This is the first composter we have owned. My wife does some gardening so she was happy to take the remains to use in the garden. I was happy for a different reason – space reduction. As a large family our garbage cans are always overflowing come trash pickup day, and I was hoping that this composter would reduce the amount of garbage headed for the can. Well – it does. It’s not drastic, but your mileage will vary based on how much fruits/veggies/produce you use. I’d say I reduced my trash by one full bag. That’s decent. This composter advertises that it reduces what you put in it by 90%. I’d agree with that. It is also really easy to clean either by washing some parts or using the self-clean button. You can add fragrance as well if you are concerned about the smell. The directions say to use lemon, but I’ve found I can use whatever I want. There is no assembly required and is packed well. The machine itself is fairly heavy. The box says it is 28.5 pounds, so maybe a little heavier than a Kitchen Aid mixer. Definitely heavier than our air fryer and crock pots. I expected it to be noisy but it’s not. It’s about the same as our fridge and definitely less than the dishwasher. All in all, this is a good product. It’s nicely made, the instruction manual is written well (in English with at least one proper grammar check!), and it’s a welcome addition to our kitchen. ... show more

I almost didn't buy this composter because of the negative reviews, which I always read first. Plus, I always look for a review that explains why people may have given it a negative review. Such as ... it is gummy at the bottom. If it is gummy at the bottom after a cycle, you either put something in there you shouldn't have, or you filled it too full. If you are unsure what to compost, and you have never had a compost outdoors, you may want to read up on it. I have composted outside for the last 5 years, and am finally tired of all the bugs it attracts. So, I know ... no meat, no oil, no citrus. But, since this was a new toy, I did decide to try old party burritos. It gummed it up. So much that the emergency system stopped the unit, and it started dinging. I thought I had broken it for sure, but took it apart, threw the mess in the yard (which my dog later ate), and cleaned it up. There was a little rubber piece partially torn from under it, so I went ahead and broke it off, thinking it would not work again. It does. Another stupid thing I did was throw a baggy full of old cucumbers in my container for composting while cleaning out the refrigerator, and then forgot to take the cucumbers out of the baggy because of the stuff on top. Another gummy mess, another take apart and cleaning, but this time I threw it where the dog wouldn't eat it. This is a very hardy machine. Someone asked it if leaked water, and I can't imagine how, unless you crack the heavy metal bucket or fill it full of water. I've been running this at least once per day since it arrived, sometimes twice . I've had it a few weeks and it continues to create a tiny mass of dry dirt 6 hours or fewer after I load it full with kitchen scraps. It does what it claims to do so far! Don't put the dirt directly on house plants. I did once and in a day or two the room smelled like beer. It needs to process in the yard - get some rain, mingle with yard dirt....not sure what it needs to overcome the fermented smell. I accused my 14year old son of drinking in the room. Poor dear. It doesn't stink in the bucket- when it composts it smells a little like roasted coffee or something, nothing overpowering. It's after it gets dampened once you've emptied it somewhere that you might smell a fermented odor. I'm pretty pleased with it. Update: April 19th - About 2 weeks ago this machine started having trouble fully composting. It would dry everything out and shrink it all down like always, but the composted materials would get stuck to the moving parts at the bottom of the bucket. It took a bit of trouble to clean when it used to practically clean itself. Every day it gets worse. The last few times I used it, the machine struggled to keep the compost moving and it all got glommed into a dense dry brick. It took forever to get it out. I had to add warm water and let it soak for hours before I could get the compost free so the blade arms would move again. It doesn't do what it's made to do anymore. The scraps I use haven't changed. I put the same things in every day: banana peels, orange peels, melon rind, juicing pulp, etc... I'm very dissapointed because it worked great for a couple of months and it seems to have lost its ability. ... show more

what went in and what came out. processed egg shells, coffee grounds (with filters) , k-cups, compostable plastics and all my veggie cuttings. robust construction, easy to clean and pretty quiet. 4 hour processing time. no complaints so far. excellent warranty.
