Description

The TS req is not your standard Circular saw. With its accuracy and versatility, a better comparison would be to the most advanced Table saws, Miter saws or panel saws available. Add in its incredible portability and unbelievable ease of use, and you have a precision-cutting solution like No other, at home in the highest-end cabinet shop as well as an Onsite remodel. With the addition of Micro-Adjustable depth controls and a Flat housing for flush-cutting against walls or adjacent surfaces, the TS 55 req is our most advanced plunge cut saw ever, which is saying a lot.

  • Small Shop Savior
I am a mechanical design engineer of over 35 years. I have enjoyed woodworking for most of my 58 years. Yet, I avoided purchasing a table saw. Perhaps it was because I have worked with others who have lost digits due to shop accidents. While I like to try to employ safe techniques in my work, I have (as most others would agree) been in situations where my technique or other variables caused tools to separate from my hand. Many times, luck was on my side in avoidance of injury. When I started building a project that required the cutting (ripping) of long pieces of 4 by 8, 3/4 Inch plywood, I reviewed my choices: 1. Bosch Table Saw - Great quality. Relatively safe with blade guards in place. Big hassle trying to safely cut long rips in a large, bulky, almost 70 pound piece of material. Shop size required 16 feet long axis to feed material through saw. 2. Sawstop - Average to poor build quality. Great safety system. Same hassles with handling and shop size as Bosch. This brought me to Festool and its track saw. If you watch This Old House, you'll see Festool track saws often in their programs. The pros recognize its strengths: laser straight splinter free cuts, ease of set up and use and safety. With a track saw, the wood stays stationary and the saw moves, with both hands, over the wood to make the cut. Critical partner for the track saw is a solid support table with enough closely spaced supports to keep the wood and saw stable. Do a web search for "track saw table." Lot's of great ideas on how to build one. The one that I built uses only 2 by 4's , carriage bolts and nuts that is supported by by workmate and a saw horse. Please see "Using a track saw to process sheet goods by Mike Sloggatt" on Youtube for a great concept. Another advantage of this saw? Long, up to 8 foot wide, cross cuts. Try that on your miter or table saw ! ... show more

  • This is an excellent saw.
This saw makes cutting sheet goods SO much easier than trying to handle a full sheet of, for example, plywood on a table saw. The set up is easy and the cut is both exact and super smooth. I cut a 1" think sheet of birch plywood and both the top and bottom edges next to the blade were completely free of tear out and the cut looked like it had been done with a laser. No doubt this is an expensive tool and it is made more expensive by the fact that the tracks and track connectors have to be purchased separately, but if you are looking for a means of making perfect cuts, this is the way to go. I know that Dewalt, Makita and others make similar tool and, having never used those, I can not compare between the brands but, if you are able to afford this one, I can say you will not be sorry you did so. ... show more

  • Wow....where had this been in my woodworking life...
This thing is great. Yes it cut sheet wood easy and accurately. But is also great for a subtle tapered long cut on any (hard) woods.

  • Do it right with tools that work
Yes they are expensive but I'd rather have the right tool than pay someone to do it. I needed to trim some doors and this allowed me to make perfect cuts with the guide rail. Yes a person skilled with a circular saw and straight edge could do it with less tools. This system let me with no skills trim a perfect 1/2 inch off the hollow core door and then cut to lengths so I could nail the bottom back on with blocking. I then was able to cut two solid doors to the correct lengths with no tear out and perfect edges. ... show more

  • Not sure if worth the high dollar
If I had not bought this on sale, I probably would have bought another brand just to save money. I think the saw overall is very well built and does what it is supposed to. I think something that costs a little bit less could probably suffice. So, I won't say it's worth the extra money. I will say that having a track saw is wonderful and I wish I had bought it sooner. ... show more

  • Thrilled!
It is a Festool and that says it all! Spot on accurate, little to no tear out, light, great track system. Love it. If I still hae it in 5 years I will love it even more! Yeah it has a lot of plastic, but I do take care of my tools and the case it comes with is outstanding!

  • Great way to break down large sheet goods
I love this tool. I use it constantly to cut 4 x 8 veneered plywood sheets down to size for further processing in my wood shop. Very accurate cuts and clean. Rivals my table saw for crispness of cuts. Has a smooth starting mechanism so no jerking or misses on sawing true to the track. Slightly more expensive than some other makes, but well worth it. A premium tool for any shop or project. ... show more

  • Ultimate track saw- crazy high priced accessories.
The saw is very well made, it has the most complete feature set and it makes beautifully smooth cuts. The down side is the cost of not just the saw but the tracks and all the accessories needed to make it useful. Also the dust port connection only works with Festool hoses. I bought a Festool connector and am trying to adapt it to my vacuum but something this simple shouldn't be so hard. The $250 knock-off Triton saw I've been using came with two dust adapters one of which fit my vacuum just fine. ... show more
