Nora Howland, in her book, “Homemade Healthy Dog Food Cookbook,” has written a delightful book about the joyful labor of love it is to care for our darling dogs. Before getting into the recipes, Nora expounds on the ins and outs of caring for dogs—e.g., foods to avoid, dietary needs of dogs at various stages of life, and the process to follow to make a successful transition to homemade foods. She then provides approximately 80 pages of recipes. Her organization of these recipes is superb. She organizes recipes based on stage of life, dietary needs, and types of proteins (chicken, beef, fish, lamb, and vegetarian [plant-based protein]). Nora then organizes the meals into breakfast, lunch/snacks, and dinner recipes. What I found most intriguing is her recipes that are cultural of world cuisine inspired—Asian, Mediterranean, Latin American, and classic American, as well as her recipes inspired by the season of the year. This book is tremendous! I appreciate how everything is centered on love—a labor of love. This cookbook has excellent recipes and information for dog owners who want to feed their dogs better, like me. My German Shephered was a fan of the snack section. :) However, with cookbooks, I like pictures. I like to see what it's supposed to look like and this cookbook has zero photos inside, which was disappointing. Still, the content is very good. ... show more

Very nice cookbook, comprehensive and accessible explanations of basics. Only downside is the very small print which is hard for my senior eyes to read. Recommend it overall. Maybe a larger type of edition for us seniors?

I've always wanted to provide the best for my furry friend, and this book made it so much easier. The detailed nutrition insights were very helpful. I loved that it didn't just give recipes but also explained the "why" behind each ingredient. Transitioning to homemade dog food felt less daunting with their step-by-step guidance.
