Description

The Ignition (HI) series offers you the chance to own a piece of history even on a tight budget. This model has a fully hollow body combined with Höfner 70's style 'staple' pick-ups to give the authentic Höfner sound. It is of course fitted with the famous Höfner control panel, this has on/off for each pick-up, solo/rhythm switch and individual volume controls. This special edition has the famous Hofner Tea Cup knobs on the control panel and has Hofner flatwound strings for that 60s sound! Finished in a special color for a truly distinctive bass. Lightweight and with its short scale (30") neck it is a pleasure to play, even for hours without getting back-ache and fatigue. • Unable to intimate properly
Fit and finish was great but intonation is near impossible with the movable fret slots, and when I think it’s close enough I get frustrated next time I play it. It may be fixable with an adjustable bridge and possibly new strings but I don’t want to invest and it not work Also tiny tuners seem to be a little light weight and struggle against the string gauge ... show more

  • wow! very nice Hofner Bass experience imo
Heck, I took a risk on this bass-- wanted a Beatles/McCartney sounding instrument but: cheap. I once had a Hofner 6-string electric guitar, a "Senator" if I had to guess, back in the 1990's. I was very light-weight compared to every other guitar at the time-- which meant "low quality"... but it had a sound a feel of it's own. I traded it off for a Gibson ES-175 B-grade factory second. Mistake! I miss that Hofner but hope the subsequent owner appreciated her more than I did. So maybe this isn't a beginner's bass guitar, but it feels authentic to the old Hofner instrument I remember. It is a shorter scale (30" vs. 34" standard), it is light because the body is hollow, and it has a very flat resonance because of that-- it doesn't "ring" it "stomps" IDK, listen close to PM on old Beatles songs... so anyway.. tell a story: this is a nice bass for the money if you want a vintage older sound/feel i think you'll enjoy this. BTW, the strings that came on it WERE flat-wound metallics detuned and terrible . but I'm nothing if not cheap. so I tuned it up and started playing a bit. I think they are coming in somehow... don't sound so bad. ie, the E was dead dead flatulent atonal to start, but it is making a note now after 30 minutes or so. or maybe I'm losing it! I may regret saying so, but I think this is a very good bass! ... show more

  • Bass arrived with non-functioning electronics.
Out of the box, E-strung saddle was ground too low and the string was muted against the wooden base of the bridge. Worse, the neck pickup did not function. Plugged it into three different amps, bridge pickup worked fine (muted E-string notwithstanding), no output from the neck pickup at all. Checked all switch and volume settings with my electrical meter and the neck pickup (or the wiring) has a fault somewhere, circuit does not complete. Called Amazon customer service to arrange a return for a functioning bass, they said they would call me back on Monday. Awaiting resolution. ... show more

  • Unplayable
I've always loved the Hofner sound and decided to take a chance on this bass. I ended up returning it because it was completely unplayable. I get that this is a low-price range instrument but for $400, it should at the very very least be playable.
