  • Definitely Better!
My system :- Flac files on a Synology NAS feeding a Wiim Mini streamer > Unique Products Online 6ft Glass optical Toslink cable > RME ADI-2 DAC FS - Van Damme silver-plated Balanced XLR cables - Stax SRM-400S Electrostatic Amplifier > Stax SR-L700Mk2 electrostatic headphones. I'd like to think a good quality system? I have heard small differences in the past between interconnects and speaker cables, but have always been a bit sceptical when it comes to digital cables. I believe in the 1's are 1's, and 0's are 0's argument, and that a digital cable either delivers the signal or it doesn't. I was using an inexpensive (plastic) optical fiber cable but heard about the Lifatec glass toslink cable with 470 separate glass strands sounding better. It costs around $165 and they charge $40 for shipping to UK! I then came across this cable on Amazon sold by Unique Products Online and with 280 strands but only $56 including shipping. I thought why not? If I can't hear a difference I can always return it for a refund. Long story short - it's going nowhere! With my mind-set of 1's are 1's etc, I have to say I'm absolutely puzzled. It shouldn't sound 'better'. BUT IT DOES. For me, the bass is firmer, and more well-defined. Everything seems clearer, and so I find I am listening at slightly lower volumes but hearing more detail. No bad thing! Only problem now is I have to decide if it's worth paying nearly 4 times more (for an extra 190 strands) for the Lifatec. Would the sound be 4 times better? Very much doubt it! The law of diminishing returns has got to be kicking in hard here. Would it be much better? Would it be slightly better? Decisions, decisions. For someone with an average-to-good system I would say this is a steal at this price, and an absolute no-brainer. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Extremely good performance...excellent value for money.
I haven't got a lot of experience with TOSlink cables...this is only the third one I've used. The first was an Amazon Basic one- which sounded not nearly as good as a coax or a USB input, and was relegated to the TV into a DAC. But even with the TV the sound was mediocre at best- so I went to the other extreme and got a $300+ Audioquest Vodka TOSlink. I did not quite know what to expect with the Vodka, but since I got it for a great second hand price, felt sure I could always sell it if I did not feel it brought anything extra to the table. The Vodka was leagues better than the Amazon Basic one...even narrated documentaries were much more intelligible- the Basic cable made all voices unpleasantly boomy and muffled. This was as large a difference as I have ever heard from cables- be it interconnect, speaker wires or AC power cables. So what has this got to do with this particular optical cable? Well, during rearrangement of the audio rack, the Audioquest Vodka must have been tugged, and stopped working. I did not want to shell out another $300 for a replacement- so I took a punt on this reasonably-priced alternative. I cannot compare it now with the Audioquest- but I'm certain it is no worse- there still us that thrilling clarity that the Vodka had in spades, that the Basic cable did not have at all. A six foot run of the AQ Vodka would easily cost 10x what this does, and in my relatively high-end system is near indistinguishable from this alternative. BTW....construction appears very good...it looks more durable then the AQ as well. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Yes, it really will make a difference.
Significant cable, thick cable jacket with a quality build. I had an Acoustic Research cable before and this is a significant improvement in sound. is clearer. I can hear instruments easier, even the subtle ones that I couldn't hear before. The soundstage is vastly improved. The best $36 I spent on a cable. It's a tremendous value. I think I spent more on the plastic fiber cable made by acoustic research. I honestly thought it wouldn't make a difference. It's a digital connection, ones and zeroes. But it did and I will buy more of these cables because of how well this one makes the music sound. ... show more

  • Clearer, more dynamic sound Period!
This toslink cable is great value for the money! A very inexpensive and necessary upgrade from the usual upgrade cables as it has glass fibers for the light to travel through. Think of it as looking through a glass window versus looking through a window made of lexan. A sharper clearer view with the glass! Same goes for your audio too. More of the light variations get through the cable to the other end which in turn ruins less of the sound verses other toslink cables. Which is what all cables do to a degree. In good quality audio reproduction its all about damage control! This cable helps preserve the audio which would otherwise be lost traveling through most others. You get clearer less foggy sound! Cymbals actually have a ringing sound to them! Bass notes are tighter more defined. Everything is just sharper faster and more realistic sounding as it should be. This cable cost to performance upgrade is a no brainer! I have lots of expensive cables in my system and needed a toslink cable to connect an older cheaper cd player I have from the past to my new higher end system I have now. Im doing it for fun and I don’t want to get rid of my old player too. It’s pretty funny my old CD player has never sounded this good! Lol! It’s true. This cable will work well with any source that has a toslink optical out on it. Try it. You won’t be disappointed! ... show more

  • Works Good
I have a very high end system. The sound difference between this and Amazon basics optical cable is negligible. The build quality is very nice.

  • Extremely good Toslink cable
Perfect buy. The cables are superb quality and it is definitely really good sound quality compared to normal non glass toslink cable. Its cheap, feels very premium quality and think you will love the sound/upgrade you will get from this. Highly recommended
