This is a great value if you're looking for PROJECT to work on. As it comes out of the box this bass is bad. Very bad. Every fret on the top side threatened to slash me open, the strings were bad, all the pickups were misaligned, the tuning machines are all sorts of lose and the audio jack was very loose as well. Thanks to many other reviewers here I kind of knew that going in, though, and at ~$150 on Prime Day I figured it would be a project. I bought a fret file in anticipation of getting this. You may also want to get a fret/string/pickup height guide as well. If you want something cheap to teach you how to properly set up a guitar, though, this thing plays AWESOME once it's all said and done. I put 2-3 hours of work and care into it and it feels like a much more expensive guitar than what I paid for it. A true through neck, 5 string bass without an absolutely huge radius and some beautiful wood. Awesome if you know what you're getting into. ... show more

Pros - it is a true neck-through bass, no painted stripes. Sounds awesome through my Fender Rumble. Weight is good, not too heavy. As far as action, just the usual setup for string height and intonation. Cons - Packaging is substandard. Accessories were just dropped in the box loose. Bass was shipped in gig bag, protecting it, but only had one piece of styrofoam to support the neck. Finish on the body and neck is almost non-existent, feels like raw unfinished wood. A light steel wool sand and at least a satin poly finish is in order. Overall, is a keeper. Could be better. 5 stars for sound 3 for finish and packaging. Update: Finish is just a basic flat poly. Easily upgraded if needed. Overall, upgraded the rating to 4. ... show more

Bought because it was a 5 string through the body neck and large type pick ups, I bought a nicer TTBN and converted to heaver strings and through through the body stinging. It took some skill and the body had to be finished and set up. It is the the best bass I have, I was going to do the same but the battery compartment was in the way. It came in its usual minimal shipping box with stuff strewn inside and one of the pickups had fallen through in shipping, If it wasn't for the battery in a bad place, I would of kept it but returned it and later regretted it because I found a way to mod it. These Vietnam basses are are copy's of hi-end basses with the some parts being cheap but for $200, it's worth upgrading into a custom bass ... show more

I am impressed with this bass! In spite of the title saying 4 - it is a 5 string bass, which is what I wanted. The body is Elm - nice and rare. The whole package is very cool - got a Bullfighter tuner (doesn't work so well, but whatever), 2 guitar cords, nice guitar strap, gig bag, and a tin of guitar picks. Nice little extra package. Love the laminate construction and neck through design! The truss window is also nice, so you don't have to take the screws out to make adjustments to the neck tension. 5 knobs - plenty to play with. The active electronic system has high output. The bass plays well, and isn't too noisy or buzzy. Pure bang for the buck! Well done and not low quality, like one might expect from such a low price. Love the Alembic looking inlays. To get all these features I desired - neck through, 5 string, active electronics - for such a low price, is very pleasing. ... show more

The QC was just AWFUL on this one! I understand that, paying so little for a bass, you're going to have to do some work, but this was just BAD! I originally ordered two of the other Bullfighter bass (the dark finish, bolt-on neck), but both of those had issues (I just wrote a review on that one). I decided to give Bullfighter a third chance with this other model but they blew it :( This one was even worse than the previous two!! The pickups were jammed into the body so that you couldn't even adjust the heights, and the fret ends were so sharp I almost cut my hand! Unfortunately, I'm afraid to order a fourth bass from Bullfighter because Amazon isn't too keen on accepting so many big returns, but hopefully Bullfighter will up its QC game in the future for the sake of everybody. ... show more
