I would highly recommend this camera as a replacement for a factory camera that is damaged or for installing a camera in an older vehicle. This camera has worked extremely well for my '99 F350 Power stroke. I had to install a double din with input for the reverse camera, run the video wire along the frame and hook the power line into the reverse light power so install is heavily dependant on your skill level (especially if you never had a reverse camera before) but the camera itself is extremely easy to install, has great night time illumination and a great picture. Never have to worry about not seeing something run behind me when backing up, and makes coupling horse trailers extremely easy. Just a great camera at a good price point. ... show more

    • Impressive Camera quality and a really nice metal build
So here is a hint for everyone that purchases this product. When you install it, and it is very easy to install, don't get alarmed if the screen says "No signal" or it appears the camera is not working. On the connection there are two looped wires, one white and one green. If the camera doesn't work after you install it, just cut the white wire...just clip it in half. After that the camera will work great. I have a Boss aftermarket head-unit in my truck and I got the "No Signal" message also. After I cut that wire, everything was great ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Product is sturdy and has nice black finish. Looks great on rear of my Excursion. Simple plug and play made it stress free. One thing I will add. On the yellow Aux cord there is a red wire. That wire hooks to your back up wire on radio harness. And the one on back up camera hooks to Red wire on your back u lights. That way when you put in reverse the camera will automatically switch. Great product for the price. ... show more

EDIT: So I am dumb, there is a green wire loop (easily accessed) that you cut to get rid of the guide lines built in to the camera. With that I can use the adjustable lines in my head unit which is quite helpful. 5 stars for this product. ORIGINAL: I have had this installed in my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis for about 2 years now (plugged into an aftermarket Boss BE7ACP head unit) and it works great. The only reason for the 3 star review is the camera puts in the stupid guide lines for your car which might be useful for smaller cars but mine is so wide they are not accurate and they are not adjustable. My head unit allows for adding some on top of the picture and adjusting them to your car but with these in the background it looks awful. Overall though the camera portion does work so if you don’t mind inaccurate non adjustable guide lines for backing up it would be a good purchase. ... show more

    • Works well, provides wide field of view, parking guides are fixed & always on
I had previously wired in a backup camera that ended up being defective. As this used the same connectors, installation was very easy as I had already run the wiring so it only come on when in reverse. The thin black frame looks good & does not block any parts of my plate that would be an issue with law enforcement. This provides a good wide field of view. You can adjust the camera angle up & down & then set it in place (my previous one would move on it's own). I have this angled so it just barely shows my bumper on an 04 GMC Yukon (I have an aftermarket stereo that this is connected to the Video IN port). I can also see my hitch when in place so I could use this as a guide for that. The LED's work ok at night by providing visible light, not IR as some do. Not as much light as the reverse lights, but good enough for what is right behind you. The built in green/yellow/red guides work well when backing. As this is not integrated as an OEM one would be, the guides won't turn with your steering wheel. ... show more

I'm kind of angry with myself, actually: I was trying to get one with better quality, than the last that I'd bought. I was looking for a better back-up camera to replace the one that had failed after just a year. Worse, while the picture was crisp and clear at purchase, the lens isn't UV resistant so it gets permanently cloudy over time. Not only that, but the lens is neither hydrophobic - meaning when in dew or rainy weather, you also can't see, because water sticks to it, rather than shed.     • Decent for the price, but has some room for improvement.
Overall, this is a decent camera, however, the installation instructions and wiring diagram that came with the product did not match what was in the box. It wasn't too far off, but slowed the install process. Also, the camera lens should be hydrophobic and it's not. If it's raining in any capacity, a large water drop tends to stay on it blurring and distorting the image significantly. My older crummier backup cam didn't have this issue. Lastly, while the infrared lighting for the backup camera is plenty bright where I can see clearly even in pitch black overcast conditions in the countryside, if there's even the slightest coating of dust on the lens, it's so brightly illuminated that it washes out the entire image making visibility near zero. This unit would benefit from a small lens hood so the infrared light doesn't directly hit the lens. This same unit with correct installation instructions, a hydrophobic lens, and a lens hood, even at a higher price, would absolutely be a 5-star product. Until then, it's decent if you need something on the cheap, but not nearly good enough if you are on the road more than a few hours a week. ... show more
