  • Good chair for stand-up height desks, has some issues
Color: Gold Style: Drafting Chair
I purchased this chair to accompany a stand-up height desk I was building for my office. The height is perfect for said application. After about 6 months of use I have this to offer as a review: The comfort and support are good. The mesh is breathable and comfortable for long stints of work. The chair is fairly lightweight and easy to assemble and adjust. The biggest shortcomings are the damper and the footrest. After about 3 months, the damper started to fail - this results in inconsistent loading and weird feel. I find myself manually adjusting the height every time I use it, and then it returns to a different height overnight. The leg rest doesn't like to stay where it's told either. After a few days of use, I find myself adjusting it to stop it wobbling. I have the adjustment knob turned all the way in, with no real hold. For these reasons I give the chair 2 stars, mostly because I feel these issues will continue to get worse as it ages. I expected more from a chair at this price point I guess. ... show more

  • Easy set up, great chair for the price
Color: Gold Style: Drafting Chair
Note up front, some people complained that the front of the seat digs into their legs. I wonder if they installed the seat backwards. The instructions seem misleading and at first I did the same. See photo. But the photo of the chair on the site makes it clear that the sloping side of the seat goes toward the front. After I switched it around, totally comfortable and no way the frame or rim can dig into your leg, you're just resting on the cushion curved mesh at front. Assembly took me about 40 minutes working very slowly (and stopping to watch the Grammys). It is not difficult at all. Just about three sets of screws and the tool to screw them in with. Only one set of screws used washers and the instructions advise tightening everything once every 6 months. Realistically, we know that nobody is going to do that, so I wonder how long till it gets squeaky and falls apart if you lift to move it. I put the spare parts and the little allen wrench in a plastic baggie with the one sheet assembly instructions and tucked it under the seat. But of course I'll never remember it's there or that I should tighten the screws. The chair seems much nicer than I expected for the price. I took a tape measure before ordering to see if the height adjustment would suit my needs. At its lowest setting, it's 2 in. higher than my current office chair, and I can't quite rest my feet flat on the floor, but the metal footrest is perfect at that height. So really I love it. I'm 5-8. At the highest setting it is great as a high stool for drafting table or stand-up desk. The raising and lowering mechanism works perfectly, at least right now. There are little hints of its cheapness if you look for them. Like, mystery unused holes, I assume on a part mass manufactured and used in different types of chairs. See photo. And there were blemishes in the finish, visible when you look closely. It looks like my chair had about a 2-inch scratch that they painted over with touch-up. But absolutely no problem for me, the chair looks great and works well so far. I like that the arms fold up, in case I want to pull the chair right up to the desk. I miss that they are height-adjustable, like on my 4-times-more-expensive office chair...they are a little low for my elbows but I will adapt. I can tilt them up a bit and as long as I don't lean heavily on them, they will support without folding all the way down to horizontal low position. I unboxed it yesterday and it still has that overwhelming strong plastic odor. No doubt that will fade away and not kill any of us in the meantime. ... show more

  • The most horrible chair ever. Ever!
Color: Gold Style: Drafting Chair
Well America we did it to ourselves. In our never ending thirst for cheap prices so we can buy, buy, buy, we have become the laughing stock of China, and well, Amazon as well. To illustrate I present "the most horribly packaged, built, and uncomfortable chair ever produced". I knew as soon as it arrived. It was packaged with that flimsy cardboard, yellowed tape, dirty styrofoam, and the bubble wrap that looks as if it were dragged across some filthy factory floor to it's final resting place... your products package. Being a Christmas present from the wife, I dug in with the foolish hope the product would make up for the disgusting packaging it arrived in. "Ha! Sillry American you no get good product! Tough ruck Joe!" I could hear them laughing at me all the way from ShengDung. The finish is scrapped off in some areas, one of the riser arms is cracked, and the base that it all sits on is made of plastic I can bend with my hands, AKA, gonna break. Chuckling to myself, I now have to decide whether I throw it all in the box or what's left of the box it came in, tape it up and tell Amazon to come get it, or to press on and build it and see how ridiculous it continues to get. "PRESS ON!" scream the crowds! Voila! The final product emerges! I scurry off to the bathroom to wash my hands free of the oil and dirt that have accumulated from building this fine Chinese product with one final hope that all will be well... I emerge from the needed handwashing and start sizing up the chair. Should I lower the seat so I have less distance to fall if it all collapses when I sit on it? Should I trust the casters not to roll out from under me on the floor or move it to the rug to prevent that? How about the seat? I'm 195 pounds... What happens if the webbing of the seat gives way and I give myself a giant enema with the base post. Will I be able to have it removed in time for Christmas morning??? Oh the thoughts!!!! Oh the humanity!! I decide to lower the seat to it's lowest point AND move it to the carpet. Safety is a priority of mine and never reading about anyone being enema'd by a chair, I throw caution to the wind and carefully, ever so carefully, lower my glutius maximus down.... Amazing! It doesn't collapse OR roll out from under me! Hmmm. Was I wrong? Am I too critical of a $150 chair? It does fit the bill of being cheap so I can continue to buy, buy, buy. But I do work hard for my money and absolutely hate it when I feel like I got taken. Oh the conundrum! I sit back and ponder it all... "Can I be wrong? Can the Chinese be right? Did they produce a decent product at a somewhat reasonable cost all the while paying their workers such meager wages??? Nope. It becomes clear the chair was not designed with any clue of waht a comfortable chair is. The front of the seat base is so high it cuts circulation off to your feet and basically just hurts. The back "lumbar" area sticks out so far it pushes you forward compounding the seat issue and does nothing for lower back support. the arms have one height setting and it obviously wasn't meant for me, 5'10". Back it goes. I think Amazon should do two things; on the product page disclose the Country of Origin. Help us folks decide who to buy from, and two, provide an option on the return page that says "product just plain sucks." That's what I am going to write in the comment section after I select "product not as described'. This ain't a chair, it's a medieval torture device. So fellow Americans, my hope is that we all start to call a spade a spade, support good companies and embrace the notion of spending money on more high-quality items and less of it on junk just to have more. That's my Christmas wish to you all! Merry Christmas 2019. ... show more
