda couple here, so the records don’t bother us. They’re accessible to any signed-in users, so if you don’t want someone in your household to know when you’re coming and going, buyer beware.) Tiny caveat for creating Guest Codes (unless I’m doing it wrong, which is always possible): The app must first generate a random code for you, which is fine, but if you want a personalized code to provide someone with, you can’t change the random one until you first use it within the 24 hours after it’s created. Only once it’s been used first (and therefore authorized/validated) can you change it. If you’re not physically at home to do so, then your guest will need to use the random code (which you can then remotely change for them after they input it if you’re unbothered by that minor hassle/extra bit of communication). The fingerprint scanner works perfectly. I’d recommend you just be sure to make a scan for each of all 10 fingers (or more or less depending - no discrimination here unless you’re Count Rugen. Then you get ALL of the discrimination on behalf of Inigo Montoya). I know we’re all wary of sharing our biometric data around, but they’re not giving your fingerprint scans to other users/locks, and I’m honestly not too stressed about being cloned or duplicated based off of their internal records of my fingerprint scans, so like, calm down a bit maybe, friends. Recommending all 10 fingers because in those rare but likely moments where your hands are full or you’ve got some sort of gunk or liquid on your fingertips, being able to open your door with your non-dominant hand’s pinky finger to save your sanity is a real game changer, honestly. You’ve got 250 scans to work with - use some of them. Using any sort of voice control may prove differently with Google, Siri, etc., but my experience for this is with Amazon Alexa. Yes, you can verbally ask Alexa to lock or unlock your door, but it isn’t just the one question you have to say out loud - it requires a verbal code you have to tell Alexa, for security purposes. I totally understand and can appreciate that, but honestly, that’s a bit of a hassle, and I don’t like having a private code spoken out loud - not for Alexa hearing it, but for neighbors or visitors hearing it. Not a fan of that. However, I *did* figure out a bit of a workaround - create a “Routine” for Alexa. Make one of the actions locking/unlocking the door, and give the routine a phrase, like something similar to but not specifically, “Alexa, lock the front door.” Try something like, “Alexa, batten down the hatches!” to lock it, or, “Alexa, release the Kraken” to unlock it. (***Also highly recommend for Frozen lovers: “Alexa, I think it’s crazy, we finish each others’…” and then you can program her to respond with, “Sandwiches.” Because love is an open door. She unlocks the door then. …Look, it’s clever and it’s cute, okay? Just roll with it. Create the routine regardless so you have the option in the background if you ever feel like you want to experience joy for the first time in your life, probably.***) The point is, if you program locking/unlocking the door into a routine, it’ll automatically do it without requiring a verbal passcode, too. Our “Goodnight” routine includes turning off lights etc., and locking the door. Works great! I know having a physical key is an ick factor when the whole purpose of this type of lock is to NOT have some extra jingle to your jangle (of keys), but I’d also recommend having that spare key hidden somewhere, just in case. You never know. Our door is covered entirely in a stairwell, so we don’t have the concern about rain/water affecting this electronic device. That being said though, based on its design, I wouldn’t be too worried about it. It’s sealed up pretty well, with the openings and whatnot being on the inside half, not the outside. Should be good to go for water worlds, but I couldn’t tell you for certain from direct experience, so maybe look into that if you’re considering other options, or even this one. Finally for the product itself, I only had one issue, but I don’t know whether or not it will be a repeat issue or if it was just a one-time fluke, so keep that in mind. The WiFi Gateway that comes with it - the tiny USB-C powered device that connects the lock to the internet so you can control it remotely or assign codes remotely, etc. - it just suddenly died on us, somewhere between 4-5 months after installation. We had it connected directly to our modem/router (for a power source only - it’s not Ethernet-connected or anything), and one day, it wasn’t working anymore. Tried different cables, different power sources, different locations in the home, etc., but to no avail. It simply didn’t work at all anymore. I took a few pictures of it (specifically including the information on the back), and then emailed those photos plus my Amazon order information and mailing address/contact info to the Hornbill Customer Service team (Support@HornbillLock.com). I requested a replacement Gateway, since I’ve had it less than a year (less than 6 months, actually), and offered to return the dud one back to them if they’d send a pre-paid label or envelope with the replacement. First response came from “Molly,” who instantly advised me that if it was really not working anymore, that they’d be happy to send me a replacement, no worries. However, as with any good Customer Service, some troubleshooting was provided, and it was requested I try those things first, and respond back with the results. No biggie - even though I’d already noted in my original email that I’d exhausted all possible troubleshooting (because most of the troubleshooting required the device actually having power, which it didn’t), I responded back with the failed results. Another agent, “Nancy,” responded back with some more troubleshooting requests (of the same nature, but again, no sweat), but also with a request for my mailing info. I responded again with the failed troubleshooting results and my shipping address, and within a few short days, a brand new WiFi Gateway arrived on my doorstep. It’s desperately easy to set up, and I simply deleted the previous one from my app account afterwards. No return labels or envelopes were included, so they didn’t even require me to return the dud one. The process was fast, clear, professional, and kind. I do wish that final email hadn’t come with a request for a good review, but I certainly DO appreciate that it was only a *request,* and not a demand, like I’ve seen some companies do as a pseudo hostage situation where they won’t help you unless you write a 5-star review for them, honest or not. This was a plea for a positive review to be shown to their manager(s), and honestly, I understand that. I’ve worked in Customer Service. I’ve had managers. Getting complaints is common, but getting compliments is rare, no matter what line of work you’re in. There was no abrasiveness to the request, and so I gladly write this review. No muss, no fuss, no rudeness, and no confusion. The process was fast. The agents were great. The product is exactly what I wanted and needed. Any product’s review can be tainted by a bad experience with its company’s customer service, but Hornbill’s agents, especially Nancy, are a credit to them. Something as small and as quick as this one was to them meant a great deal to me - not stressing about waiting for a response, or not understanding due to a language barrier, or panicking that money was wasted on a bad product? All of those worries went out the window, and didn’t even have a chance to occur, really. All because of one small quick interaction. That’s so so important to me as a consumer. Fantastic work on Hornbill’s side. So yes, I recommend this product, but based on my experience, I also highly recommend this company. ... show more

  • Good lock, great customer service
Style: Wi-Fi Biometric Lock Color: Black
We bought this lock earlier this year. The lock works great with different options to use (fingerprint, key pad, fobs key). The app is great in creating access codes for multiple people. The batteries lasted us about 6 months. When we went to change the batteries, we kept getting a notification that battery was low after only days. We reached out to Hornbill customer support and received help from Nancy. Nancy tried to problem solve the issue with us and after a few attempts, we were sent a new lock. The new lock is again working great and we hope that when it comes time to replace batteries, it will be all good. I rate their customer service 100%. Really great! ... show more

  • Challenging to install
Style: Wi-Fi Biometric Lock Color: Silver
This is a decent lock for the money. Installing it was a challenge. It took me a couple attempts before I got it set right in working. But once we got it set up, it’s been a good lock. It will go through batteries quickly. I’ve had to change the batteries three times since August and it’s not used a great deal. The app is nice. The fingerprint touch is a good feature. And for short term guests it’s great to be able to program their own combination that expires when it’s time for them to go. ... show more

  • Great Lock
Style: Wi-Fi Biometric Lock Color: Silver
I ordered this lock for my front door and liked it so much I ordered another one (all black) for the back door. It was easy to install and both are working great. The Next Lock app is good too. I don't use the fingerprint option because my fingerprints don't digitally register correctly for my phone or the government. I haven't heard my husband say if he's used this feature or not. I purchased this one because we are out of state a lot and this allows me to unlock the door from wherever I'm at. We've had it a little over a month and the batteries are still at 100% so I'm very pleased with that. Also love that the NextLock app shows me the battery level. The customer service has been very attentive. ... show more

  • Great quality and even better customer service!
Style: Wi-Fi Biometric Lock Color: Silver
The door lock was easy to install. The app works well and integrated with Alexa/Echo flawlessly. I did have a small issue with the fingerprint scanner after 3 months, beyond the Amazon support window, but Hornbill support was very responsive and issued a warranty replacement right away.

  • Great product, love the quality & functionality.
Style: Wi-Fi Biometric Lock Color: Silver
Couldn’t be happier with this product. The functionality is amazing. Everything works seamlessly. The install was very easy, if you already have a hole for a deadbolt there is no drilling required. The set-up of codes, fingerprints, etc was also easy and intuitive.

  • Easy Install; great usability
Style: Wi-Fi Biometric Lock Color: Black
My wife was able to install this lock easily and it looks very neat. When installing, pay attention to the door opening direction (from the outside). If you need to change the direction do it both with the hardware switch and the app. The fingerprint reader works well except with wet fingers. It would be nice to be able to set the retry count to avoid the lock deactivating after too many tries. Great product. ... show more
