Good solid built product

  • Beautiful Design and Color, Quality Material!
Size: 1
I purchased this doorbell button to replace our original builder's grade, flimsy, dirty, paint covered, burnt out (light) doorbell button that had been beyond an eye sore for quite some time... I thought the pictures of this doorbell were very nice, but in person the design is beautiful and the antiqued brass is perfect to compliment our brick front colonial. It's a very subtle, yet rich color tone, and the finish is very high quality. The materials feel high quality. The surround is solid metal with a brass finish. In the hand, it has a nice heft to it, and doesn't feel flimsy at all. As stated above, the brass finish feels and appears to be high quality, and is very nice to the touch. The button itself is plastic, obviously, and I believe the little ring around it is as well (although it MAY be thin metal). The button is not permenantly mounted into the surround; if you push on the rear it slides out. I'm not sure if it was made this way so that it can be easily replaced if necessary, but when I was connecting the wires to the button it kept sliding out of the surround. Not a big deal, but just of note. When wired, the button has a soft, yellowish glow that is subtle and pleasant, yet very functional for night viewing. The button itself requires an easy press and protrudes enough to be comfortable for your finger (unlike some buttons that you have to use the tip of your finger to dig into). IMPORTANTLY: This is a RECESSED MOUNT doorbell button; meaning it requires a hole slightly larger than 1/2" to fit into. The doorbell button that was originally used on our house was surface mounted, and I found it to be far too much effort to get this doorbell to fit where the original one was due to the wires being thick and unyielding. I drilled out far more material than was called for, and could not get the wires to bend in such a way to allow this to sit into the hole and connect properly. Please double check to see what type of button you have (surface mount or recessed mount), and make sure you're willing to spend the time and effort (or hire someone) if you currently have a surface mount. I, personally, gave up and returned it in favor of a similarly designed surface mount... This is unfortunate, however, because this would still be my top choice design wise. I HIGHLY recommend this button for those of you replacing recessed mounted buttons, or those of you who either know enough to get it to fit or hire someone who does. It is a beautiful product, and if your situation allows for it, you really can't go wrong with it! + beautiful design and excellent materials / finish + lighted button is subtle yet visible + Antiqued brass finish is beautiful, classic and gives perfect balance of adding visual appeal and blending with surrounding materials + Simple installation if replacing another recessed mount button (2 mounting screws, 2 wires). NEUTRAL: * Button slides out of surround relatively easily. May not be an issue, but of note. * Recessed mounting may be issue for those replacing surface mount buttons. Unfortunately, most of the nicer designs are recessed mount - just a trade off I guess. ... show more

  • Fashionable Doorbell
Size: 1
I didn't use this because I couldn't find the wires to hook it to. I normally have the wires visible from the old doorbell. I like the style and would gladly installed it but I just couldn't find the wires.

  • Needs a Diode
Size: 1
I was unaware that this doorbell needed a Diode to execute the full ring function. FYI if you are buying this either have a diode with your old button or buy one. I was lucky and my old one had one and I just installed along with wiring and it works great and looks great.

  • Button is too stiff to press in
Size: 1
I did not install it, because the button was too stiff to press in and I wanted something that presses in easily and smoothly. It looks cute enough, but I also did not care for the thick clear plastic around the outer edge of the button. At first I thought it was packaging that was protecting the button and needed to come off, but it is not packaging and it's too thick of plastic to be around the outer edge of the button. So, I didn't like the design or stiffness, but others might not mind. At the end of the day, it would not be an upgrade to my existing button. I wanted something better than what I already have. ... show more
