Initially I was very skeptical about gas log sets. There is so much controversy about vented vs. vent free vs. gas inserts and which is better, safer, warmer. However, after months of research in retail stores, calling local fire place installers, and online window shopping and reading tons of reviews. I have settled on the Duluth Forge DLS-24R-1 and I must say up until the point where the plumber completed the full install and ignited the fire, I had doubts flowing through my mind on what a mistake I thought I had made. When the fire place was complete and I had the remote in my hand and was able to turn on and off, adjust the temperature and feel the warmth of my new unit; it was then I realized WOW. This fire place choice was worth it! To sum it up, the Remote is easy to use - worth having a unit with this feature. I was easy to install, with a licensed professional of course, and the value with the money spent on the install and buying the unit, unsurpassed. For now I'll give it 2 thumbs up. When I received the unit, the largest (and main) log was broken. I managed to get it set up anyway with the broken log. I installed per the directions and it seemed to work fine. I was pleased with the appearance of the set. Then I noticed that the fire would go out on a regular basis and I would have to re-light the pilot. It defeats the purpose of having a remote start if the pilot is off. I contacted the seller with no response. I will be sending them back to Amazon for a refund. ... show more

I left a scathing review earlier (that means not nice) because my remote temp reading was off 5° and customer service would not respond. Two weeks after the review I got an email telling me to remove and replace the batteries. I did. Nada. Still off. Eureka, today I received a replacement, sans batteries. I am normally not want to leave reviews but in this case I decided to. These logs are great. I've had them for the past 3 months.. Very heavy good quality and puts out a lot of heat! You may notice a very faint trace of gas smell after the short burn-off period. But it does not concern or bother me. Much better than my last set at half the coast. Highly recommended! ... show more

The price,appearance and features lead me to this purchase. I installed this myself being a diesel mechanic I did not have to pay a plumber. The install was relatively easy except the instruction were vague at times. It did not explain about using specific TEFLON tape for the gas line connection. The install went very well until the logs needed to be arranged. The logs should have had numbers or letters on them to follow a diagram. This took some time. In the end the install was a success. All functions operated well. The only negative is the appearance of the flame is not natural looking and the BTU rating is nowhere near what it is rated for. I recently purchased a ventless gas log unit and it has been a nightmare. Upon receiving the unit, my HVAC contractor installed the logs but could not get gas to process through the unit. Upon calling tech support, I was advised to disconnect the unit and return it for repairs. I did this. Shortly thereafter, I received the repaired logs. My contractor returned and installed the unit. Upon turning the logs on, both carbon monoxide detectors in my house began blasting and an odor was overwhelming within my home. I called the company and was advised to relocate any carbon monoxide detector a minimum of 10' from the logs and to open all doors and windows so that the odor of paint burning off the logs could escape. After 2 hours of following these instructions, I ceased this activity as 1st and 2nd floor carbon monoxide detectors were blasting and the odor inside was over whelming with windows and doors opened. I called tech support and shared my experience and related that I feared the ventless feature of the logs did not work, and safety was a major concern. They instructed me to return the logs again for repair. I shared that removing the logs and reinstalling them after some form of repair would cost an additional $300. and asked if the company would cover these expenses in lieu of the fact I had already incurred these expenses one time for repair to the valve. I was told the company would not cover any costs. I asked for a refund. The company agreed to a refund but shortly notified me of no refund. Thus, I have ventless logs that activate both carbon monoxide detectors which are indicative of a safety hazard. I regret my purchase and feel there are major flaws posing safety concerns. ... show more

The logs stunk horribly and I traded emails with the Supplier but they would never call me. Their customer support only uses email and they kept saying they would "forward this to their team" but nothing ever happened. I understand there is a seasoning or burning off the new for a product, but I was getting gas smells at ignition and while the pilot was running. I turned the gas line off to see if it was leaking and it was not and I had it in place for 16 or more years. It was the unit. After talking to a guy that installs gas logs he said the cheaper models always put off an odor and so a good quality unit has to be purchased in order for this to be avoided. The only thing that bailed me out was the new home owner was going to remove them and put in a bathroom in the area under the stair, because this company drug the 30 days out so I could not return then, but Amazon did step up and say they would keep the return option open until it was resolved. Get a local company to install and supply a unit so there is only one person to go back to for the responsibility. ... show more
