First, it has an ON switch, LOL, which is not mentioned in the user guide, nor in the troubleshooting guide! It's not hidden, but not obvious, either. The unit is a little flimsy, and there is no liner, though it does have a bottom. (So if your garbage bag leaks, it will at least be contained in the trash can, maybe. Of course, cleaning it is going to be a chore!) The sensor is infrared and isn't as sensitive as it could be. My hand is within the arc of the door by the time it actuates, so the door is constantly bumping my hand and stopping in a partially open position. I think I like stepping on a foot pedal better. But I think I got what I paid for. Similar bins are twice the price, but I think I'll just stick to the manual bins from now on. ... show more

I've been using it regularly in my kitchen for a xouple months and I havnt had to replace the batteries they are still going strong. My only complaint if I had to would be if the top could stay open just a bit longer duration sometimes I have more than one thing to throw out and it closes on me. Beautiful, clean, and very impressive! A conversation piece even! 😂 Butttt it’s just shy of 6 months, and it sputters and stalls and just isn’t working. We’ve cleaned it thoroughly , all the cracks and crevices in case the sensor was somehow blocked, and we have changed the batteries twice. Still it sounds like there’s someone quickly tap tap tap-ing… very sad cause I really did love this! ... show more

This was my first time buying a garbage can with the motion detection feature and it's actually pretty cool. First off, I was going from a tall cylindrical garbage can to this item which is shorter, wider, and rectangular which is definitely a plus as it's much easier to dump in garbage from smaller cans that I have in the bathroom and bedroom. The motion detection feature isn't as sensitive as I've seen from other reviewers who complained that the can opened every time they walked by it. I have a small kitchen and I'm literally in front of it when standing working on the counter and the can does not open. I actually have to wave my hand in close proximity to get it to open. Since this is not a step activated can, it doesn't have the hinge that my old can had and was scratching my refrigerator and the lid doesn't hit the wall or refrigerator like my old can did. My only complaint is that the lid will close shut rather quickly even if you are working in front of it dumping multiple garbage items at one time. It will close on me and them I have to re-wave my hand to get it to open again so that I can finish dumping the garbage. Otherwise, this is a much more useful garbage can than the one that I just replaced. ... show more

I love this item. I had to get an indoor trashcan with a lid to keep the air born insects away. It does that. When I bought it I figured the automatic lid open and close system was a joke and would be superfluous. It's not. It's very practical, works every time and I have come to love it.
