I just embedded the watering tank into the pot of a newly acquired lemon tree. The tree's roots aren't long enough to reach the bottom of the pot yet, but the tank is clearly keeping soil most at bottom half of the pot because my top watering keeps soil moist for days (and tank has taken a couple of half-gallon refills already). The tank is easy to refill using a funnel with exposed tube. I think once tree is better established I won't have to top water very often. Note: it was hard to compress expandable tank into a 15" diameter pot, so won't fit anything smaller. ... show more

I purchased this as a way to keep a plant in a large pot on my deck watered, hoping it would it them evenly moist. 1) the installation instructions are meager, confusing, and incomplete. 2) In retrospect I should have examined the item more closely before installing it, but when I did install it and try to fill it with water, the water all leaked out the bottom of my pot and the level indicator did not rise. I think it must have had a tear in the membrane it that I failed to notice - and now that it is buried under a large plant in its pot, I do not wish to try to extricate it. It is good to help keep plants watered when we are traveling. Easy to install and use. Once it is in pot it is not noticeable.

I make my own self watering pots/planters. Its a lot of work. Thought I would give this one try. The "water sink" or felt band is okay. I don't feel like it is wide enough for what I need. I do like the spout that tells you how full the reservoir is. Good feature.

This device seems well-designed. I installed it in a container with a dwarf avocado tree. Like all young avocados, it needs regular moisture (but not a soggy environment), so I'm hopeful that this device will provide appropriate irrigation, rather than having the tree depend on my forgetfulness. I ordered this for my mother's birthday and she loves it! She only had one on her list, but I ordered two because I saw a lot of potential for something like this. From what I saw, assembly was easy and she was able to quickly set this up in an empty pot. As of now, her plant's soil is adequately soiled and she has an easy way to refill it when she's ready. ... show more

There were no illustrations of what each part should look like. You had to assume what each one was. I made the mistake of assuming the plastic "bobber" was the "straw" and destroyed it by cutting it. Also you had to assume what the capilliary strip was and where to put it. I put it inside the reservoir instead of outside. The overall concept of the product is good but you have to know how to set it up. Unfortunately the whole thing was ruined because of inadequate instructions. ... show more

It leaked all over. Waste of money. If you fill up too much, water comes out the top holes of the plastic reservoir. Then continued to leak after water level was low. Bobber does not move up as there are holes in the plastic tube. Get a self watering pot or create your own for less money.
