    • Better than a rope or cable winch
When you need a light duty and relatively short distance winch, this one with the strap is the best alternative. The strap winds and unwinds nice and clean and flat onto the roller every time. Versus a rope or cable winch that tends to tangle and chew up the rope or cable every time you use it.

    • Crank is not quite the best

So this winch/come-along hand crank draw up rope is great except… well the handle to crank it feels cheaply made and doesn’t offer suitable mounting positions. From my experience with this winch I’ve noticed it does crank but not as smoothly as you’d expect and with the handle being as short as it it is pulling something heavy is bout near impossible. The last gripe is the initial placement of where I mounted this the handle would not clear due to an obstruction with the mount so I had to re-work the mount just to get it to work. All in all it’s a decent winch if you don’t mind doing it manually which will be just good for me since I’ll only be using this on occasion basis only. Overall the performance is decent, the value you get is fair, installation was somewhat easy and quick took about an hour with very precise measuring and lastly the fit for its use was exactly what I needed. Would I recommend it? If you are using it for something simple like I am then yes absolutely it works perfect for that. What am I using it for? I have these really heavy ladders that are super long and awkward to store but they store great on the garage ceiling so I hooked this winch up for that so I can get them hoisted up there and then I hook them to a lag hook I have mounted to the garage ceiling so for that it works great and yeah I could just push them up there but I thought this would be way easier and it absolutely is. ... show more

This thing is HEAVY! There is no doubt at all that this is all solid steel. It comes with a 33 foot steel cable that's about half as thick as your middle finger. It's manual, operated by a crank and ratchets. There are two posts you can mount the crank handle on. One is slow for heavy loads, the other is fast for lighter loads. It has a ratchet lock for safety. The handle won't spin out of control and break your arm or hand, a very good thing! It has holes for bolting to your boat trailer frame. My husband has a flat bed trailer that he uses occasionally to move wood around our property. I got him this manual hand winch so he could attach it to the trailer and winch up those heavier tree stumps. It has mounted easily and the hand crank works smoothly. we recommend.

Bought for a boat trailer, boat is an aluminum fishing boat. The hand crank bolt snapped on first use. The winch is rated for 3,500lbs and boat is nowhere near that heavy. It does what it's supposed to do. Good manual hand crank winch rated up to 500 pounds. Great for boat trailers and other needs if you are creative enough. I used mine to build a deer cleaning stand. After I attach the gambrel I can crank the handle until it gets where I want it and go to work. I like the heavy duty cable and winch gears are smooth. I've only used it for a small boat so far, so I'm not sure how much weight it would take, but it seems to be well made and heavy duty.
