You do need to buy batteries for the control, but the rechargeable batter for the actual car last for a long time without needed to be charged again. It was the best Christmas gift! My daughter didn’t even want to open other gifts. You will need 2 AA batteries for the controller and one rechargeable battery for the car is included. We’re waiting for the warmer weather to try it out side. It will be more fun at the wide open area.
