The Hone inverter stick welder has an incredible, smooth arc, with its high open circuit voltage. It will run. 7018 in1/8, and even 6010! For a hundred dollar price range im overly impressed for the capabilities, performance, and compactness as well. I have many other name brand welders, (red, and blue), and the performance is on par with those. The perfect rod for this is 6013, and welds thin metal with ease. I also really like how small it is and it would almost fit in the glove box of a pickup! So, professional quality, and maximum portability at a price that's just too good to pass up! ... show more

I need a welder from time to time and having grown up on a farm many years ago I learned to weld with an old Lincoln buzz box. I wanted something to do a few repairs from time to time around our property. First project was one of the anti-scalp wheels broke away from Kubota belly mower deck. This did an awesome job welding 1/4" steel to the mower decks 10 ga. steel. Was easy to control and made a good penetrating weld. I ran it on 120V and am anxious to give it a try on 220V. But it had zero issues making a solid weld even though the repair was a bit awkward the weld laid in nicely and my mower is back in service. I would highly recommend especially if you are like me and need a welder 3 or 4 times a year. ... show more

It works great. I was almost a certified welder but never took the exam. I got a lincoln wire welder but I could never get it to do a good weld. So I got this to do light welding jobs. It is great. I have always preferred a stick welder to wire and this one is more than adequate to do what I need. I would test it out on scraps first in order to select the right amperage. Let’s be honest, for what it costs shipped overnight, it’s not going to be unbelievably good. I fully tested it (metered it and everything). It’s definitely useable, and works good for what it is. The good: super portable/small, outputs a lot of power on 110, runs 7018 smooth, is pretty quiet, and has long leads. The bad: the amp reading display and the amp sticker on the knob are way off. When run on 110 volt set for 90 amps it does indeed put out 90 amps. When set for 130 on the display it outputs 115. On 220volts when set for 90 it outputs 115 amps. When set for 60 it outputs 75. When set for 140 it actually outputs 140 amps. So basically the only time the display and sticker are even close to accurate is at 90 amps when on 110 volt and 140amps on 220. I would have liked to see them just get rid of the display and have a accurate sticker. The other negative is it won’t run 6010 rods, the arc will go out consistently. It will run 6011 well. Open circuit voltage is 80 volts which is generally good for 6010 but it’s tough to keep it lit. I figured that wouldn’t work (despite their claims) so no surprise there. Basically if you have some small work to do around the home I don’t think you will be disappointed with it. 6013 and 7018 will run good. Just keep in mind the settings are off on the hot side. I am just going to sharpie ideal display settings based on voltage/rod diameter on the unit and use it anytime I need to burn a couple rods and don’t feel like dragging a bigger welder out. It will probably last a couple years of light duty (75-90 amp) use. Honestly I am pretty happy with the purchase. If they got the amp meter or chart dead on for atleast one voltage I would give it 5 stars. ... show more

FOR $100.00 BUCKS, you can't go wrong. I welded 1/4in to 3/8in no problem running it 220/240v with my generator using E6011. Running 110/120v is nice. Just make sure you have a dedicated 30amp breaker. If not you will pop it if you go over 100amps. Runs well other wise. The stinger is junk, I changed mine to a hobart. Def a good welder for the shop, hobbyist, DYI, beginner, etc. Very light weight ad well! ... show more

Hot start works phenomenal arch control is great! Fires right up even the hard stuff 7018 ran 3/32 on 1/4" plate no problem wt out sticking at all. Highly impressed wt this little machine! This thing cook's no doubt that it's running the true amperage, super strong! Very pleased! Did not trip 20amp breaker 120V will be recommending! Looking forward to not sticking anymore & having to have a pc of trash metal to get my rod hot so it won't stick, thank you Hone! Got a welding helmet too, watched a Youtube stick welding video, set to 45amps for 1/16" 6013 sticks, practiced 15 minutes on an old rebar, then fixed the the handle on an old Honda lawmower. Almost too easy, and much funner and less expensive than buying a new mower. Note this model has 85v OC voltage, which is higher than many other similar models on sale. ... show more
