When I first received this, I thought, something is wrong here - no way a 100 foot hose fit in that tiny box. Once I got it out and connected it up, I was even more certain - this isn't just a little bit short, it's 50 feet long if even that. But, the label on the box clearly said it was 100 feet long "when expanded." So let's be fair and give it a try. Oddly, there was a ball valve on the far end of the hose, so you can turn it off without even attaching a spray nozzle. I closed this valve and turned on the water... OK, that's interesting, it's growing quite a bit! Then I attached the spray nozzle, opened the ball valve, and started spraying as you normally do. The result was remarkable - every time I'd start and stop the spray, the hose would writhe around like a living serpent, getting longer each time. Sure enough, it was stretching out amazingly, exactly as advertised! While I didn't actually measure it with a tape, this is indeed a very long hose, and who knows how much longer it might have grown had I played with it longer. This has to be far and away the longest hose in the smallest package I've ever seen, which makes it ideal for portable or emergency use - e.g. if your neighbor's water is broken and you're letting them use some of yours. Then I turned off the water and disconnected the hose - sure enough, it shrunk right back down to its original size. Now, I have a hard time seeing this hose as super durable, it's just too stretchy. The first time it encounters something sharp, it's toast - though if the break is closer to one end, apparently you can remove the end connector, cut out the broken part, and re-mount the connector to be left with a shorter but working hose. The instructions also warn not to leave it out in the sun, which suggests it's made out of plastic that breaks down under UV radiation - not uncommon in general, but certainly not normal for garden hoses. But that's OK - just don't leave it hanging on your garden-hose hook. Only bring it out when you really need a super-long hose for some reason, use it with care, and it will do very well. I would give this a 5-star rating, except that I notice there is another identical listing for what appears to be the exact same hose, only in black instead of purple, and for the same price - but, that other listing also includes a spray nozzle attachment. So unless you are very attached to the admittedly attractive purple color of this particular hose, you may as well buy the other one and get a spray nozzle for free. ... show more

This is an odd hose. I guess the look and feel of the old traditional green hoses of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and more have been imprinted on my wee brain. So, this is an odd hose. I have it for one area only, my front door and the landscaping to either side of it. It has its own hose holder and is the only hose used from my front water spigot. I haven’t had any trouble with the hose but we’ve had rain almost every day in South Florida from June until early October, about 3 weeks ago. I’ve used the hose since then and it works like any other hose. The fact that it lengthens during use may be important to me in the future, but isn’t now. I got it because it is lightweight. Today, I can handle heavy, 100-foot long water hoses but with Parkinson’s I have no way to predict if and when those heavy, regular hoses will be too much for me. That’s when I’ll need lighter ones like this if I want to manage them myself. As mentioned, I have yet to use it much, but so far, this hose does what I got it for without problems. ... show more

I am using this hose for a few plants in my back patio area. It works well for me because there are no big obstructions that could damage it. I like how lightweight the hose is and it keeps more of its shape with no water in it so I can easily hang it on a hose holder. The material that it is made out of makes me think it will last longer than the others. It is nice that if I do get a leak, I can repair it myself by cutting it out and relocating the nozzle. The only odd thing I would mention is that when the hose is shut off and pressure is built up in it, it expands to a long length, but the minute I open the valve to water the plants, the hose shrinks up quite a bit. This is a lot like the other shrinking hoses, but it does not shrink up as small and maybe it only seems that way because it does keep it’s shape instead of shriveling up. All in all, a very user-friendly hose that is quite easy to find in the garden due to its color. ... show more
