    • An absolutely great RC plane for any level!!

This plane is amazing and so much fun to fly. I am fairly new to the RC plane crowd, but have been flying drones for years. I was really surprised with how easy this plane is to fly. In beginner mode you can really get a good feel for the aircraft, and flying in general, and then move up to advanced mode where the flying really opens up. It is nice that you can switch between these modes on the fly (no pun intended), letting you fly casually and then flip the switch and start doing loops and barrel rolls, all in the same flight. The assembly was easy (it was bigger than I expected) and the RTF kit has everything you need to start flying. The kit comes with a 2200mAh battery, which gives you some decent flying time depending on how much throttle you are using. I also ordered a Spektrum smart 3200mAh battery which fits perfectly in the battery compartment and allows for an extended time in the air. I have not had any issue with not having flaps, if there is a little breeze you can fly into the wind and fly extremely slow without issue. I have only used this on a grass field and really haven't had any issues with nose overs...just one and that was my own fault, and with the durability of this plane there were no issues. There is also some nice add on equipment, such as Landing assist and GPS, that can be purchased for a relatively low cost, that can really help if you are a beginner pilot. There are also floats that you can purchase for water take offs and landings. I live on a lake so I really like that!! I would highly recommend this plane to anyone. It is a great plane for a beginner to get into the hobby, but also a fun plane for the seasoned pilots as well. Have Fun!! ... show more

I love this plane. It is very durable and has survived many crashes. Don't count on the little covers that go over the landing gear as those broke the first time I did a bad landing. This was my third plane but my second plane never worked right so I'm not a great pilot. I have a float set for it but I didn't try those yet. The floats are the Hobbyzone sport cub LP set available on amazon. The landing gear that comes with the floats doesn't work for the plane but there is other landing gear that comes with the plane for the floats. The set up was easy and took me about an hour but I'm very slow. It lands and takes off well in grass and flies great. The three modes are amazing with self leveling on beginner and intermediate mode and no limits on advanced. It also has a low and high speed which changes the tilt of the elevator, ailerons, and rudder. I would recommend this plane for anyone who is a first time pilot. ... show more

I like this product its easy to assemble and a great looking plane still have not got it in the air yet. i bought the BNF version. I am having trouble trying to bind my Spektrum DXs transmitter to it on the horizon hobby website it says you can use one. I don't know if i have to update the controller. Anyway great product would definitely recommend for newbie flyers ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This is a good choice for a first plane of this size. Lots of great reviews - let’s face it, it’s an RC Plane so of course it’s fun. But being fun isn’t the only aspect to consider. I’ve had it a short while and flown it quite a few times now and been able to get into experienced mode and do some ariels like loops and rolls - as well as some unintended heart stopping stalls - that were quickly recovered thanks to the awesome SAFE technology built into this plane. So, the good and the bad? Here it is: Yep it’s an RC Plane and a good sized one if you want to learn and want the scale type experience. It looks great, it’s hard to not like the look of Cubs even if they aren’t the acrobatic show offs of some other designs, and it is fun to fly. Pretty much everyone would have to agree on this. Here’s the important stuff that Horizon included and that they missed. Pros: Great looking Cub, nice color scheme that looks great on the ground and in the sky. Easy to assemble and get flying. Easy to fly in SAFE. Auto leveling with roll limits and selectable flight modes to help learning be fun rather than one and done. Experienced mode gives you the full flight envelope so be ready and be HIGH (in the air) when you try it out. The flip of a switch cycles you back into SAFE mode. You will like this feature! Intermediate mode, I’m not too sure why it exists. Great technology - SAFE technology (AS3X) read about it on Spektrum’s site, with optional upgrades for SAFE+ (GPS, LAS); Personally I don’t like the GPS idea unless you just really feel like you need geo fencing. LAS, why? No thanks. A telemetry capable ESC; a Spektrum DXS transmitter/controller with DSMX; one Spektrum Smart LiPo battery 2200 mA 3S 11.1V (buy at LEAST 1 more when you order the plane, G2 is available so get that); Spektrum S120 smart charger (USB, not the one you will want long term but fine for getting started) These are all some really great features and Horizon included them in this trainer which overall makes the RTF a very good package if you’re just getting started or wanting to try this hobby. Supposedly, the DXS transmitter can be used with other BNF planes, but it’s obvious to me that if I start to get more planes, I’d buy a better, programmable transmitter like the NX8. No doubt about it. So if that’s your plan factor in the cost of a good transmitter for more planes. Cons: There are only a couple, one pretty big one. Landing gear: As my kid would say, it’s kinda buns. It looks good but it’s a constant source of adjustment. First off, the wheel fairings - plastic pieces that dress up the landing gear - are a pitiful design. For all the great design work that Horizon does, these are a joke. Their attachment clips will break, quickly, so if you don’t want to lose them, attach them with something like zip ties - you can see what I did in the attached picture by drilling small holes on either side of the clips, 3 sets of 2 holes at each attachment point. They will also move and rotate if not fully secured, which results in them digging into the plane body on landings, or affecting aerodynamics in flight and/or digging into the wheels affecting landings. The wheels are large and bouncy and when combined with the tail dragger design, it’s pretty squirrelly on the ground. But that’s probably to be expected. It does not move through short grass as easily as I expected, especially when bent slightly out of shape, causing some nose overs on take off from grass and no matter how well you flare the landing, many will end tipped on the front. Also as I mentioned, like many similar designs I suspect, the landing gear easily gets splayed by landings and this affects how well it rolls and must frequently be bent back into shape. Annoying but not a show stopper. FLAPS: This is the biggie and it’s really my ONLY big criticism of this package. Flaps are an “optional” upgrade. Why? They are already sitting there on the wing but need to be cut free to move which is very simple. And you need to install an additional servo and extension cable, all of which is easy and inexpensive. But really, Horizon, it would have cost so little to have just included this, like probably cost you nothing to include it. But ok, so we have to cough up a few bucks for a servo and cut away a little foam. If you insist, I’m in. But wait, the included transmitter is not compatible with flaps? Why the heck not? Learning to fly should include flaps! And, THIS PLANE NEEDS FLAPS. It’s built to fly nice and slowly and some nice slow, low altitude passes would be a lot of fun. And landing - without flaps it’s a bit fast resulting in more nose overs than should be happening. The truth is that FLAPS are controllable with the DSX transmitter (I think it’s currently switch D). However, it’s apparently incapable of mixing in elevator in conjunction with the flaps. This is really unfortunate and it’s the one thing that keeps this from being a 5 star, great package for learning this hobby. I don’t know why they couldn’t do it, I’d love to know. It’s hard to believe that with all it does that this was not possible. I hope the lack of flaps didn’t come at the expense of having something like GPS or LAS available. If so, that was a huge mistake. My hope is that the good people at Spektrum will create some update for the DXS that allows a better experience this way. So no flaps is a real bummer but outside of that it’s a great package with a lot of good tech built in to help you easily make the leap into the hobby and learn to fly on a great looking scale model Cub. And oh yeah, like everyone says, it’s a lot of fun! ... show more

Ordered this for a Christmas gift for my son and it arrived December 23rd "late" and the whole plane was destroyed. Not a piece in the box was intact. Chunks missing out the wings. The fuselage was smashed and the whole tail of the airplane was broken. Literally looks like someone stomped on the plane. Way to ruin my son's Christmas. Sent me a box of broken junk. ... show more

This product is much better than I originally thought. This plane is really good for beginners if you are just getting into the hobby. All of the features are great that come with this plane and is more than capable for easy flying. Easy build, no broken or damaged parts straight out of the box, and very high quality. Not just the performance of the plane is good, but it the engineering of the colors and scale details are very good and look much better in person. Highly recommended for anyone even if it’s not your first plane, it’s great in all aspects, and is worth every dollar. Hope this helps! ... show more
