I went through too many trials and errors trying to simply fry chicken. I try to fry on the stove and the outside of the chicken cook way to fast leaving the inside chicken undercooked. I tried using a pressure cooker and the chicken burns in less than 6 minutes. And air frying chicken can be good sometimes, but it's just not the same as regular fried chicken. I decided to give this a chance even though I read a few negative comments. When I tell you my chicken came out exactly the way my mother would cook it, I'm not over exaggerating! Although I can only cook a few small batches at a time, it's well worth the wait to receive beautiful results of a perfectly cooked chicken. This deep fryer takes up less counter space than my old one. Cleanup is easy, too! My only complaint (and it's a big one!) is that the handle is not stiff. When I am ready to empty the food onto a plate, the handle folds back. Food spills everywhere except the plate. I have learned to use my tongs to hold the handle in place when I am ready to empty the basket. 4 stars ... show more

Although the metal housing is rather thin and if not careful is prone to getting bent, the tub itself is solid, the components seems decently durable for average kitchen, and it cooks very well. I just bought a replacement for my original one, which was owned for about 18 months with no problems. It only died because my knucklehead 12 year son turned it on with no oil in it, so it fried itself. (So like... do don't that.) ... show more

Little did I pay attention to the size when ordering. After the fact I read 12 Cups? 96 oz of oil max. The minimum amount of oil is 64oz. I was like oh my goodness this is going to be too large. Well it is not it is the prefect size. I can fry two chicken breasts which is perfect for me. Maybe you could do a third but it is just simply much easier to do two at a time. Cooks them to a perfect brown color and fully cooked in 15 minutes. It is extremely easy to clean as everything comes apart. The heating element slides onto the side. The fry pot is just a pot that sits in the shell. The base and handle come apart easily but stays together when using it. The cord is magnetic and if it gets yanked while in use it just pops off but stays secure when in use. This is just a very nice fryer. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. It's a great deep fryer, takes a minute to assemble and maybe 10 min or so to warm up depending on room and oil temp already of course. I do think the temperature is actually hotter than what's written but haven't tested it yet. I made a batch of falafel and it reminded me of when I used to work in a restaurant doing the same thing and they came out perfect. You have to spend on the oil because it consumes quite a bit but realized that you are paying for ease and efficiency! ... show more

Just got my Hamilton Beach (35033) deep fryer today and cooked up a batch of the world famous Planet Hollywood Crunch Chicken....amazing!!! I use to deep fry in a cast iron skillet...works well, but it can be a challenge to hold a thermometer in it and stop all the oil from splattering. This little Deep Fryer works great. No mess. No oil splatters. It holds the temp a lot better than I expected. It is not 100% accurate...I turned it on to 375 degrees and it got to about 365-370 after checking with a cooking thermometer, but it had a hard time maintaining that high of temp...perhaps smaller batches will help. My ONLY complaint is I wish it had an odor filter. It really should have come with a carbon re-usable filter but it doesn't. I will find one and cut it to size. There is enough room in the vented area of the unit on top of the lid to accommodate one. Other than that, I have read complaints about it being messy...NOPE!! If you are careless...sure it will be. If you are careful and setup a proper station and use tongs and such you will have no problem. YES - I would recommend this for the price point...it is a great value. ... show more

After using this fryer a number of times times now, I am wondering why I didn't go with a simpler Fry Daddy or electric skillet. This fryer heats up fast and fries nicely - especially smaller items like chicken tenders and french fries. However, there are many design drawbacks. First, it uses a lot of oil. You'll need a quart just get past the minimum fill line. The immersive heating element alone takes up about 1/2 inch of oil and prevents the basket from going deeper into the oil. There is no pour lip to make emptying used oil easier. There are a lot of parts to clean and it can get messy (frying container, basket, lid, heating element). The heating control unit slides into place on one end but does not lock - so the whole thing can slip apart if you try to pick it up from both ends. The 24" electric cord is very short and the magnetic connector plug pulls away easily. Overall, it does a good job of frying food quickly without having to constantly flip or turn the pieces, but all these drawbacks are annoying. ... show more
