  • Easy to Assemble and looks nice
My 9 year old daughter and I put this together in about 20 minutes. It was very easy and seems sturdy so far, it's only been a few weeks. We are pleased with the price, the look and how easy it was to put together. It's just raw wood so no chemical finishes which was what was most important to us for purchase as we are using it for growing edible vegetables and herbs. ... show more

  • Love the kits, but the boards are rough
Love all the Greene's kits. They go together easily and quickly. My only beef would be the roughness of the boards - expect very rough cedar boards. That said, if you want smooth... I ordered this kit to add onto with custom boards from the Greenes website. (Not available on Amazon.) I used credit card points for the Amazon purchase, so I really didn't want to pony up "real" dollars on the Greenes site. I ordered 30" boards from their site. When they arrived - so smooth and beautifully cut! Not like the rough boards in the kits. If you understand how these go together and want to get a better product, I highly recommend doing a custom build buying parts from their website. It might be a few bucks more, but the results will be gorgeous! I less likely to give splinters. ... show more

  • Lots of options and easy to assemble
I ordered two sets to make the box taller. Each set is actually 2 four foot square boxes. Due to the easy assemble design with grooved posts, you have a lot of options for layout, especially with two sets. In the end I opted for three taller boxes, increasing the end boxes in height and even more increase on the middle box. It is now a great raised bed that is aesthetically interesting and easier on the back. If you are a perfectionist about every little piece, you can certainly sand them to be perfect, however I found that it being a bit rustic didn’t bother me at all. It is a great price and simply designed so even a child could assemble. If you prefer the box be sturdier, you can easily add screws or braces. I found that while a bit wobbly when empty, once the box was filled it was just fine. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • A simple raised garden bed
I really like the design for this garden bed. It's wood that slots into place on posts. The interesting thing (to me) is that if you don't want to have the bed be 14 inches tall, you can have this assembled as two 7 inch tall garden beds. It's a good size, especially if you're just using the garden beds as a way to keep weeds out and if you're putting this on already tilled land. Since it's just slotted boards, it's not the most stable thing in the world, but it holds up well enough, especially if the boards are pounded into the ground a little. I think this is a good product for novice gardeners. The quality of the wood seems fine, but it's pretty rough. I didn't have any problem with the wood splitting or anything, but I saw some other posters having issues where they had to trim excess wood, so just be aware that could happen. ... show more

  • Three-and-a-half Stars
I bought 2 large sets of beds, so you may see my review in two places. This product is really a great idea, and fills a real need for those of us who'd rather not fiddle around with trying to find cedar boards, cut them, and then screw them together to make a raised bed on our own. I particularly liked the idea that I'd be able to take these apart and rearrange them in the future. There were some issues, however, and I don't want to gloss over them, and I debated whether to give this produce 3 stars or 4. First, the "cons." The cedar boards are rough, which isn't an issue in an of itself, but the dovetail-shaped notches on the ends are not always exactly the same size. The corner posts have grooves in them, sort of like the posts in the old Tupperware "Build-O-Fun" construction sets, and these grooves in the cedar posts aren't always smoothly finished, either. This can make the notched edges of the boards difficult to slip into the grooves; I guess you could sand them a little if you had any sandpaper handy. I had to use a hammer (a rubber mallet would have been better) to encourage the boards into the grooves. Three of the corner posts actually split while I was trying to insert the boards, and I'm a woman and was not using unusual force or "tilting" the board. I finally found that, when possible, it was better to actually hammer the corner post down over the bottom board rather than the board into the corner post. Forget taking them apart again, at least in our humid climate. Also be aware that the cornerposts project a slight amount from the actual side of the bed (you can see this in the picture.) This is very pretty, but if you are considering using paving stones around your bed, you might want to consider this. Now for the "pros"- You can stack these beds (within reason), and you could really be creative with them. As the grooves are not finely-finished, you do not have to put all of the boards directly on top of one another: you could leave a little space between the boards for the bottom of a compost container or just for decorative effect around the top of a bed. I even thought about using one 4 X 4 bed as a small pen for very young ducklings, or putting some cattle panel over the top of a deep bed (filled with fresh, warm compost) and using that as a warm area for seedling-trays. These beds are already versatile. With a little creativity, this company could really offer some very inventive companion products, such as elements for making the boards into greenhouse tables and little pens. I think they do need to pay a little more attention to finishing the grooves and dovetails, though. ... show more

  • One person assembly
It was easy to assemble by one person. It’s attractive and does the job of holding dirt. The wood is cut roughly but I was able to get the parts together. Some boards were slightly bowed but it doesn’t seem to hinder performance. I would buy another. I suggest assembling on very level ground to get the sides even. I bought this because I didn’t want to have to use a bunch of tools to assemble, and I used no tools, and just haven’t added the post caps with a drill yet. ... show more

  • UPDATE: ** Falling apart after one year.
Updated review, 1 year later: The wood has faded and the boards are more warped than ever. It will still hold, but I think we'll have to replace it sooner than we excepted to. We're buying a second raised bed and we're definitely not buying this one. Original review shortly after buying: The wood is nice and sturdy. We received quite a few warped boards, but nothing we couldn't work with. It was a quick build and has held together nicely. Once you build it, it can't be moved, so be sure it's exactly where you want it. We will probably buy another or 2 next year. ... show more
