Features

  • ECO-FRIENDLY- This eco-friendly fan is powered by the heat produced by your fireplace or wood burning stove; the blades spin faster as the fire gets hotter, dispersing the heat throughout the room, no electricity needed!
  • STOKING INDICATOR- The blades will slow as the fire goes down, giving you a built-in indicator of when to stoke and add more wood.
  • QUIET- The blades are the only moving parts on this stove fan so unlike noisy forced air fans, it is whisper quiet.
  • LOW MAINTENANCE- The fan requires very little attention to keep it running well, simply dust it off occasionally, and put some light oil on the blade shaft to keep it spinning smoothly and quietly!
  • PRODUCT DETAILS- 170-190 CFM Above 900 RPM and MAX Temperature of 644 F (340 C). For safety, Fan should be placed on the back of the stove (not in front) at least 4 inches away from the stove pipe.

  • Ineffective and Incorrect description
I purchased this fan with realistic expectations after researching several other brands and reading many reviews. Even so, I am underwhelmed and have returned this fan. Interestingly, I appear to be the first reviewer who has not been discounted or given the item in exchange for an "honest review". This "Liank" branded fan is a four blade Chinese version of the original "Ecofan" Canadian-made Caframo 800CAXBX Limited Original Ecofan . I was initially planning to buying a Caframo, but the claims made in the product description persuaded me to purchase this one. Unfortunately, I find these claims are inaccurate and misleading. First off, the description states "MAINTENANCE-FREE! No motor means nothing to wear out!" This peaked my interest and curiosity as the Caframo fan utilizes a motor that only lasts "several seasons" before needing replacement, according to its own product manual. I must admit, no motor sounds too good to be true, but there are other technologies out there, such as the Vulcan Stove Fan (Stirling Engine Powered) . Sure enough, as soon as I open the box, I clearly see a small electric motor housed behind the blade. It is somewhat enclosed behind a small removable plate, so perhaps the manufacturer thought we just wouldn't notice. I can't believe this motor is somehow immune to the same stresses that cause the demise of the Caframo motor, so I wouldn't expect more than a few seasons out of this one either. Secondly, the claimed airflow of up to 190 CFM also led me to purchase this fan. Even the most expensive, largest Caframo 812AMXBX Limited AirMax Ecofan with a 9" blade advertises only 175 CFM. This unit's blades are only about 6.75". I understand that this is in ideal conditions (max temp, etc.) but I have serious doubts that this comes anywhere near 190 CFM. For reference, this is more than a high power model bathroom exhaust fan such as the Panasonic FV-15VQ5 WhisperCeiling 150 CFM Ceiling Mounted Fan, White . With my stove top at about 400 degrees F (about as hot as I ever get my 2-year old, high-efficiency wood stove), measured with my non-contact laser thermometer, I could barely feel any air flow. The thing spins, and it is almost silent, but it doesn't seem to do much. While I have no way to actually measure CFM, I did directly compare this against against a old, small 8" electric fan I have, on low, and it is nowhere, remotely, in the realm of comparison. I would describe this fan's air flow as if a small child was standing behind the stove, blowing over it. That's not going to do much, and neither does this fan. ... show more

  • It moves heat
I have used this fan for a week. It is fun to watch and it is effective. I was initially concerned, as other reviewers, when I could not feel significant air movement, but then watching TV I felt a breeze. So I decided that I would make some objective vs subjective observations. To do so I used a digital laser thermometer and a digital anemometer. I live in a one level 2200 sq ft ranch style house, the living room contains, a wood burning fireplace, that is located is in the center the house, bedrooms are on one end the family room is on the other end through a kitchen. The fireplace is in one corner and the fan blows along a common wall following the other walls of the living room ending in a connected dining room that has a hallway leading to the bedrooms and to the family room via the kitchen. The fan starts to turn when the stove top measures 130 degrees. At 450 degrees the anemometer measured the fan wind speed at 2 to 2.5 miles per hour depending upon where it is held. So it does move air, but does it move are significantly? Answer is yes. The living room (300 sq ft) has more uniform warmth. The last bedroom in the hallway is 5 degrees below the temperature at the beginning of the hallway. The family room temperature is 4 degrees cooler. Overall having a fan is a improvement. The outdoor temperate was 40 degrees, the hallway temperature was 69 degrees. Update 1/29/2016: Yesterday it was cold enough to operate the stove/fan all day. I happen to check the far rooms after all day operation, they were within one to two degrees of the room where the stove is located. I could not ask for more. ... show more

  • Surprised it worked as well as it did
Reading lots of reviews for all the different makes and styles I was leary about buying any type of heat powered stove fan. This fan was on sale and I thought "Well if it doesn't work like I want, at least I'm not out to much money". Package was delivered quickly and contents were not damaged in anyway when I opened the box. Since we don't Abe our wood stove installed yet I wanted to test it. I placed it on my gas cook stove and turned the small burner on low and placed the fan on the grates above the flame. Within a minute the fan started working and the warmer it got the faster the speed of the fan. I wasn't expecting any type of breeze at all from this fan, I just wanted to help move the heat. Well Timmy surprise I could feel a breeze at least 4 feet from the fan. It was actually moving the heat from the small simmer flame 4 feet away from the burner. I was so shocked I asked my wife to come check it out and tell me what she felt. She was amazed it worked as well as it did. We plan on buying another one once we have the wood stove installed. Quality seems to be ok. I'm not sure how well the electric motor will work once it heats up and runs for days on end. If your curious how this works look up pelteir or tec electric generators on YouTube. So far I am really excited about using this all winter long. ... show more
