Here I am sitting on my back porch listening to the quiet running generator on a blue bird sky day when there should be no power outages. Turns out, someone clipped a power pole and now the power is off. I received the generator 8 days ago. The electric start feature is terrific and the unit started right up. It's powering all my electronic gizmos and my fridge, quietly. After the engine starts, back slowly off the operating dial from Start to Run. The dial seems to control the choke and the engine wants to die a bit if not warmed up for 30 seconds or so. This has been great live in an RV and have used it when boondocking or once at a camp ground and they lost power, starts up with no issues, it is very easy to pick up and put in a bay or move around (the main reason I could not get a bigger generator they became way to heavy for a single person to move) I just can't run everything using this one but it has an auto shut off if you do overload it which is easily corrected after you turn off the offending item and restart the generator. ... show more

    • I ran this generator for about 15mins every other month for 8 months and I can no longer start it.
After multiple troubleshooting ideas with Genmax support over a month's time, my generator is still not running. This machine is brand new with only 1:15 h/m run time and I can not get it to start. I have a case number, I have had 4 different things to go through with support and my spark plug still gets no spark hence the machine will not run. I spent $1100 on this machine and it is useless to me, I can not return it and I have requested for it to be replaced with no response. I have since left 3 voicemails and followed up on 3 emails over the past 2 weeks to their support with no response. I suggest buying a different brand of generator as this machine is not reliable. I need this generator for the winter months and now I have nothing after 1100.00. I will continue to reach out to their support hoping I will get it fixed. We had some weather near zero degrees without electric power for four days in an all electric home. This unit will run what we need in an emergency. We had an electrician install a transfer panel next to our electric service panel and we can plug the generator into an outside receptacle for safe and easy use on a dozen circuits in the service panel during a power outage. We have not used this generator in an emergency yet, just enough to break it in and keep the seals lubricated. It runs surprisingly quiet for an engine this size. Servicing the oil is difficult because of congestion and the position of the oil drain hose, but it's doable. The battery compartment is cramped as well, but accessible because of the removable panels on all sides. It takes a little extra time, but is doable. I installed a jack to plug the battery tender in to keep it topped off for that day we hope will never come and we need backup power. The rope start works, just pull hard!     • Worked well for my needs
We were hosting a 5-piece blues band in a community garden. In addition to making sure we had enough watts, it was important to have a quiet generator. Initial setup was very easy, and it started right up. Very quiet for the size. We used a longer extension cord to set it away from the band but even up close, the generator was quiet enough. Easy enough to move on the wheels. It was heavy to lift into the truck to get it to the garden but not unreasonably so (one male/one female did the lifting). Overall, very satisfied. ... show more

I have a Honda eu3000 and needed more wattage and didn’t have the money for a larger Honda, I purchased the gen max 5500 and wow. This inverter is quieter than the Honda and more than half the price. Easy setup, Highly recommend

    • Lack of customer support and repair
I recently purchased this unit for its high wattage output at a constant and 30 amp RV service. Overall the unit worked extremely well and was very quiet. However, in the recent 6 weeks, I have had issues with the generator putting out proper power until a total failure occurred over 2 weeks ago. The customer support with Genmax is not reliable and there is a lack of customer service to honor repairs or warranty issues. There are no local shops in the area that can make repairs to the unit due to parts not being readily available. So after 2 weeks, I decided to just purchase another unit and brand. I would suggest before purchasing this unit that you check with local shops to see if this is something that can be serviced as their support is not reliable. ... show more
