  • Good for a close shave.
Style: FlexSeries
I’m in my mid-30s and have been dealing with hair loss since my mid-20s. I hate it. I hate the way my hair looks being all thin and missing-like. So, I thought I’d just start shaving it. Like I’d rather be totally bald than bald-ish. So I got this thing, trimmed the length down using Wahl clippers and then shaved it bald with the Freebird. It works well. It makes for a very close and smooth shave with enough passes. I like to shave my head while I’m watching TV. It’s noisy, but not so noisy I can’t hear the TV. It also does a great job about capturing the hair you shave. It doesn’t make a mess everywhere, and it’s very easy to clean. I rinse the head really well after I’m done shaving, and after maybe a weak, I put the entire head in a ball jar with a bit of rubbing alcohol and give it a good shake. Not sure if that’s recommended but it’s what I do. Don’t forget to clean under the center blade. It twists off and is separate from the other blades. ... show more

  • really nice for daily use, makes shaving a breeze
Style: FlexSeries
overall i'm really satisfied with this head shaver. i haven't tried any others like this before and always wondered about em. now that i'm at a point in my life where my hair has thinned out and stopped growing on top of my head, i'd rather just keep myself completely shaved bald than look like a franciscan monk... so i've been using a regular razor, just a two blade with dollar shave club, and it's been such a hassle to shave that way and make sure i got all the spots around the back of my head... it's time consuming and the feel of the blade scraping on my skull gets old fast. so i've been lazy with it, just shaving about once a week just bc i hate doing it. now with this little guy here i can shave my head in the shower in just a few minutes and be confident that it got my whole head cleanly. so now i've worked it into my daily shower routine. personally i prefer to lather my head each time with some barbasol. i tried it dry once and never again, just didn't work for me, was a rough shave that way. i tried it with just water and it worked better but it was still rough to slide across my scalp, wasn't a smooth grip. lathering up my head first produces a nice smooth grip each time. i like that it came with so many attachments too. and a neat bonus is the precision popup razor for detail if you need it. but honestly i don't really use those things (the nose trimmer is awkward to use bc it's like holding a computer mouse up to your face, not really a well shaped device for that purpose). it's nice to have them available though. worth noting there are some offbrand replacement shaver heads for this available which are essentially identical and work just fine. oh, also the battery life has been really nice, lasts over a week on a single charge (that's being used only a few minutes a day on my part). i've just started a habit though of charging it each weekend. i don't really feel like exhausting it completely just to see what the battery life is. i don't really care at this point, i love this thing. ... show more

  • Second update:
Style: FlexSeries Pro
1/18/25 Update: Battery still discharging after 4 days of not using the shaver. I really don't have to shave my head daily because my hair grows pretty slowly. Freebird customer service saw my review and reached out 1/14. They are sending me a replacement out under warranty, which is appreciated. Hopefully the replacement will hold a charge. Upgraded to 4 stars again for now thanks to the quick customer service. Update 1/14: Battery doesn't hold a charge well. Got 1 shave out of it and have to charge it each time. Now I'm on the fence about if I need to go ahead and file for a replacement or see how it goes, but getting 1 shave per charge is a lil wild. Original: Got it last night and charged it. Woke up this morning to shave and went to work. At first this thing was going through my hair fairly efficiently, but definitely missing a small spot here and there I'd have to run over the same spot a bit to get it. The issue was that by the time I got to the back half of my head, it was missing a lot of hair. Since I got the pro, I just stopped and popped the foils off and found that my hair was clogging the underside of the foils and not collecting in the chamber efficiently. I cleaned the underside of the foils with a brush quickly, and was back in business. To do my entire head required that I do this process twice. Not the worst issue, but my specific hair type doesn't seem to do anything, but clog. I have pretty soft/fine hair that I've kept buzzed/shaved, since I turned 30. It's just the most efficient use of time. I'll also be honest and say I didn't trim right before because I had buzzed and shaved with a razor a week prior. I had short stubble, but now my head looks better than buzzing without a guard using an Andis and closer to razor blade territory. Also, I do have a few small bumps on my noggin and this made short work of the hair regardless and didn't require too much time to get the hair in those areas. I'd say all in...maybe 7-10 minutes. The jury is still out on whether I'll get an electric razor rash, but so far I'm a fan. The noise level is better than my Panasonic beard trimmer or my Andis electric clipper. I did a dry shave and honestly with brushing the foils out, I could have skipped rinsing. The final caveat is the need to replace foils at 50 shaves, but we'll see how that goes. I'd imagine with my hair type, it should last quite a bit longer. I'd assume with thick coarse hair, that would be closer to the truth. Solid 4/5 because it isn't as efficient as I'd like and took a bit of passing over some of the same spots trying to get rogue hairs. Then there's having to brush out the hair three times to get the results I'd like. This will definitely make shaving less of a chore and I'll be more likely to grow out less in-between. ... show more
