    • Necessary reading for anyone who’s life has been impacted.
My ex-wife is schizophrenic. While I had some knowledge of the disease due to working in a field that overlaps with mental health care, it was necessary for me to learn more to be able to better understand and process what happened to the person I loved. This book approaches the subject from multiple perspectives, from a historical overview, to our current scientific understanding of the causes and symptoms of the disease, to how to support, advocated and create boundaries around people in your life who suffer from the disease. This is the only book I’ve read on the subject, but as far as I can tell it provided a comprehensive overview in a way that was accessible. Anyone who has a loved one or who works with individuals with schizophrenia should read this book and hopefully use the knowledge gained to dispel harmful myths and misconceptions. ... show more

I have loved this book so far. I have a family member recently diagnosed. Gives factual information and real statistics that help understand the potential outcomes in the future. Reads like a book not a dense medical text which I appreciate! A must have for anyone navigating this disease.

This book has been immensely helpful in understanding Schizophrenia through all aspects of the condition and any type of question you might have. I learned a lot and am able to break down a lot of stigma that I had previously towards this condition. The most recent edition is even better than the previous version, so buy new instead of a used older version if you can! Even if your loved one is undiagnosed but you think he/she may be schizophrenic, this is a book you should buy and read front to back. ... show more

The chapters are easy to pick and choose incase your in a hurry. I did Audio books also. There is a lot of info to take in but the author makes it easy to understand. He gives lots of facts and studies which helps when you need to be an advocate for a loved one. Cause the Mental Health care in the USA is only helpful when you know what to ask for. This book helps you to know about the illness and the healthcare system. Not specifically for your state, because they are all different, but what helps the disease best. ... show more
