  • Excellent camera system
Excellent camera system. It can be tied into the backup light system or it can run all the time. It comes in a nice box with all of the components separated. The instructions are ok and installation is simple and straight forward. There is more than one way to install the display. If you have an open double din device mounting place, it can be installed flush in the dash or whatever you are mounting it in. Or use the included 4 legged stand. Excellent picture. I believe that it is reasonably priced, especially for what you get. Overall I would recommend this to anyone needing a backup camera system. Edit. I have now used this backup camera system for quite some time. It is indeed an excellent system. The picture on the display is sharp and clear. Setup is a snap. Picture upside down because of camera mounting? No problem. Just use the setting to flip the picture. The night time pic is good. The built in IR LED's work well. I still recommend this system for anyone needing a back up camera. It could also be used in a truck to monitor the blind spot when going down the road. Overall? Excellent. ... show more

  • Hard Wired systems are the way to go if you can.
I installed this system in a shuttle bus that was repurposed to a band's touring bus. In this case using a hardwired system was very easy since the inside is open all the way back.. The bus is 26' long and the amount of cable supplied was more than enough. The rear camera mounts very easily. Although, you do need to remove the camera from the bracket to mount the bracket itself. It's a bit of a puzzle putting the shade hood and camera back in the bracket. I drilled a 20mm (3/4") hole to pass the cable through into the vehicle. There is a grommet on the cable that plugs the hole. I put some RV silicone on the grommet to make the seal waterproof. The monitor can be mounted a number of ways. There is a holder that will let you mount it on a flat surface, it kind of looks like a picture frame. I did not use that, I used the pedestal and mounted it overhead. The pedestal mount will let you raise and lower the monitor as well as tilt and rotate it to find a good viewing angle. The pedestal mount is pretty secure but a little wobbly when hanging upside down. I put a little bit of the fuzzy part of velcro under the base where it rotates and that helped it stay steady. The monitor lets you adjust the video feed in a number of ways, flipping and rotating it. Once you set it it will default to that setting every time you turn it on. This system can be set to either be on all the time or only when you have it in reverse. The power hook up has three leads, ground (earth) = Black -, Power = Red (+) and Green (to reverse lights) which is not use if you want to use the monitor all the time or used if you only want the monitor on when backing up. In that case the green needs to be hooked up to your backup lights. I wanted to use the monitor all the time so I taped off the green wire and hooked the red wire to a switched power source, meaning it's only powered when the car is running or key in ACC. The monitor will go to the last setting when powered up which is nice. If you had it on it will just come on when you start the car. The video picture is very clear. The monitor color, brightness and contrast settings you can adjust. The monitor has the capability to hook up two cameras. It only come with one, the rear one, but I obtained a side camera (eye socket type) and installed that on the right side. You can toggle between the feeds with a button on the monitor or the supplied remote. All in all this is a pretty nice system. ... show more

  • Excellent Camera/Monitor but much more difficult to install than is necessary.
I'll start by saying the camera and monitor for this package are very good. Once I had it set up, I got a good, solid, clear picture. I would easily give this 5 stars and a rave review but for some shortcomings. I'll also note that when I e-mailed eRapta with a question, I got a reply within minutes with a good answer. That's outstanding customer service. Here are what I see as the shortcomings of the system - all of which I believe eRapta could easily fix. 1. There are no directions to speak of, and no wiring diagram. I'm fairly handy, but this is my first backup camera installation, so I had to rely on Google to learn the particulars. (As it turns out, the eRapta system is a little different from others, so this had drawbacks). When I contacted eRapta with my connection question, I was told if I wanted the system to work only when backing, to just connect the green (trigger) wire AND the red power wire both to the reverse switch. The 3-sentence instructions say to connect the green to the reverse switch, the red to power, and the black to ground. eRapta spent a lot of effort on excellent packaging. I think they - and we - would have been better off if they had spent some of that on instructions and a diagram instead. 2. The camera must be removed from its mounting bracket to be installed. Once the mounting bracket is installed, the camera must be reattached and this is much harder than it needs to be. You can't really see to line up the holes of the camera, the bracket, and the sun shield. I dropped the tiny screws enough times I'm lucky I didn't lose one. I found it impossible to reattach the small red washers as well, since there was no way to hold them in place along with the camera, sun shield and screw. eRapta could design the bracket with slots instead of holes, or make it slightly wider than the camera so you could attach it to the vehicle without removing the camera. I'm sure there are other solutions as well. But re-mounting the camera was a tedious, frustrating experience. I got it done, though. 3. eRapta provides no indication on the camera as to which end is up - it's symmetrical. I had read this could be corrected on the monitor, so I didn't worry about it. Sure enough, I got it upside down. When I corrected it on the monitor, the displayed menu items became upside down. So I got to remove, flip, and reattach the camera. This was still a tedious, frustrating experience. 4. Googling wiring for backup cameras, I learned the most common place to connect to a switched backup wire (so the system isn't always on) is through a vehicle's backup light. After some effort, I isolated the correct wire and connected to it. When I tried to add the long cable to the front of the truck, I discovered the wiring harness must be wired into power and backup lights (if you want it on only when backing up) in the front of the vehicle. Finding a backup wire in the back of the vehicle is pretty easy. Finding one in the dashboard is hard. I can't think of any reason the camera system needed to be designed this way. Use of the same type of connectors throughout would have allowed the ability to assemble the wiring with the connections in front or back. But the monitor end has a different type of connector than the camera end and is the only place you can provide power. If you want the system on whenever the vehicle is running, this is less of a problem. Finding a switched hot wire up front shouldn't be too hard. It's a good system for the price - but be prepared for some hair-tearing if you plan to install it yourself, especially if you want it on only when backing up. ... show more

  • Too big
Size: 7 inch
This camera seems awesome. But I never got to use it because the monitor is simply too big. There is nowhere I can 'permanently' install in my car that is not interfering with my infotainment system or my sight out of the windshield. I need a front camera and do not care about the size of the screen. You should offer a 5" screen or smaller. ... show more
