I've been a hobby photographer for many years but never really got into cellphone photography/videography until recently. Though I still prefer proper cameras for photography, videography on cellphones have greatly improved and I've been exploring it. To do proper videography a gimbal is an essential tool as it helps in stabilizing the camera, specially when using wide angle lenses as they do not have built-in stabilization. Looking at available options there are so many choices that it is impossible for a newbie to make decision but after watching many videos and reading reviews I picked up Hohem iSteady M7. Even though it was more than I would have spent on first gimbal the features were outstanding to justify the cost. Starting with the built quality, gimbal is built with high quality plastics with hard rubberized grips. All corners and sides are perfectly tapered to not have any sharp edges. Gimbal feature locks on all three motors and they click with a satisfying click. All buttons, rotary dial and joystick for controlling functions are all very high quality and are a joy to use. The detachable LCD remote is lightweight but also same high quality. The included stand is also well made and make it simple to setup gimbal on a table or flat surface. Gimbal also feature three connection points that can be used to mount accessories like mics or lights. Functionality wise, M7 is extremely feature rich and overwhelmed me at first but after going through the included quick start guide does a good job at providing details about the basic functionality to get you started. That plus few YT videos were enough to get me going. I use a foldable OnePlus Open and I also have issue with stands or phone holders because the phone is heavy and thick and does not work well with accessories made for bar phone but I'm happy to report that M7 works well with my phone and after some fiddling, I was easily able to stabilize it on the gimbal. Gimbal is paired with the phone using Bluetooth and it is a straight forward process. Once paired, either the built-in camera app or Homen Joy app can be used. I personally prefer the Hohem job app as it has a lot more feature that my camera app does not. Other than basic photo and video options, it has TimeLapse, TimeWarp, SlowMo, Pano and my favorite "Moment" option, which is like a template with predefined movements of gimbal to achieve pro level shots with ease. The ability to track subjects (not just people) and remotely trigger the camera and change settings view the remote are game changer for me as I usually make videos with camera at one location and don't usually carry it around. Just by selecting a subject on the LCD, Ai tracking can be enabled and it works amazingly well. Built-in RGB light is another great addition as helps in making videos in lowlight and I am sure Vloggers (which I am not) will make good use of it. Another feature that I really like is that gimbal features power out, so you can use it to charge the phone, which will result in decreased battery life for gimbal but at least there is an option for emergencies. I could write a lot more about why I like M7 but if I were to pick the main feature that stand out of me are the AI tracking, remote with built-in LCD and built-in light.     • Wow! The breathless reviews are not kidding! This is THE ONE TO GET!
To be clear, I am a tech junkie, in the best possible way. I read, and watch reviews of EBikes & Scooters, and own several. I am a semi-Pro photographer, Avid Drone Enthusiast, Tool-head from Welding to Micro-soldering. I have an oversized shed, 2 dedicated closets, backpacks and luggage designed for tool transport. I am "that guy" I had Hohem's M6 last :year, with the small remote available and was incredibly impressed with the extensive feature list. As a result, my expectations were high for M7, and it still exceeded those! The remote controls design and abilities impresses everyone that experiences it. I must have watched a dozen or more YouTube reviews, and not one was negative. Quite the opposite, in fact. Here are some stand-out features and abilities: Every function you can perform on the gimbal is available on the remote. Mainly because the gimbal controls ARE the remote. They attach magnetically to the gimbal, including the joystick for motion control, and a 1.4 inch Touchscreen Monitor! I even found how to align the AI modules image with the phone camera. This is a pro level function. Nothing about the hardware says "rushed" or cheap. Hohem took the people tracking of M6, and added object tracking, an outstanding upgrade! HOHEM also added separate locks on each motor, to stabilize it in you bag when not in use. You can unlock one at a time to make balancing a breeze. I will guarantee if you put the time to try things, the M7 will reward you with dependable, professional results, and will be every bit the solid tool for creative types. Yes it has a lot going on, but it's presented in a logical, intuitive way that makes using it a pleasure. I should know. I have had gimbals that made balancing your phone or camera an exercise in frustration. This is not even in the same class. You get 12 hours of runtime on battery, less if you're charging your phone from it or running the light on high. This has an extendable handle, RGB and FILL LIGHT. Check out YouTube content showing how to get the most from it. It's just a constant source of amazement. Of all the gear we had released this year, this is one of the best if not THE BEST - I would give it an award if I could. I don't write reviews often, and especially don't write glowing ones, but there is something so right with this product, I simply had to let others know!     • Love it! Just needs one thing.
The AI tracking and detachable remote for framing is absolutely AMAZING for solo filming. Definitely innovative and incredibly useful and well thought out. And it works seamless and isn't cumbersome or gimmicky to setup or anything. EVERY gimbal company needs to implement this stuff so we don't have to use a proprietary app to get features. This is party why I won't touch DJI's stuff. I really like it so far. The ONLY thing that I really wish Hohem had that would make this perfect would be a solid magnetic mount instead of the compression grips. This would just make mounting it even faster and less cumbersome. I just don't like compression clamps personally very much and I feel like they will wear out over time. Another thing I'd like to see is just sealing or water/weatherproofing. Not sure how this would do in wet or snowy or less than ideal conditions. ... show more
