    • Best pillow yet for broad shouldered guy

I am a 73 year old, side sleeper, 5 '11" tall, 185 Lb. with somewhat broad shoulders, tho I am not an athlete. My issue has always been getting proper support for my neck AND my head. My prior pillow, also purchased on Amazon, was the Coop Home Goods Original Loft Pillow. While it was the best pillow I had used, I rarely woke up the next morning without some neck discomfort OR shoulder pain. I am curious how prevalent shoulder pain is among side sleepers. I think it comes from the head and neck not being propped up high enough and level enough, so that extra weight is brought to bear on the shoulder supporting the body. The Famedio pillow seems to have solved that for me. I did need to contact them and ask them to send me the extra pad. In fact, I needed two pads to prop my head and neck up sufficiently. The result with their pillow, is my neck feels fine in the morning and i have no shoulder pain. Also, I fall asleep in about 30 minutes, vs. 45 minutes to an hour with my former pillow. Also, I sleep more peacefully, as my blankets aren't all messed up on the bed when i wake. I have only been using this setup for a week, but my sleep changes have been pretty consistent, night after night, so I am comfortable writing this review. One hint for people using a pad; I tried putting inside the famedio pillow case, stuffing it into the zippered underside of the pillow. However, doing this requires that a snap be unsnapped. This snap helps create the cavity for your head. With it unsnapped, I found too much of the benefit from the 3D landscape of the pillow was lost. This was not a problem however, as I took out the pad, resnapped the pillow, and simply placed the pad (actually 2 pads), directly under the pillow. The pillow and the two pads stay together well enough. Sure, I would like a more elegant solution, but this one seems to work well. Call me a happy camper that is getting his sleep now! ... show more

    • A Different Kind of Pillow
I'm in my mid sixties and have been in enough wrecks to feel the wear and tear on my neck, especially as I get older. I found that having my neck in particular positions while sleeping would cause neck and shoulder pain. Keeping my neck in a neutral position while sleeping helps. As a slide sleeper having my pillow come up to support my neck while still allowing my head to go down helps out. I would try to do that with a few different pillows I purchased but this meant pulling and adjusting the pillow in ways that would get out of adjustment as I slept and moved in my sleep. The design of this pillow is naturally built that way. It's a soft but dense foam shaped in ways designed to support your neck. It does not change shapes and the side that is meant to lay on the bed is flat so the pillow doesn't move unless you intentionally want to move it. The side you sleep on has two different sides that would seem to help accommodate different people's needs. The center of the pillow sinks down so that when my head hits the center of the pillow my neck seems to be pretty well lined up with my spine. So I can sleep on my right side with little to no shoulder pain of which I had with other pillows most of the time (especially when I had worked that shoulder that day). I also find that I don't have as much loss of blood flow to the arm I'm sleeping on. If you like to pull your arm up under your pillow, this pillow accommodates that comfortably. I was surprised about that due to the flat nature of the bed side of the pillow. I've laid on my back and found that it is very comfortable that way also. You will probably want to use a pillow case though it comes with a removable cover. If so, I recommend you use a pillow case that is large enough to allow the pillow to move as it was designed to. I put it into a regular sized cotton pillow case that was too small and it was uncomfortable. Instead of going with a larger cotton pillow case I used a pillow case that was made out of some material that was very stretchable and it's great. So I highly recommend this pillow. Very supportive,neck pain relief,very comfy,i would’ve rated this a five star but there are no directions to take the cover off!! You have to unsnap the button in the middle once the cover is off and then vice versa putting it back on!!
