  • Not Difficult to Assemble, but Requires Hand Strength
Size: 18.5 gallons x 2
This truly was not difficult to assemble, but it does require good hand strength. If you go online and follow the step by step picture guide it is very easy to follow and get the assembly done in a reasonable amount of time. Make sure the small brackets that you hold the pieces of the barrels together with are in as far as they can go or your barrel pieces will not stay together. I laid them flat on the floor to put together, which made it a bit easier. Putting the small brackets in is the hardest part and it is harder if you don't have much hand strength. I recommend placing something solid under the area you will have to push on (this support helps the brackets go in easier). Then I pulled them up on their side very slowly to attach the first side of the barrel. After that, the rest is easier. ***NOTE: Please make sure that when doing anything with the 2 panels that have the yellow & green doors on them that you follow the instructions EXACTLY as far as what directions they need to go in. If you don't the composter will not be able to function at all. This is a great composter so far. It was very light to move to get it outside where we wanted it; I did it alone, even going down a few steps. So far it seems to be really solid and I am hoping it will hold up for a number of years. The venting holes are small enough so that it should really focus the heat good and cause the composting to work fairly quickly. The really small holes also prevent pests from getting into the compost barrels, which is very good. Do expect such things as flies and maggots to be present because that is natural with decomposing food scraps. ****I really feel this is a great investment for multiple reasons, 1) Reducing garbage 2) Gaining Organic fertilizer 3) Reducing what goes to garbage dumps 4) Increasing recycle material that is actually recycled ... show more

  • CAUTION: Challenging to assemble (I snapped the side connections!) - Updated 6/2021
Size: 18.5 gallons
[INITIAL 2020 REVIEW] As a heads up, the product does not come with paper assembly instructions, so you will need to go online to get them. While I like the idea of cutting down on paper, I always find omitting the instructions in particular to be a real nuisance and makes a product immediately less consumer-friendly. The main issue, however, is that getting the side walls of the product to properly snap together is a challenge. I couldn't seem to get things properly aligned and, when the directions online said to use a little force, the only thing I accomplished was buckling and snapping some of the side connections (note: I have minimal upper arm strength, and can say honestly that I was not exerting much actual force so this was surprising to me.) Because the product is now slightly broken, I'm going to need to find my own way to fit it together and mend any unintended gaps so that it can be (hopefully) functional. This is likely going to impact it's long-term stability and effectiveness, so I can't rate how the product actually works when assembled successfully. Overall, this was supposed to be my first foray into composting, so I'm a bit disappointed that I'm off to such a bad start. I think the product design could be tweaked a little to make assembly easier. It looks like it should be straightforward to put together, but even the slightest misalignment appears very difficult to correct and throws the whole thing off. If it had been able to assemble smoothly, I would otherwise have been very happy with the size and overall design of the product. [1 YEAR UPDATE - 2021] I refused to give up on this little composter. After a few weeks of huffing at the half-finished assembly every time I walked by it and occasionally attempting to wrangle all the connections together, I was finally able to fully assemble it. The side connection area I accidentally snapped in my initial assembly attempt didn't appear too noticeable in the end, either. Since assembling it, I have been using it for a full year and it's still holding steady. Yes, it was a headache and a half to put together - and I still think that's worth considering before you buy it - but in my case, it turned out to be worth it. I've found it's really easy to use and it does its job quite well. It doesn't take up a lot of space in the yard and is very discrete (it does fill up quick though! I find myself wishing I had bought the double composter option so I could start a second batch.) I would tentatively recommend this product for those who have the dexterity and patience for the initial assembly - or those who know someone else who can be tasked with assembling it for them! With this in mind, I've revised my rating from "1 star" to "4 stars." Happy composting! ... show more

  • Great for small amounts of scraps.
Size: 18.5 gallons
This item was exactly as described. It was super easy to put together and is working just great. I was surprised at how much compost I was generating and regret not buying the double. It is slim and doesnt take up much room. No odors and no bugs. Very happy with this product.

  • Clear assembly instructions
Size: 18.5 gallons x 2
I just finished assembly and will now transfer material from my old composter. Assembly required a little strength (I’m 74) but the instructions were very clear. It seems plenty sturdy and everything works. Ready to start ‘cooking’.

  • Door panels don’t align.
Size: 18.5 gallons x 2
The assembly started out pretty easy until I got to the doors. The connections didn’t align on either one making the rest of the assembly more challenging because the side panels have to snap together. One door panel broke in my attempts to make the puzzle pieces fit. And once it’s snapped together, don’t even try to disassemble or more broken plastic can be expected. Disappointed. ... show more
