I received this item in a timely manner. The product did not come with directions, but they did contain a flier with a QR code (and a link if you're a dinosaur on the inside like me) to either an online step by step assembly program or a pdf version. I couldn't get the online program to run (because i'm a dinosaur on the inside) so I used the PDF version. The PDF version has several formatting issues, and there was a crucial mistake that was not present in the online version that I got to work after I was stumped. The bar that functions as a fulcrum for the rotation needs to go in BEFORE the legs are attached to the barrel, but the PDF directions said to do it after and I had a helluva time trying to work the rod through the hole (Husband said if it doesn't go in easily, you're doing it wrong, and we had a laugh at the innuendo) Once assembled, I set it up in a corner of my yard. I'm looking forward to seeing how it works over the summer since we don't get a ton of sun in Feb/March. However, with the black plastic, the barrel will heat up to ~90 F when in the sun. The barrel is easy to turn and I can't smell the compost until I open it, which makes my nearby neighbors happy so they won't complain to the HOA. Other reviews say that it's not very sturdy and they've added extra measures to make sure the barrel stays together, but I disagree. I think the barrel is very sturdy and will withstand an almost-full load of compost. The door, however, is a bit weird to maneuver. It slides open, but there is nothing stopping the door from sliding right out of the tracks. This means if I open it an inch too much, the door falls off. It's easily reinserted into the track, but its a minor inconvenience. The barrel CAN be difficult to rotate IF it's more than halfway full, but it's not so bad that I would need to find a stronger person to rotate the barrel for me. Furthermore, since you're not supposed to overfill the barrel (leave some room so the compost can actually be churned during rotation) the difficulty is minimal. I'm looking forward to seeing how this works over the summer and I might update my review if anything happens worth noting. ... show more

Assembly was a pain, but worth it. I live in a household of 4 adults. This product currently holds about 5 months worth of our kitchen compost (plus added brown material like shredded egg cartons) and we still haven’t filled up the one drum we started on because of how quickly the material breaks down and composts. The drum is not water tight, but I think that’s on purpose so that it can drain excess liquid and receive oxygen. My family really dislikes the lack of a crank. Turning the compost by touching the drum is kind of gross because of what drips out of the bottom and dries on the exterior. I don’t mind it though. Hand soap was invented for a reason. Our tumbler does not have any odor. I think it’s because we’re really good about rotating it a few days a week. If you have a huge yard and you want to compost a huge quantity of grass clippings and leaves, you might want to compost the traditional way. I recommend this product for kitchen scraps and small amounts of yard waste. But hey, these tumblers are pretty big. Material processes so quick in a tumbler that maybe you could compost a ton of yard waste in a few batches over time. Tips: Bugs in compost are normal, but if you notice too many bugs in your tumbler, add more brown material to dry up the environment and make it less friendly of a breeding ground. Remember to cut or rip your waste into leaf-sized pieces for faster composting results. Huge chunks break down slowly because they have less surface area for the good bacteria to eat and process. ... show more

Assembly was step by step and accurate. Quality is medium grade plastic. Sturdy enough. I dont like the bar running through the middle of the drum-makes scooping out difficult. I do not like the little green snapnin pieces-they fall out-ALL THE TIME. I do not like the slide door-it falls off, would prefer something hinged. It works for small time gardening. Im at the medium going large stage. This will suffice for very small jobs. ... show more
