  • Um... what?? How??
Color: Metallic Gray
This guitar is unspeakably good for the money. I have no idea how these guys are turning a profit at all. I absolutely love this thing. It sounds great, feels great, looks cool, stays in tune, and is just all around amazing.

  • MORE UNPLAYABLE JUNK
Color: Metallic Gray
I wasn't expecting miracles but really? The pickguard is cracked all the way through which seems to be a theme with this model. (Others reporting the same issue. See photo #3). That in turn caused problems with broken solder points, mostly grounds, leading to horrible 60 cycle hum and crackling noises. The hardware is pretty much junk. Unsealed tuners, very cheap materials on bridge (very thin casting), 250k pots, no shielding, and lastly no setup at all. I asked for a replacement but they sent seafoam green instead of black which is what I originally bought. Aside from being color blind, this one hums and hisses worse than the first. ... show more

  • Buy this Guitar!
Color: Metallic Gray
First off I cannot believe this guitar was only $98 plus tax delivered. Before I get to the guitar the gig bag that it came with was a 7 on a scale of 10 which I was very happy. Now for the guitar, the sound was so bad that I thought something was wrong with the pickups and I debated gambling on whether to spend the money to replace the strings to find out if that was it or it was the pickups and send it back. I'm glad that I decided to change the strings because the guitar afterwards plays amazingly! Not only is it a beautiful guitar finish wise but also the neck is very well played with a nice thin C shape. All I've done is make a few minor aesthetic changes such as the Knobs and the Jack plate. The setup on the guitar came low with absolutely zero fret buzz which surprised me because usually in this price range I have to do a minor setup. The frets were smooth with nice polished round ends and no sprout at all. I would definitely recommend this guitar for anyone who's starting or once a guitar to mod. ... show more

  • Quality control is very inconsistent
Color: Metallic Gray
This is my second GST-200 guitar. The first one, in daphne blue color, is an excellent guitar that literally plays itself right out of the box. That one has zero flaws in the finish, the neck was set up perfectly, and all of the frets are properly crowned with the fret ends rounded. This guitar doesn't come close to being played well out of the box. First, the nut was cut too high, making all of the chords in the lower frets sound completely out of tune despite tuning each open string perfectly. Second, there are a few frets that are not properly seated so the high E string kept getting caught in the fret ends. Third, the metallic gray finish is inconsistent. There are pockets in the finish where the metallic specks seem to pool in one spot while other areas seem like the specks are spread out more. This happens when the paint is applied on one thick coat as opposed to several thin coats. This means that the guitar was rushed out the door without any care or proper setup. Moreover, there's a giant gouge over the top of the pickguard between the volume knob and the bridge pickup. At first I thought that it was just a gouge on the protective plastic layer but the gouge was deep enough to cut right into the pickguard itself. Given that I had such a great experience with the daphne blue one, it leads me to conclude that the quality control is inconsistent and unreliable. You may be lucky and get one that plays amazingly like the daphne blue one that I have or get one that is poor in quality and execution. This guitar is not all bad. I can confirm that the fretboard is indeed real rosewood. The bridge pickup sounds pretty good with the output hot enough to drive a tube amp but not too hot that it's impossible to get a clean tone. The neck and middle single-coil pickups are a bit weak and don't blend well with the bridge pickup even in a coil-split mode. They still sound pretty decent and have bright strat tones. One thing that was consistent between this guitar and the daphne blue one is that the tuning machines were not properly placed on the headstock. It was done in a way that all six strings were slightly pitched to the right after they cleared the nut when they were supposed to be pitched straight back. This makes tuning the strings very difficult because there is a kink in the string causing it to occasionally get stuck in the nut slot. Given that I had such a great experience with the daphne blue one of the GST-200 guitars, I was a bit hesitant to give this a 1 star. Who knows, maybe you'll luck out and get a guitar that plays amazingly right out of the box like I did. However, this guitar is one that seems to not get the care and attention it was supposed to prior to leaving the factory so the best I can do is rate this guitar 3 stars. ... show more

  • Great value
Color: Metallic Gray
I bought this not knowing how nice the fret work really is. It was great the way it came but I also bought as I wanted to mod a guitar and at $98 this was the one. Tuners… opted to change out to locking tuners. Strings gage too much for my fretting hand after surgery recovery. Went with 8-38, put chrome color knobs and painted headstock to somewhat match the body. Well worth the money. ... show more

  • Worth the money if you can do basic set up .
Color: Metallic Gray
I am impressed with the overall quality . The paint and clear coat are flawless, the neck is laser straight and thin like an Ibanez the frets are level and polished. As far as pickups they sound fine but I will probably change them anyway. Alnico 2 in the neck and middle and a alnico 5 humbucker in the bridge for some juicy jazz . The ash body is nice and heavy, the way I like it, so if you want a light weight guitar go for poplar. The down side is the nut was cut very narrow and was very chimey plus the action was a little high. If you can do the setup stuff this thing is worth the price. ... show more

  • Absolutely gorgeous guitar!
Color: Metallic Gray
I've been a guitar player for almost 50 years. Needless to say, I know guitars through and through. This guitar is a real winner! It was carefully packaged with adequate padding. The beautiful finish is flawless! The neck is straight and the strings line up with the fret board perfectly. The ball end frets are beautifully polished and the Rosewood fret board is gorgeous! The tuning keys are good and they look so cool! Most of all, I love the sound of this guitar. This guitar resonates better than my Kramer Pacer that I recently purchased. I'm not going to change anything on guitar. Thanks! ... show more
